Alright Lily and James are two kids whose father runs or is employed at some sort of theatre. he's in charge of putting the movies in the projector. the kids like to sneak out and watch the movies he's playing, that's where they get their vivid imaginations and all their pirate stories. The kid's mother died giving birth to james, and now his father hates him and calls him useless because he thinks james took his wife away and only brought him misery. Lily is protective of her brother, but she tells him he needs to show his worth, because she thinks her mother gave up her life for him. james feels an immense amount of pressure because of what his father and sister tell him. he sometimes feels it would have been better if he wasn't born. lily is into acting, and she's taken on the role of the captain thanks to one of the movies her father played. she has james playing mr hardy. they were both big dreamers, and dreamed of escaping to a better life. lily thinks her brother has a lot of potential. sometimes lily has to hide her brother from their father because i think he was abusive. she would hide him in the dark, and he didn't like it, so she tried to explain that it could be what he made it. i think their father gets money from a relative, maybe their uncle, and that person feels that they are getting nothing in return for their help. the father is waiting for some sort of "lucky break" but he gets into gambling because he needs more money. he tried to gamble away a necklace that belonged to the mother at one point, one that lily had told james to watch over, but lily makes james get it back from him somehow. there is also one instance of the anniversary of the mother's death, where the father used all his money to buy flowers for her grave instead of a present for james' birthday. one day their father has a particularly bad episode, and lily decided to run away with james. she told him they were going on an adventure as the captain and mr hardy, and became stowaways on a ship that didn't tolerate stowaways. they lived underneath, with the cargo and animals, sneaking around trying to find food. there were a couple of times where one of the security men saw them, but they were never able to catch them due to being too scared to be alone in the dark of the cargo hold for some unknown reason. instead they just reported the sighting. at some point, the ship ran out of food, and the food lily and james had saved either went bad or was eaten by mice, which james blamed himself for because lily had trusted him to take care of the food. they're left trying to look for scraps. once, james almost takes a dead rat to eat, and lily makes him leave it. in what seem to be his own journal entries, james talks about the characters of the captain and mr hardy, lily and himself, and states he is a little envious of how brave lily is. but he admires her, and lily has promised to protect him. i think that's everything i've been able to piece together by watching! i do wish jack took some more time to listen to the dialogues, because he keeps saying he's confused and has no idea what's going on when really the story's been very clear so far in the dialogue.
which is why the gold changed into fish: what is solid gold to starving children? Father had one eye: monster is a cyclops mother died in childbirth and dad gambled money away and either abandoned the children or committed suicide. dad served in the war and when he got back either made movies (director IS dad) or operated a cinema.
@@mjoberg6695 I also think that maybe James became an actor because acting is clearly something his sister loved and maybe that influenced him, also the movie posters may be all of James' movies
@@haileyiscommenting EXACTLY was thinking the same thing. James always wanted to 'disappear' so what better way to act than to have practice removing yourself first?
Here's my part of this theory, Lily is either the woman we often see in the posters and hear speaking lines when the posters are found. Or, and this is based on the fact that twice now the game has made Jack shoot a gun, maybe while on the ship a movie was being shot and there was a working replica gun left laying out, the two kids found it and James ended up shooting Lily with it, killing her while they were play. James has then spent his whole life trying to forget what he did by forcing himself into roles so hard that he's trying to erase all traces of who he once was, but now that he's older his mind is starting to break on him and force him to relive what happened while his other 'characters' are getting mixed up in the mess of his memories.

"she gave everything for you" "prove it was worth it" "prove you weren't a mistake." This seems like a reference to the Georges Melies film "a trip to the moon" (for anyone who doesn't know, a rocket hits the eye of the man in the moon in this film, and this especially fits with the film motif) (and yes, I'm a huge nerd) Lilly mentioning "darkness falling across town", and seeing the stars as "a thousand souls on fire". could be a reference to blackouts and air-raids. i cringed how could he call the wizard of oz the chocolate factory?? -brain for the scarecrow -heart for the tin man -strength for the lion and he went through the emerald city T_T
Caroline the brain from the man made of straw, the muscular arm of a beast, and a metal heart. What ever happened in this oz story. Seems like they were killed.
@Zwodlorum because i found irony in the specifiness of the items, it could have been a regular heart, or a human muscle arm, but it was a lions arm. And and a metal heart meaning that they weren't just references, they were killed and their body parts taken. Lol ikr? Personally I _really_ disliked this game/series, but I feel for everyone who DID like it, and them not getting a conclusion for this. I really hate when any let's player does that, beginning a game with a linear story to it and then not seeing the series all the way through. Really sucks =/
@@babyblue_22 Yeah, how dare this guy not finish a game that he obviously didn't like playing ― if someone starts a series, they _have_ to play through the entire game, even if they don't enjoy it because YOU want them to. What a dick he is for not catering to your interests!
@@itisamystery.5090 I wouldn't call him a dick, but yes, actually. Just lost my aunt today. Thanks for being one of the few people that can make me smile today. Your content means more to some of us then you will ever know. Thanks for always being there to cheer me up.
just throwing out ideas but I think that you Play as James grown up. The way I see it, Lily was saying how her brother would be a great actor(in her ramble saying he could set hearts on fire and make thousands cry) and I think in the beginning your character said he doesn't like ships in a letter but he couldn't give up the part. And seeing young Lily and James are memories of when they were stowaways. but that's just a theory.
Still haven't figured out what the dummies and the weird noises represent(I'm terrible with symbolism in movies and stuff like that) but I think this act is about how the kids got on the ship. Their dad was injured and disabled in WW1 and the only job he could get was to screen movies in his basement, the kids would watch from the rafters because they weren't allowed down there and they saw a pirate movie which led to them to pretending to be pirates. The father hated the son James because his mother died giving birth to him, and was abusive towards him and at some point the girl Lily finally had enough and either started a fire or had some sort of a struggle with the father that led to a fire, not sure which since there is a note about how much of a fire hazard the projecter in the basement is. They left him to die in the fire and stowed away on the ocean liner to America. Also there are a bunch of homages to real life movies in this game and I think the disfigured thing in the wheelchair both represented the father and was maybe a nod to The Hills Have Eyes since it strongly resembles one of the mutants from it. ALSO the house is the same layout as the house from LOF1, I played through that game multiple times and recognized it instantly. It seems unlikely that it's just a case of them reusing an asset given how deliberately the environments are crafted to convey story, so there's probably some significance there as well.
I have to say, after a very disappointing Act 2, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed Act 3. Even though Jack didn’t continue the series, I’m hoping as I play now Act 4 it will continue to get better.
Well yes, we know that the father is the monster. We know that mother died, you play as the brother and your sister is narrating this. My theory is that is that the ship is the brother's life. His life is falling apart, and this character theme is basically him trying to fit himself into the play which is life itself. And i just assume that the father hates his son because he was the "fault" of the mother's death. Now the question is what happens to this family. What happened to the sister, the brother and the father in the end. I suspect they end up killing him somehow.
@@GOTHICforLIFE1 no, the father died at the end, as far as i understood it right. when they were in the room with a weird fat body, father said: "help me, make it stop" and then Lily and James left. after that the adult-James says sth about father's loss.
I like watching you and your videos they're all awesome and funny, my personal favorite is the deing light version part three the one that has the different steps to kill the zombie with the tank on it's back.

