Thanks to everyone making it possible to see such a fun movie. ❤😊
Bonita Granville will be beautiful and talented forever...thanks to the movies!
I love the women's fashion in this movie. So classy!
I've always been a fan of clothes from the 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's.
Rebekah Joy Hawthorne
Yes, me too ! Even 60s for me 😀
Rebekah Joy Hawthorne I've always loved 60s, 70s and 80s fashion. Very cool❤
@Chris Perkinsnj M
Me too! Half the fun of the old classic films on RUclips are the fabulous fashions!
And the autos
My grandparents used to send me these books and Trixie Beldon for Christmas. I loved them!
These old Hollywood studios had so many great actors and writers under contract, This was most likely churned out for a Saturday matinee audience, yet it's so well done and entertaining.
Touching portrayal of Nancy's loving father.
Oh, I remember watching this movie when I was a teenager. Wonderful ☺️😊 so much fun...
entertaining and fun. I read all the early Nancy Drew books from the early series when I was a kid.
Me too. Always hated to come to the end. Waiting for next publication so hard.
Me too. 1st both are really enjoyed reading. Graduated to bigger mysteries. Now my husband hates me. I guess tell him who did it by reading only a quarter of the of it.😅🤣😂.
Mee took! Luv Nancy Drew
What this film omits from its cast are the book series' Nancy Drew constant "chums," "boyish George" and "plump Bertha."
you are lucky. i noticed a sr nun from my church has two three piles of ten volumes each two different authors..... so harekrishna kosher they are... at 69 yrs old this is my first nancy d. so i also am lucky.
i was doin' sherlocks at 8 - 9...
Such a good movie for relieving stress from virus news.
The kids were adorable.
🤪
One year later and it’s still virus time and perfect to watch Nancy Drew. Just like you I love the kids, they are so funny and talented. Cheers from Scandinavia.
The "Little" girl Mary Lee was only a year younger than "Nancy Drew" Bonita Granville
@@georgemoore7186 was she really singin'‽
Such a lovely comedy film i have ever come across in english. Nancy's character and the actress acting is superb. It's energetic. I loved the father and daughter's relationship and kids action
Don't forget, Bonita Grandville is also the producer of Lassie
Granville.
Kathleen Eddy Actually, it was her husband, Jack Wrather who produced the 1954 Lassie series, not Bonita.
@@janethartwig774 They worked together...
Lassie was cross gender.
I think Wrather bought the rights after the first few seasons (3, maybe?) I know it was when Jeff Miller was Lassie’s owner and just before Timmy became a character on the series. After they acquired the series Bonita eventually became co-producer on the episodes. She also did the narration on some of the multi-episode storylines and appeared in a few episodes.
Frankie Thomas was my husband's cousin - sweet, wonderful man - a true gentleman. I enjoy these movies because of him
Is that true they were planing on doing 5th movie in series? :)
Always nice to hear that a Cleb is (was)nice.
He was great in Boys' Town too.
Also in Tim Tyler’s Luck.
Playing the lead in Tom Corbett Space Cadet, Frankie Thomas was the inspiration for Captain Kirk and every space-faring, devil-may-care adventurer we've come to expect in television and film. With his looks, talent and charm, he could (should) have gone on to even greater success in film. I do wish there were more stories and books written on this man and his family. So many stories lost.
I ♥️ the original Nancy Drew!
What a gem!!!
I loved my childhood Nancy Drew hardcover book collection I wish I still had it!
I still have mine, plus a few really OLD volumes (circa 1930s) that I picked up at yard sales and thrift stores.
I've got a really good collection all from thrift stores over the years!
I've always been intrigued by Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books because they occupy almost the whole upper shelf of the Fiction section 😁 but I didn't have an ample time and now enjoying it 💜
Its a shame the other Nancy Drew movies have been deleted from RUclips they were just as good as this one and I enjoyed watching them again and again. Brings us all back to the simpler, not so overwhelming life of yesteryear!
I think this one slipped into Public Domain status so it’s available for everyone. The other three are still owned by Warner Brothers.
I watch these and then look up information on the actors. So..the little boy was the original voice of Pinocchio! How interesting!
Now that you've said that, I can't unhear it. Of course he behaved more like Lampwick.
