Years ago, a recently released inmate from the county jail stole an ambulance outside the ED of a major hospital. Since it had GPS they quickly figured out who it was, based on the direction of travel to another town. Bet that he had previously been charged with GTA. So he kinda had a welcome home party, but never made it into the home.
Someone in chat mentioned 50 years ago they would have set up a roadblock, and this chase would be over quickly! Too funny as that exact thing happened to me at 14 in 1974 while in Los Angeles! My friend took his aunt's car, and we went cruising. Two middle class white kids thinking we're cool. We get pulled over, and my friend freaks out asking me what to do. I told him we're either busted or we'll get a ticket, just be cool, it is what it is, our night is likely over! The officer gets up to his window, and he floors it! Not 5 blocks later we are surround by at least 10 cop cars coming at us from every street, alley, and through parking lots. He is going pretty fast, and while making a turn he slams into a cement bus bench. The officers are on us immediately guns drawn ordering us out of the car. That dude who wrote that was correct, what's going on anymore? Probably not enough officers to create roadblocks in the city😎✌🗽
Stolen cars, car chases that put the motoring public and pedestrians in danger, etc will continue until the consequences are severe enough to be a deterrent. Meanwhile, enjoy the show.

Unbelievable waste of tax payers money the moment the suspect was apprehended and cuffed the word should have gone out to other police suspect in custody return to patrol duties and stand around having a chit chat than can be done later back at the station. They are paid to serve in other words patrol work not bludge.

A fleeing felon couldn't pick a worse place to run into. There are security cameras all over an HD inside and out, and they no doubt have him on video running in and trying to change his appearance by ditching his jacket and backpack.
