I can tell how far you've come on your journey - you have EMPTY DRAWERS! My husband also struggles with holding onto too much. He's not very messy, but he will fill every single drawer. It's only when drawers are overflowing that he knows he needs to deal with it. But you're actually able to have empty drawers which means you're paying attention to what you actually need versus what you'd keep if you have the space. Plus I very much admire your commitment to not simply being wasteful and putting everything in the bin to get rid of it.
That's such a good way to look at it! Thank you 😊 I hope your husband can declutter a few of those drawers! It's definitely harder not to throw things out due to the current situation but so worth it to sort them as best as I can 😀 thank you for the comment Beth!
When my beloved mum passed away I had only a week to sort her belongings out as I had to travel back home and I didn’t want to leave it for my dad to do. I got one of my brothers to help me. I never thought I would be able to do it as I was just so devastated I was very close to my mum, but it had to be done and although we both cried as we were doing it we actually were able to recall lovely memories, of when she wore certain clothes and things like that. We took her clothes to the charity shop and they were so appreciative and lovely to us it also made us feel better, my mum had always supported children’s charities all her life donating monthly to NSPCC so that’s where her items went. I felt bad thinking we had done it so quickly after her death but my dad was going to temporarily live with my brother as he couldn’t bear to live in the house without my mum so was going to sell up and move.
When my bunny passed it was extremely hard for me to go through his things. It took me well over a month to finally get rid of his litter box. I hope whatever you are going through you go through with time and patience 💕. There is not time limit. Be good to yourself.

@@HermioneChantal Absolutely!! I'm glad to know I'm not the one that's overwhelmed. Many things belonged to my mum and I'm putting those to the side for now as well...
My first home was fully furnished with all the belongings of my late great-grandparents. All sturdy and in mint condition but 35 years out of date and not my taste. I kept most of it for the 10+ years I lived there and took some when I moved to the next house. Giving it away to friends and charity was good feeling. I was taught to never waste things and it took me decades to learn it’s okay to say no when offered free stuff :))

To give yourself a boost (and it looked well earned to me because you did well) they say take a picture before you start on a space, whether that be a room, a drawer or a shelf etc., then take a picture once you have made progress - even if not fully completed the declutter of said space - and you will see the difference clearer. That may then help you see that you ARE making progress and not to be so hard on yourself. Collecting such an amount didn't happen overnight so it isn't likely to be decluttered overnight. You did good!
@@briannawilliams8779 start with the simple, for me it was the kitchen, I realized that there was only certain things I need to cook with, the rest I donated it to my daughter or a charity. Next was my clothes, then the linens , books, and so on. Good luck 🤞
Bless you sweetheart. Keep your chin up. Things will eventually get better. You are loved. Well done for the decluttering. I have a whole house to do but 5 of us live in it and it is a mammoth tasks but, am determined. x
Thank you so much for a such lovely comment ❤️🥰 things will get better, especially as 2020 is now in the past. Good luck with the decluttering, it sounds like a huge task but I’m sure you’ll get it done 💪
Thank you for this permission giving. I am not a minimalist, but, there is a learning curve to decluttering. Your space looks refreshing and the diys you share are wonderful. Love to your Nan from another. LOL 🎀
Love your home and all that you have done with it! To me decluttering is a very personal thing. I once had a sister tell me "I can come over and help you get rid of things". Uh no.... we each have to do what we feel is best and I like my bits! lol.... I like that you give yourself grace to tackle the harder parts, like photos. etc. When you are ready we will be here to help you through it! Also, I love that the box room is full... it's all going to the shops so that is awesome! xoxo
see I would have used the beautiful wooden chest of drawers and got rid of the Ikea thing....the wooden one has beautiful lines to it and such nice quality....and kind of matches the house a bit.....sorry but over here in Canada that would be sold at a high price because its "antique" -- well it is to us....LOL
With the photos (when you're ready), if they're old photos taken on film and you don't have a digital copy. A few years back I went on a binge and scanned every family photo I could get my hands on and it's been absolutely fantastic to have digital copies of all of them. My great Aunt's house burned down but we were able to salvage a whole box of photos and scanning them meant I could crop the burnt edges and clean them soot stains. I've been able sharpen and re-color faded photos, crop out my mother's much despised older cousin so she could have a nice pic of her much loved and lost too soon younger cousin, put my Grandad's christening photo in an antique frame so it looks like it was always in that frame. I've also been able to share these photos, that would have be stuck in a drawer, with friends and family across the world - they're actually getting shared with new generations, I was talking to my cousin's daughter about some of them and she knew every family photo I described to her because her Grandad (my Uncle) had shown her all of them. I've also been able to pass on to family and friends, a pile of physical photos so they're not cluttering up my drawers.