Past Jack: The last game didn't have enough gameplay.
New game: here's more gameplay!
Jack: But No!!!
Jack: “Later straw Jesus”
My brain:
*S T R E E Z U S*
Me: IT'S A SCARECROW FROM WIZARD OF OZ!!!!!
Sorry I get triggered
i cringed
how could he call the wizard of oz the chocolate factory??
-brain for the scarecrow
-heart for the tin man
-strength for the lion
and he went through the emerald city T_T
Caroline the brain from the man made of straw, the muscular arm of a beast, and a metal heart. What ever happened in this oz story. Seems like they were killed.
@Zwodlorum because i found irony in the specifiness of the items, it could have been a regular heart, or a human muscle arm, but it was a lions arm. And and a metal heart meaning that they weren't just references, they were killed and their body parts taken. Its kinda hard to describe what im trying to say but its just kinda funny with a creep factor. Like one of those things that you kinda just realize.

Come on Jack it’s just ONE episode left! You can at least finish the game
Lol ikr? Personally I _really_ disliked this game/series, but I feel for everyone who DID like it, and them not getting a conclusion for this. I really hate when any let's player does that, beginning a game with a linear story to it and then not seeing the series all the way through. Really sucks =/
@@babyblue_22
Yeah, how dare this guy not finish a game that he obviously didn't like playing ― if someone starts a series, they _have_ to play through the entire game, even if they don't enjoy it because YOU want them to. What a dick he is for not catering to your interests!
@@itisamystery.5090 I wouldn't call him a dick, but yes, actually. Even if he wasn't in love with the game, it would be nice for him to finish it not for himself, but for all his viewers who really _were_ enjoying this, and into the series. And like the OP said, there was only one episode left of this game, so not finishing it is really just kinda...not cool.
Oh and actually there would be 2 episodes left, there are 5 acts
It is a mystery. I’m sorry but when you start something at your job, don’t you have to finish it? Yes. You do. You don’t get to just walk away because you don’t *like* it. This is his job. He needs to finish what he started.

JACK IM HAPPY FOR YOU THAT YOU ARE MAKING THESE CLASSIC VIDEOS THEY ARE ALWAYS THE BEST ONES 🙂👌👍
I know I shouldn’t be surprised that jack is a fan of “roots, bloody roots”...
*but somehow I am.*
Act 3 was my favorite to play and sitting down just to watch it now I’m realizing it’s because it reminds me a bit of what remains of Edith Finch, one of my favorite games.
Anti is here, we know

It's okay that you didn't finish Sean! I really enjoyed it so far up to this point, and I'm proud of the work you do!

18:25 when he was talking about perfectly timed thunder, there was thunder outside lmao
just throwing out ideas but I think that you Play as James grown up.
A game theory
Oh hey, I'm early.

Sean, I just wanna say thank you.
Thank you for making these classic let's play type of videos.
I really love them. You're the best.
"Ooh a hatch John Locke would be proud" *Ah a man of refined taste*
Please Jack, Part 4. Don't leave us hanging!
The story and ambiance of this game is so good! I can't wait to see what happens next.
I hope you finish this game it seems so interesting and looked forward to part 4

a Good game to try after this one is a game called "A Hat in Time" I think you will like it.
2:07 , we literally shouted "bloody roots" back at the same time Jack
please dont stop playing this game
I have to say, after a very disappointing Act 2, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed Act 3. Even though Jack didn’t continue the series, I’m hoping as I play now Act 4 it will continue to get better.
JACKKKKKK!
play smile for me on steam I think you should play it!
It will be out tomorrow
I love all the subtle movie references scattered throughout the game and how they incorporate it into the story.
"It's all coming together!" Is it tho?
@@GOTHICforLIFE1 i assume maybe James killed Lily, not the other way around. ??
I like watching you and your videos they're all awesome and funny, my personal favorite is the deing light version part three the one that has the different steps to kill the zombie with the tank on it's back.
