    I did countryside management qualifications at college and one of the tutor's gave us the best definition for a "weed" I've ever heard: anything growing where you don't want it to be.
    Also, please never try to roll a tree that hasn't been chopped down yet, you only roll trees that have fallen and are hanging up in another tree and you use the rolling effect to make it roll away from the tree it's stuck in. The best way I've found to fell a tree that's leaning 1. Cut the gob (mouth, wedge shaped hole, etc,) aiming in the direction you want it to fall. 2. Slowly cut your back cut making sure that you leave a lot more hinge material on the opposite side to the way it is leaning so that the extra material will stop the tree falling sideways. 3. Pray! Better yet, put a rope in the tree to pull it where you want it to go or away from where you don't want it to go, then follow steps 1 to 3 as before.
    Also, check out #Buckin' Billy Ray Smith, he has some amazing information on felling leaning trees that I wish they had taught me when I did my countryside management courses. Keep up the great work, guy's 👍👍👍👍

    • @Woodbrew
      @Woodbrew  Год назад

      Roll may not be the best term, but you can make them hold on the hinge wood on one side longer and twist before breaking off. It doesn't move them super far, but it can help the canopy from hanging up in the other tree. Based on your comment I think we are saying similar things just in a different way.

    Congrats on the new Sawmill! I have had the same model for about a year now and it is still one of my favorite purchases. One neat trick you can do is take a normal 5 gallon bucket and hang it on the bottom hinge, on the shoot side of the mill, using the bucket handle. Its the perfect size to catch all of the saw dust so you don’t have to shovel anything later.

    Love the enthusiasm but you need to watch "Out Of The Woods" channel for the best milling info. What you have there appears to be is plain/flat sawn timber (cathedral pattern). The better to go for is rift sawn (best for general furniture pieces), and then for quarter sawn (more structurally sound and is ideally suited for chair and table legs etc.), but not all logs have good quarter sawn properties.

    • @Woodbrew
      @Woodbrew  Год назад +1

      Yes that is a good source of information. We are aware of grain orientation from woodworking and understand the differences between them. This was merely the first cut on the sawmill.

In this video after you cleared you the spot under the trees you said you had a big mud pit. On other videos I've seen they used wood chips to fill in mud. I haven't seen a wood chipper in your tools. I was wondering if you stacked up the tree tops and brush and you used the Lawn Shark on it would that work for making chips?

    Not that I'm a tree trimmer by trade, but in hairy areas, we've always used wedges as a "safety" when cutting trees to kind of help us push the trees away from obstacles. Doesn't sound like it was a big issue in your instance, but thought I would add in my .02. Thanks for sharing!

    • @Woodbrew
      @Woodbrew  Год назад +2

      Absolutely, wedges are fantastic. I thought I could be clever and get away with it, but nope. I knew its was a zero risk situation to try a skill of rolling the tree off, but didn't go as planned.

    I love ECHO chainsaws! Magnesium baby and half the price of Stihl. Why not get another container and put the mill in-between and then put a pitched roof over. Logs on the forest side, cut lumber in one container and heavy equipment in the other container. A container would make a good natural kiln.