You should turn the box room into your dedicated craft space! Would love to see it also live vicariously through you for the dream to have a craft room. Well done so far Hermione! Every little bit counts is my motto and your videos encourage me to keep decluttering too
Great job ! I’m the type who is cyclic. I go thru gathering phases then massive decluttering. I enjoy both but do rapid massive decluttering. No holding back. I’m lucky that I find it easy
Hermione, You are one of my favorite ppl on RUclips. Pls don’t let those negative ppl hurt your heart! You are a light for those of us who love your channel. Shine on!
I made a whole list for decluttering on lockdown... but with a toddler and newborn it can be hard to find the time. I made a list and have been doing small bits almost everyday! Just going thru my daughters clothes (she’s 3 and I just had a boy) so trying to sort those to donate and sell or keep for my boy. It’s so much work!!!
It looks live you've grown so much in the past year. I'm excited for more videos to come. I'm sorry for your loss (I had to Google what "bereavement" means, English is not my first language). You'll declutter those sentimental items when you're ready, no rush. Hope you're doing well. Hugs from Argentina ❤️
The room is so beautiful and calming! That box room could be a great craft space, the natural light is pretty good and having all the craft supplies in one place will be better.
You and Dainty Diaries put up decluttering videos at almost the same time! I watched both of them in a row and now I feel like I did something productive even though the two of you did all of the work 😀
This has me inspired to declutter more. I have been decluttering for a few years. I have sold or given away so much. I'm now wondering how to donate things because my garage is now full. I have a bed frame, coffee table and end tables to match, corner art desk, boxes of household items, and some folding chairs. I need some ideas as to how to store them while we wait for the charity shops to re open. Suggestions please.
Your decluttering videos have helped me a lot - I love that you admit that you're not always perfect at it, and that we don't all have to be minimalists. Your approach has given me a lot of grace!
Awesome Hermione, I have also been doing a lot of decluttering, organizing and throwing stuff away and donating things, it has really made me feel better about my space. I only live in 800 square feet so organizing is very essential. Thank you for a wonderful video I have totally enjoyed seeing your house come together, it has been fun to see your DIY's , that is something I really enjoy as well as these decluttering videos, you really have a lot of great tips. I look forward to your next video, take care, stay safe, sending love and hugs, bye for now.
Hi, your home looks beautiful, I love the bohoo style, I started decluttering in 2019, and did a bag a month, now it's the attic we're sorting out, good grief my family shoved a lot up there, but a box at a time and I will get it done.
I have a cool series you could do.... Go on Instagram and lay out 6 different craft supplies and take pictures of them. Then we all pick 3 items each. Then you have to make a craft/upcycle item with those top 3 items! That would be so fun to see what you come up with!
I love your videos ! Thanks for being honest about feeling overwhelmed - other youtubers present decluttering as if it’s easy. I loved the clip of when you offered those items to your friend ! I understand about the need to wait until you’re ready to sort thru items left by late loved ones. Grief is tough. When my beloved grandma died we cleared out her home within a month or two but it took me ten years to finally throw out the contents of a small attache case which held her most personal papers. Stay safe and best wishes from Australia 🇦🇺 xx
Ooh, leaving eyesores out so I’m forced to deal with them. That is a very me solution. ...yet I still have a project that’s been sitting on the bench by my door for 3 months now. 🤦🏼♀️
It must be so difficult to purge things when you are such a creative diy-er! Like how do you not think - "oh perhaps I will use this in a way I just haven't thought of yet." I mean we all do the "what if's " when decluttering but this diy - ing broadens the possibilities incredibly! Good for you Hermione.....for meeting the challenge!! I truly enjoy watching all of your videos....you have a very calming way about you - even tho I know that can sometimes bely what you are truly going thru or feeling. So, thank you for making the effort & sharing your process with us. So enjoyable and aesthetically pleasing as always ♥
I’m sorry for the losses you’ve experienced this year. You were very kind to yourself by waiting to declutter those very sentimental items. You’ve done a great job of decluttering this past year. You were thoughtful about all of the items and were honest with yourself about their usefulness. You have managed to fill an entire room full of things to donate. You should be proud of yourself ! That’s in addition to all of the things you’ve gotten rid of prior to this video. I think moving the bathroom cabinet to house your shoes in the entryway will look so nice and tidy. I’m looking forward to more of your DIY’s.
