so coming back to this now that Origins is out I went ahead and tried to race alongside in classic mode (yeah it's still retro engine but hey I turned off spindash and turned on speedcaps in Sonic 1 so I didn't have that massive advantage) and thanks to some major chokes in spring yard 3 and Sonic 2 endgame I was consistently one zone behind Cybershell and finished S3K right as he hit the end of the credits. sonic the hedgehog is very good
Cybershell is actually wild man. I played along while watching this and I only just barely lost to Mark (I was going to win and then I died on the last hit at the end of sonic 3 because the knockback knocked me off lmao), but I never even got close to catching up with Cybershell

@@shonenbois Please tell me how a game with sloppy as hell level design that had minimal changes between every past, present and both future iterations with a half baked time travel gimmick little to no people sing the praises of, and piss poor badnicks is "underrated". Not only are there less badnicks than usual, but half the time its not even like they're there to kill you. So when 85%~ of the game is just level design that doesnt flow well at all while you're occasionally punished by the game and forcefully sent into the future all whilst no enemies really try to kill you, I dont see how people like it at all.

The level design was amazing and I don’t know why you hate it. And I personally loved how after destroying the past robot Generators your rewarded with destroying all the robots which allows you to listen to the great soundtrack while looking around at the great level design of the future levels. I think you just didn’t like the exploration factor of the game and that’s fine, people just have their own tastes, but don’t knock on someone who likes the game dude

It doesn't matter in cd anyway when you can just get 50 rings and get to the end The level design is pretty rancid given like palm tree panic just had alot of springs sending you wherever they want or spikes in fuck all places Just like the pinball boss Just like metallic madness and some really small half pipes with a spike in the middle??? (Collision chaos?) Has 3 half pipes in a row for some reason and one stretch with just the floor carpeted with springs for some reason too. Its stupid Just like alot of the time it never flows well to have you time travel and instead they said fuck it and just put two springs next to each other for you to time travel that way, over fulfilling long stretches of land, or an assured time travel by going through a hidden path thats just hard to trvael through but have it just be that Badnicks are still a joke, and the minimal changes between time periods is still barely noticeable and rarely, if ever influential to the experience.

There's nothing wrong with Sonic 1 except your expectations of it. All of the things that people don't like in Sonic 1 were standard to virtually all platformers at the time, and aren't bad design choices for a platformer in general. They're just not in line with what Sonic gameplay ended up becoming.