Cool!!
16:02-16:11 Pinnochio is imitating Donald Duck
Wow really? I never knew that!
I actually laughed out loud at his Donald Duck impression!
How I remember reading all her adventures in my teens, watched the tv series but it was during pamela sue martin era.. love Hardy boys too. Made believe I was part of the adventure...
I still some of her books stashed away. We had some in the junior high school library too.
I liked her books and also the Hardy Boys .
SOOOOO GREAT! LOVE this movie- My husband and I watch hit all the time on dvd! The young girl (Mary) singing is SO talented!!!!! Kim
Love these movies. This one makes two. A read all the Hardy Boys books as a kid and then read all my sister's Nancy Drew books. That was something a guy never told his buddies :~)
I did the same thing, and you are right I didn't tell my friends.
Tom Swift, The Hardy Boys and the lesser known Happy Holisters. I grew up in a logging town no way i could check out or buy a Nancy Drew lol Everyone knew everyone.
LOL!!! I did the exact same thing ! Read every Hardy Boys book I could get my hands on, but, then would go to the neighborhood public library and check out a different Nancy Drew book every week, keeping THAT hidden amongst my other books. LOL!!
I read a lot of boys books also..
@@zeffe0528 If, you read the Nancy Drew books how could you not read the Hardy boys, also?! I read anything that I could lay my hands on. Loved mysteries. etc..
Still do, today..in my seventies!
Bonita Granville (February 2, 1923 - October 11, 1988) was an American film actress and television producer. She died on October 11, 1988 of lung cancer in Santa Monica, California, at the age of 65. She was buried at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City, California.
So sorry to hear she died of lung cancer😥😥😥😥😥 Too many actors died from lung cancer because the tobacco companies were more interested in making money than actually letting people know how dangerous smoking and second hand smoke was to a person's health and life!!
@@pinkrose5796 Yea, pretty much so.
Thank you so much for uploading this video. It is helping me get through the pandemic!
What a great film and just the right length for something so light. I was enjoying watching how many laws/rules Nancy Drew broke to solve this case.
She was a teenager! What did ''laws/rules'' have to do with anything?!
This isn't Nancy Drew though; Nancy in the original books was way too smooth to run afoul of the law. She was too mentally agile and quick to get into many jams and the only risks she ran were with the bad guys. She was fearless but not careless.
In response to Terence Ritche of a year ago - (not that anyone ever looks back) - no, they certainly are not garland and rooney. Nor were they expected to be or wanted to be. They are Granville and Thomas and they're a cue couple and she's a good little actress: Children's Hour (These Three), Now, Voyager, Escape.
Oh I love this movie. What a shame journalism has lost it's integrity and independence as the years have progressed. But, ahhhh, never let truth get in the way of a good story, lol.
Hello Elizabeth, How are you doing?
Actually Elizebeth, I'm not so sure. Remember that sensational journalism helped spark the Spanish-American War clear back in 1898. Dishonest press has been a problem for a LONG time, though obviously with worse and better periods.
"Ah, don't be an infant!" I love this film, it has energy to burn.
Thank you for taking the time to make these movies available for us to see.
Im the olny 13 year old who still loves these movies
I LOVE THESE OLD MOVIES JUST GREAT AND CLEAN
The 1930s Nancy Drew was the best!! Thanks!!
Astonishing clever film.
Hello Lisa, How are you doing?
This was a blast.. Thank you.
Cant forget The Famous Five by enid blyton too.. our childhood were filled with our own wildest imiginations... how today's youngsters certainly miss those part of life
Zahim Islam I think many childhoods today (not all), but many ARE lacking the depth and richness in fun adventure.
Imaginations!