i love the way your kindness and gentleness shines through in this video 💝 your personality is exactly why i followed you because your videos provide such a lovely warmth
Yours is the second decluttering video I have watched today so I am taking it as a sign that I need to get myself in gear and sort out the nightmare of craft supplies that is barely being contained in the spare room! Thanks for the inspiration! Hoping the sort through of sentimental items goes well, when the time is right. Xoxo
Hermione, I think it is extremely difficult to declutter when you have such a creative mind. You can create such beautiful things out of nothing, hence the "it may come in handy" mindset. Love your videos, we'll done to where your home is now. 👍
I think decluttering for me is just a life long chore. I don't despair, just realize I have to go through stuff again. That's why videos like this are so helpful. Thanks for sharing and being so real.
I find your decluttering videos so motivating (and at the same time also relaxing?!) Please do more, I love watching them while tackling my own mountains of stuff!
bloody love a declutter! I too am trying to simplify my home and you're right, a marathon not a sprint. I find it so tempting to chuck everything away in one go, but know I would miss a load of stuff if I did that and end up buying them again!
I can’t imagine leaving SPICY comments on decluttering videos. For me, decluttering is very emotionally taxing and it takes me AGES. I feel guilty for getting rid of items that people have bought for me, even if I don’t use them any more, and items that are sentimental to other people that I think they would want me to keep. I moved out 2 years ago and didn’t even start unpacking boxes until a few months ago. I now look back and wonder why I brought some of the stuff with me, but at the time I just didn’t have the emotional capacity to decide if I really wanted or needed the stuff. I think you are doing amazingly, and your house looks wonderful. I just can’t wait for the charity shops to open so we can all pass along the items that no longer serve us. X
You have done an amazing job on your home. Be proud! Think the empty dresser would be good for guests that use the bedroom, instead of donating or selling it.
You have done really well over the past year! It's great you have somewhere to store your donations until the charity shops open again, I have to squash them onto a (quite large) shelf in my kitchen as living in a small one bed flat I don't have any excess storage space. I will be so happy when I can finally get them out of my flat x
I’m a notebook hoarder also. But since I’ve taken over doing birthdays for my church ladies group so I was pleased not to have to buy a notebook to write out the details in from another ladies notebook. Xx
You are a total inspiration and I love your videos. Honestly the people who leave 'spicy' comments should realise that what goes around comes around. Keep doing what you do, we all love it especially in these uncertain times xx
Oh my goodness I LOVE decluttering videos! Well done! Great progress! Don’t put too much pressure on yourself for the sentimental items.... personally I find that you just naturally get to a point where it feels ok to get rid of the things..... you just get to a point where you feel like you don’t need the things to remember the person. But just work on it slowly, and it will feel natural when you do it. You got this! One suggestion for DIY and crafts... I find that if I designate a room, or a particular cupboard to one specific thing that helps me feel in control of it. So all my stuff is in one location rather than spread around the flat. I also then use that container as the limit for how much stuff I have.... if it doesn’t fit comfortably in the cupboard then something has to go!
