Thanks for sharing your visit to Garnish Island....sharing the beauty of the place, tha spectacular plants...which i could only see through you videos.....thank you so much....stay safe & God Bless
The climbing roses on the wall absolutely stole my heart too. There is a big house on the island too so you wouldn't have to squat but unfortunately I didn't find it.
To my shame iv never visited Garnish Rachel, hope to rectify that soon. I also think the Lady of Douentza should have her own T.V programme on RTE. Thanks for the tour Rachel.
Your story at the beginning.. that is the Ireland I know and love. Can't wait to visit again and you've showcased somewhere else I can include on my list 😊 lovely vlog
Exquisite! That walled garden looks like a backdrop for a fairy tale book. I can only imagine how delicious it smelled on that island, all the fragrances commingling from bloom, foliage, and sea! Thank you for taking us with you to another exotic location. I have one question ... Was a residence ever built there, if for no other purpose then to house the gardeners?
Hi Laurie. There is actually a house but I didn't find my way to it unfortunately. The Italian terrace had a closed 'room' too which they call the casita and this is where guests would go after playing croquet on the lawn. I read that at one point 13 people lived on the island.
I visited Garnish in June. I think it is always worth a visit but a little later in the season the bedding plants in the main pool garden would have been there and added to the colour. I remember one visitor being slightly disappointed not to see all the colour she remembered from her childhood. So, if that's what you're after, go in July!

What a fantastic garden. Those climbing roses in the walled garden, my goodness. I could move there and become a squatter and be perfectly happy.

Amazing garden! The Tea trees are so beautiful. I always use tea tree oil, but I’ve never seen one of them.

Hi Rachel, nice video. I’ve never seen tree ferns, they were huge. Nice white wisteria and Japanese water iris.

@@GardeningatDouentza thank you for adding this! It sounds like such a heavenly little retreat!
What time of year did you go and what time of year would you most recommend?

@@GardeningatDouentza Thank you for the quick reply, much appreciated. I have some Ukrainian refugees staying with me and I want them to see Garinish.