It all started in 1930 with The Secret of the Old Clock. Harriet Adams, daughter of the legendary and prolific magic-maker Edward Stratemeyer, using the nom de plume of Carolyn Keene, wrote 46 of the Nancy Drew novels as of '78. Stratemeyer was the genius behind the magic mill that was called the Stratemeyer Syndicate, formed in 1927, which published a seemingly endless number of novel series for young people. He used 46 noms de plumes and wrote 250 novels and had a hand in 700 others. He was called 'the father of the 50-centers". In '78 they were at 1.50$, now they are more like 20$. He wrote 3 Nancy Drew novels prior to his decease in 1930, when Mrs. Adams took over. In the '60s she rewrote several of them to modernize them, eliminating, among other things, the old Afro-American dialect. The Dana Girls (34 novels from '34-'79) was meant as a counterpart to the Hardy Boys, but Nancy Drew (101 novels from '30-'91) was more popular. Grosset & Dunlap did most the publishing, and my books from the '60s, in the Hardy Boys, Ken Holt, Rick Brant, etc. series, were more modern verions, so later authors and G & D deserve a lot of the credit for the magic, too.
Bonita Granville, nicknamed Bunny, started in films as a teen playing brats, which she liked to do. ''It started my career,'' she told David Zinman, author of the excellent Saturday Afternoon at the Bijou (1978), in a telephone interview. ''And I enjoyed doing roles as heavies. It was always easier for me than just playing myself.'' One would think it would be the inverse! But she soon grew tired of it, and then Warner Brs. and Nancy Drew came along. There were 4 movies, all in '38 and '39: Nancy Drew, Detective; Nancy Drew, Reporter; Nancy Drew, Trouble Shooter; and Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase. She was also a producer for the Lassy TV series and Franky Thomas was also known for Tom Corbett, Space Cadet. Bonita was only 5' 2'' or 5', depending on the source, weighing in at only 105 lbs. Oddly, her female sidekick in the novels was a tomboy, being tall, athletic, and having the name of George.
Edit: At NancyDrewSleuth.com it says that in 1993 Mildred Benson (née Augustine) was officially and legally acknowledged by the owners of Nancy Drew as the author of books 1-7, 11-25, and 30.
Thththaaattt's all folks! 😁 Good One! Give us More please!!! Thank you 🙂

Can you upload them, please? I would love to see them all. Thanks so much
That was really good!!
They're fun films! Although, I always wonder why they wrote Nancy to be so high strung. She's quite the opposite in the books. And the Ted for Ned thing is just silly!
I agree that Bonita Granville's characterization is kind of hyper, but when I think of the books, Nancy Drew was rather a flat and boring character. The Hardy Boys in the books were kind of flat too, just the stereotypical, handsome, cool high school guys.

Great movie 🍿 I enjoyed this story with the kids doing a good deed 🙂
Clean, neat and lively
with good wholesome action!.
Love comedy. Enjoy reporting.
Love "Nancy Drew, Reporter" as played by Granville, Russian & Italian ancestry.
All for the American way,
hedwegg Awful brats, kids doing whatever they wanted, making life a misery for those around them. I wouldn't want my kids to think that was how they should behave. The "real" Nancy in the early books didn't act that way and neither did her friends. Hard to see how murders, pranks that cause a driver to not be able to see out, lying about a story, ordering more than they could pay for at a restaurant, etc are wholesome. I felt sorry for the girl who legitimately won the journalism prize and lost to Nancy's false news. I also didn't think the "real" Nancy would be so manipulative of men or then go all helpless and tell Ted to "do something." This isn't the strong, caring, independent-minded Nancy we knew. This is more like a screwball comedy than our "real" Nancy. Certainly a couple of juvenile delinquents are no replacement for Bess and George.
My favorite Nancy Drew movie. Love Bonita Granville; but I don't think that was her singing voice. Mary Lee was fabulous. These movies were "laugh-out-loud" funny.
thanks...fun way to spend an hour :-)
Hello Katherine, How are you doing?
thanks for uploading!
Bonita Granville had a small but amusing role in Now Voyager as Bette Davis' niece.
Mo Green "Amusing role" I thought she was a little witch.
Ernest Castro , what about in ' Escape ' with Norma Shearer !
@@ernestcastro6238 Yes. Very mean and cruel. But then she got apologetic, humble and friendly near the end. I like to think that she finally understood what her aunt had been through. Perhaps her intelligent and compassionate mother helped her to understand.
She was a sarcastic little brat!! I'm glad she got her comeuppance when Bette finally recovered.