Aw love this video. I love seeing your empty drawers. Having so much stuff is quite stressful in ways you don't realise until you clear it out. You've done amazing so far! Well done on pushing through and getting that room done! Sell the dresser on Facebook! Some others mentioned about having a dedicated craft / work room. Might help you stay organised elsewhere
Love your videos, especially this one. As I am a gold medal level procrastinator in the decluttering field, you have given me hope that I can follow your lead by tackling the 'easy' stuff first and not beat myself up for leaving some for later. Just had first jab so hoping to get to tip and charity shops in 2021 with my 'treasure'. Keep safe and happy😃💖
Thank you for the lovely comment Tricia 💖 I hope your decluttering goes well, I'm sure it will (even with that gold medal, although I might take the silver one). So glad to hear you got your jab 💖 that's great! My Nan got hers yesterday and I'm so happy! here's hoping for some great charity shop finds this spring
Omg so happy you uploaded another declutter video! I've rewatched your old declutter videos three times already🤭 I love them🥰 I'm sorry for your loss, dealing with old photos is hard. I've been there last year💜 stay strong, you are doing great💜
First, a hug and a High Five on your efforts. You've come a long way and it shows. Great Job! Second, Farmhouse Vernacular has great videos on the renovation project that is their home and one thing that was mentioned at the beginning of the kitchen project was that flat surfaces are clutter catchers (my phrase). Simply put, the more space you have the more you need to fill it - even if you don't 'need' the stuff. I've been working through my own declutter project for a few years now and while I'm farther along than I think I am, it is still a work in progress. Craft supplies (no matter what the craft) can easily get out of control because we 'want' them. Who doesn't get enticed by pretty colors and beautiful fabrics, etc.? One thing I noticed is that, like kids with too many toys, there is a lack of interest in using any of them. It is overwhelming - so they sit and dry out or collect dust. Third, I totally agree you need to take the time you need to deal with all the processes, even those bits that are painful. Finally, as one who has limited knowledge about how to manage candles, I would love to learn more about how you use up yours, what you do with them when they reach that end state, etc. What tips and tricks can you share? Thanks in advance - I'm off to check out your website.
I love declutter videos, always gets me pumped to do it myself! And I really do need to get on it, especially in my craft room and my kids room! And my craft room alone will ptobably require several weeks to sort through 😅
I felt anxiety on you giving away all that beautiful furniture. But what’s beautiful to me might not be so to you. So congrats on discovering who you are and what you want to live in your space. And shame on those who made you feel bad. Your wonderful, sweet and creative and I love watching your DIY’s and makeovers! Thank you!
I had to get rid of half of my household furniture and contents in 3 weeks to move from a large home to a home half the size. It was stressful but I feel much better downsizing.
I've learnt alot about my "hoard" in the year or 2020 and I am now also decluttering on and off camera! As well as using up stuff too. Lots of stuff is messy for my mind.
Good job Hermione!! Looks great and your showing the ups and downs is inspiring me to tackle a room. PS. Love your hair and waves...how do you achieve those? Curling iron or something else?
Yay! Let me know how the room goes? I'm glad to hear that you're going to tackle it 😀 Also thank you! I use a hair straightener for the waves and curve it backwards and forwards over the barrel 😀
Always love a new video about your lovely house,no matter what project you’re doing! Somehow it’s relaxing watching other people tidy up. 💖 I think we’re all learning not to stockpile stuff.....a trip to a shop is like a holiday nowadays!🤨🤣

Maybe keep the empty dresser, or replace it with something smaller? I'm just thinking that if this is a guest bedroom guests may want to unpack their suitcase!
I wouldn't be able to have so much patience when I know I have stuff to do. I'm working on that though, because the journey is more important than the destination even though the destination is so exciting.
I have that same "you're a peach" wall hanging that you offered to your friend! I just found it 2 days ago when I was rearranging my room, and finally steamed out all the creases and hung it over an IKEA kitchen cart that I have in my entryway, to hide the tray of various bits and bobs that land there, lmao. How funny to see it in your video!
Lovely vid Hermione. Always great watching you. Now I know I’m not the only one with clutter. Every now and again I do give away something I later on regret.......but the benefits of decluttering far out way a regret here and there.......thank, and love from Canada.

That may then help you see that you ARE making progress and not to be so hard on yourself. Collecting such an amount didn't happen overnight so it isn't likely to be decluttered overnight. You did good!
Hang in there! I am in my 60's and still decluttering!! At my age I only want what I use and love.
I really want to be that woman too but struggling massively to let go.
Can I ask when you started decluttering? I'm trying to help my middle aged mom downsize our home and I'd love any advice if you have any to give!
Well done Hermione you're right decluttering is a journey. Hugs from across the ocean.❤
You should turn the box room into your dedicated craft space! Would love to see it also live vicariously through you for the dream to have a craft room.
Well done so far Hermione! Every little bit counts is my motto and your videos encourage me to keep decluttering too
I remember when you first bought this place! Can’t believe it’s been 3 years!
Great job ! I’m the type who is cyclic. I go thru gathering phases then massive decluttering. I enjoy both but do rapid massive decluttering. No holding back. I’m lucky that I find it easy
Hermione,
You are one of my favorite ppl on RUclips.
