Ralfy just picked the Ladaig 10 as his whisky of the year for 2022 a few hours ago.. I really love this entire video...Having all those bottles and explaining your reasoning is outstanding... I have loved Clynelish 14 a good long while...I have an older expression with a different label and this newer version. I can get it for $45-49usd including tax...The best bargain on my shelf. I am going to grab a few more... Cheers!
Thanks Jeff! It’s reinforcing to see Ralfy choosing Ledaig 10 as well. I’m just glad mine was before his show. And yes C 14 @ under $50 is a no brainer. I did the same. Cheers🥃
Happy you put the Lagavulin Guinness in your line up. It seems like many out there aren’t a fan. For me, I find myself picking this out of my cabinet more than any scotch these days. Once the bottle opens up a bit it’s incredible. Nice line up you got this year. Cheers
Great choices. You beat Ralfy with that Ledaig 10. That's an incredible dram. I was lucky enough to get a bottle for $38 on clearance at ABC liquor in Florida. I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Ledaig 18. Cheers 🥃
That is a stellar lineup there. WOTY surprised me, but then I realized I had gotten a bottle of Clyn 14 over a year ago and never opened it. So your video inspired me to crack it tonight. I like it. I don’t love it. Yet. I have a feeling it’s gonna open up over the next few weeks and pours. Bold. You can taste the strength of its age, and 92 proof aint half bad. Plenty of bottles here I’ve yet to try. Can’t wait. Absolutely love Compass Box and Corry. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Wish I lived closer to help you with your open bottles problem lol cheers 🥃
Batch variations possible with Clynelish 14. Mine are older releases. If disappointed you can always teaspoon it with something else. Cheers🥃 and thanks for watching!
Clynelish is a beast. I hope the hype train doesn't catch on. Its readily available in my area and worth $70 all day. I have 2 black box Ledaig 10's. It's the one that started me in my peat journey! Bladnoch 10 was probably my favorite this year. Merry Christmas or, Kissmas, John!
Great pick on the bladnoch10… that’s what I consider a textbook lowland style whisky done really well… I get a lot of light grassy and chrysanthemum from it. It’s delicate nature makes it a safe bottle for large groups as well
My liquor store just got Ledaig back in stock after the holiday rush, I’m going to pick up a bottle this weekend, absolutely love it, I miss the black boxes, which I was still getting through the end of 2020, but it’s still amazing.
Im on team Glen Scotia this year... while everyone is singing praise on the Victoriana... its in fact the 15 year old that i find myself most enjoying this year. Merry Xmas :)
"we just don't have time." You're only constrained by the hard drive space on your recording device and computer. Long form content isn't bad, no matter what anyone says.
Thanks for that encouragement! Yes we do always have more time but I am very conscious of trying to stick to reasonable time restraints. With very few exceptions I tend to shy away from live tubers or tubers who run 3 hour shows and only focus on a couple drams. But believe me I can be long winded and get carried away so I try to be conscious of that with my content. Having said that… I will have a bit of long form very soon recapping the year and looking deeper into the future of whisky. Cheers🥃
£34 I paid for the ledaig 10 in the supermarket. For value for peated whiskies nothing matches it. It’s no surprise at that price the shelves have been cleared.
Of course the Brora is over priced but it is also very good. Brora 38. Imagine how many other drams you can buy with that money? Some pretty great ones. The variety trumps that one great bottle for me.
I tasted glasshouse in a fancy bar, it was surprising, but not very balanced imo, very estery (like vibrant-fruity) for a scotch, but in a very polarized way. A very unique dram. I didn't like it, but i was quality for sure
good content as always, how long do u finish a bottle?some bottles get better and better after opened, the others just gonna lose the flavors and hard to drink
Some bottles flatten after they get below half. I gas some and can also blend your own infinity bottle or “teaspoon “ a old flat bottle with cask strength of something similar. I probably consume about 10 bottles full a year. Cheers🥃
VERY solid picks there. I've always loved Clynelish 14 and Ledaig 10. To put things into perspective... when I was at Tobermory distillery I had several distillery exclusive Tobermorys and several 20-21yo distillery exclusive Ledaigs to choose from to buy. I tried all of them and what did I buy? Three bottles of the Ledaig 10yo. At the younger age it simply carries the peat better and the quality/price ratio can't be beat. I would've bought a bottle of Ledaig 18 too but they were out of stock :-) Hope you have a great Christmas John. Cheers!
That's good to know. I have the 6 yr Murray McDavid that has a nice PX finish and my local shop is getting a 23 and a 16 of some indie Ledaig, assuming that they're at or above 46% I'll happily buy the 16 and pass on the older one. It's true, the 10year old made me a Tobermory fanboy so I'd buy anything I see. Like the 21 Manzanilla. The 6year Ledaig is good but $20 more than the 10???????
Not to mention the ledaig 18 won the day in the advent calendar, for your palate this £76 widely available whisky beats stuff in some cases triple the price. Well done Ledaig.
@@jackthepickledhound sounds like you have a great store. Not familiar with the 6 yr But maybe it was matured in a very active cask and or higher abv? Cheers🥃
Great show! It saddens me greatly to see e150 on your table. My Ledaig is a bit to dark and without written confirmation...my 1996 is dark, my Tobermory 21 is dark as is the 12. I can't imagine if that was my job, to normalize the color of the vatting. Would make me cry. And I won't talk about Diageo. I tried to drink Clynelish along with your review and it just doesn't seem all that special to me. At $65-70 I could do Kilkerran or Bruichladdich Islay Barley. I almost wrote Glen Scotia 15. I guess you and I have opposite opinions here.
@@justwhisky Since, I can buy Clynelish for $45-49 depending on the store I go to...it is a much better dram for me... I love it. I think if it was $70, I would buy something else..