45 some years ago, I was a die hard Nancy Drew reader. I wanted to be Nancy Drew when I grew up. Those books were a window on a time in the states which was golden. Nancy had money, a single Dad, a doting housekeeper. She had graduated high school, done a little college. She had done her duty: she and her two best friends, Beth and George, had hooked "nice" boys as potential husbands. Not quite engaged , but shyly committed. The boys ( around 20 yrs old) had to finish college and go to work, to achieve the right sort of financial status needed to properly look after a nice girl in classy surroundings
Nancy had beautiful clothes, a fancy, fast car. And ... TITIAN hair!!! She spent her days pursuing her own fun, or doing charity work. She took her sleuthing seriously. And what's SHOCKING, her FATHER took her hobby seriously!
Nancy Drew; forever young.

Hello Sandra, How are you doing?
The original 1930's novels are so much better than the 1960's rewrites.
I agree! The originals are much better reads. I hope they become available as ebooks someday.
Agreed! After finding they were rewritten with 5 fewer chapters, I bought a bunch of the originals and am rereading them. They're far superior!
I believe I actually read both the '30s *and* '60s versions of "The Secret of Shadow Ranch". They were completely different stories. Still fun to read, though!
The little boy is Dickie Jones, he was the voice of Disney's PINOCCHIO.

Great stuff.
I watched this the first time a couple years ago. Very enjoyable film. This time around I'm thinking - that coroners inquest hearing - that accused woman had no attorney and was not advised of her rights. She had a right to keep her mouth shut. To base this story on the assumption that she would have been charged with murder based only on circumstantial evidence following this hearing is stretching it.
Oh the memories! ❤😊
Nice and clean thanks
Magnificent!
Very entertaining. . . I read her books while in H.S. I guess I was intrigued with the suspense.
CELESTE, in the ATL 🌼
In its history, Nancy Drew has been portrayed by Bonita Granville, Tracy Ryan (1995 series), Pamela Sue Martin (Nancy Drew- Hardy Boys Mysteries) Maggie Lawson (Nancy Drew TV movie) and Emma Roberts (2007). I still prefer the books over any movie/TV show about our sleuth!
I actually liked Maggie in that role ... She didn't portray Nancy as how I imagined her but it was still believable.
Soon she'll be portrayed by Sophia Lillis.
And 2019 there was a new actress, Kennedy McMann. Has not seen the new series.
Love the new Nancy Drew series on the CW / hbomax !!!
I admit to being a Nancy Drew "purist" having grown up with the book series. I watch the movies and TV interpretations but it doesn't really satisfy. Bonita is cute and good actress, but just not Nancy to me. Plus they always seem to exclude her "chums"...Bess and George...And her boyfriend Ned. I also prefer the books and treasure my collection and the few very old volumes I picked up at yard sales and thrift stores.
Good clean fun!
I read every Nancy drew book ever wrote when I was a young girl. One summer I was really sick & in bed & I just read those books like crazy. Thank God for my gramma buying me those books. I wish I still had them. My mother threw them out. Bad move... they're probably worth money now as a set.
My mum bought me the entire series and I read them all! I actually went into investigations!

Oh what a wonderful movie, too bad they forgot how to make them now
Why did the teacher always look at me funny when I said I liked reading Nancy Drew circa 1976? 😇🙏👀📖
Same. Hardy Boys stories were dull, by comparison.

There will be no conviction without two eyewitnesses. Even a confession does not convict without a second witness. To do otherwise is to bring curses upon our land.
45:23 Regarding this scene and in another, I like how Ted is aware to of boys and men removing their hats indoors.
I always read Nancy Drew in her maroon roadster. In the books, Ted was Ned Nickerson.
I was a readaholic as a kid. I went threw the Happy Holisters first. Then the Hardy Boys. Tom Swift was next read all our library had by the fifth grade i could not find anything good left so went on to the classics like Treasure island, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Count of Monte Cristo and David Copperfield. We were poor so could only get 2 TV channels.
carl reed And how many channels did the rich kids get? :) And did their channels run all night while yours signed off by midnight? We were so poor that...our NBC peacock only had one feather. Our CBS eye had a patch over it. Our tv aerial only had one rabbit ear and even that ear drooped toward the floor. Our picture tube was so small we couldn't watch without a magnifying glass. Our reception was so bad we once put on coats to go to school in late May only to find out the weather report wasn't being broadcast in a blizzard.