I watched both of them in a row and now I feel like I did something productive even though the two of you did all of the work 😀
I watched dainty diaries before this one too 😊
😂🤣😂🤣
Why is watching others decluttering so relaxing? Great job and some good advice❤️
Currently rewatching, your decluttering videos are so calming, I love them! ♥️
Bless you sweetheart, I can see that you are still struggling, sending you lots of love and prayers.💖💖💖
I’m hoping your heart is a little less heavy each and every day. I could see the pain on your face. Sending you big hugs across the pond. 🖤
Thanks for being so candid ♥️ You are not alone in how you seem to have been feeling. 🤗
I love using things up so I'm so happy to see you burning your candles.
There's no point hoarding things like that. Use them and enjoy them.
You have done an amazing job on your home. Be proud! Think the empty dresser would be good for guests that use the bedroom, instead of donating or selling it.
Thank you for sharing! I myself am trying my best to declutter a bit as well as repurpose things to make them useful.
Just finished an hour and a half of declutter this vid inspired. Yay (i say in an exhausted but happy tone)
I'm still sitting trying to figure out how people would turn a decluttering video into something spicey 😂
Seriously! Clutter drama? What?
Usually, they're critical of how much there was to start and/or how much is kept.
@@RTCPhotoWork ooh that makes sense! I was thinking people were making sexual comments or something
Decluttering is PAIN! but its needs to be done! This helps me to get myself in the decluttering zone!! 😁😁😁
It's clear to see that you are hurting. Be kind to yourself sweetie. Bless you. xxx
If you use wax ( like from a candle) on the runners of your wooden drawers it will be an easier slide.
Omg so happy you uploaded another declutter video! I've rewatched your old declutter videos three times already🤭 I love them🥰 I'm sorry for your loss, dealing with old photos is hard. I've been there last year💜 stay strong, you are doing great💜
Love decluttering! Good job 👏🏽
You should try the Marie Kondo method! Its amazing! By the way, love your videos. xxx
Hermione, I really love all your videos. I'm so sorry about your berievements. Big hug to you. Your house is beautiful.
So great to see how far you've come! It would be nice to have a home tour to see a little bit of a global update 🥰💕
I love your decluttering videos! I dunno why people were so spicy about them before but I'm glad they're back! All in your own time of course 🥰
Great video, you made several great points about keeping things in perspective. I really enjoyed this video! Much love from California ❤❤❤
I love decluttering videos! I'm so glad you are starting these!
Loved the video, hope you pat yourself on the back for all your hard work 💕 your house really has come so far!
So sorry Hermione, this year I hope the best for you!
Always love a new video about your lovely house,no matter what project you’re doing! Somehow it’s relaxing watching other people tidy up. 💖
I think we’re all learning not to stockpile stuff.....a trip to a shop is like a holiday nowadays!🤨🤣
You took on a HUGE project and have done it so well !!! You are living my dream !!! Well done Hermione ! Always enjoy your videos !! tfs 🥰🌵🏜️❣️💕💞💗💖💘💝🥰🌵🏜️❣️💕💞💗💖💘💝🥰🌵🏜️❣️💕💞💗💖💘💝
You’re just the cutest! Love your videos. Great job decluttering!
My kids won't be happy but their toys are my next decluttering 😆 before their birthday.
But as my husband has pointed out they didn’t make the garage a home for my decluttering until the charity shops re open!!
I love a declutter it helps to clear my mind
Maybe keep the empty dresser, or replace it with something smaller? I'm just thinking that if this is a guest bedroom guests may want to unpack their suitcase!
You have done a great job on the decluttering - it looks great :)
You did a great job and have a great attitude towards decluttering.
Love following your progress. Your videos are alway a motivation and inspiration to me. Thank you ♥ Hope you're doing fine!
So sorry you have been going through some hard times Hermione. X
I find that my decluttering works best in stages. It takes longer but it is easier for me to approach my stuff in layers, if that makes sense.
Lovely vid Hermione. Always great watching you. Now I know I’m not the only one with clutter. Every now and again I do give away something I later on regret.......but the benefits of decluttering far out way a regret here and there.......thank, and love from Canada.
Sorry you stopped because of nasty pasties. You have done fabulously. Brilliant de cluttering. Love your channel. You have put so much passion into your home. Stand proud. Gorgeous home.
