“Soul Bassa Nova” holds a special place in the heart of Canadians. Not only because of the Mike Myers connection, but in the 70’s, it was the theme to a Canadian game show called, “Definition”. Then, in the late 80’s, “Soul Bassa Nova” was the main sample source for song by a Canadian rap group called Dream Warriors. “My Definition of a Boombastic Jazz Style” was a pretty big hit at the time! 😃🇨🇦🎶💖 This arrangement here is my favourite! 😁
Dream Warriors made some of the most phenomenal music of that era. Uplifting rap to traditional jazz?! Yes, please! Someone I knew played "Wash Your Face in My Sink" for her first dance at her wedding reception. Wasn't a hit in the US, but it should have been.
I remember that song well! It's what got me curious about the "Definition theme song". For me, a redux to watching W5, as a pre-teen, only to discover Supertramp's "Fool's Overture" a couple of years later. Sefinitely a cool way to expand the musical horizons, as a young boy! Great memories!
This gives my soul strength every time I hear it. Thankfully my phone heard me talking to friend about Austin Powers earlier today and “coincidentally” RUclips recommended this song to me.
Nah this is TSHSE. The heavy sax part in the middle betrays it all. Plus the squeaky chop sounds for when he's in the giant pool and introducing the names.
I love the violin flourish in the end. The 60th Anniversary will be next Summer and this is a great hit and even GREATER REMIX with George S. Clinton, Absolutely NAILED IT!!! Honorable Mention to Quincy MFlippin Jones! ❤
This is far from "a corruption." The bassline is punchier, Dr. Evil's theme is seamlessly worked in by the string section, and towards the end, the music builds and builds before culminating in an explosive and satisfying conclusion. You do realize that this arrangement is meant to fit the film's title sequence, right?
@@imfsresidentotaku9699 An explosive and satisfying conclusion for you maybe, for me it is hideous. As for the bassline, what is is the need for exaggerated bass?
@@onejagjeff Exaggerated bass in a theme song is like extra bacon on a burger. It's not necessary, strictly speaking, but why in God's name would you turn it down?

Spy Who Shagged Me has, hands down, one of the best opening credit sequences in a movie.
You put this over Goldmember? Cause that was pretty awesome too.
So very groovy. Everyone should wake up to this tune each morning.

The Quincy Jones (original) arrangement was so much better. This is such a corruption.
