    Mango hasn’t lost a tournament set to a samus since Hugs at Evo 2007. Even then, that set at Evo 2007 was him playing jigglypuff and was a best of 3. Mang0’s spacies are undefeated vs samus and he has never lost a best of five to a samus. That is a crazy stat considering we are now in an era where Axe has lost to two Marth players and Hbox has lost to a peach (matchups they were once known for being undefeated in for 10+ years) I know samus is less common than those characters but still it’s an interesting stat

      Even though the match-ups suck, Marth and Peach are top tiers. Not that remarkable imo, his stats against Falcon is more impressive.

You are right, nobody argues that Samus is a top tier, but a lot of people talk about how good she is and yeah she is kinda good but I think people underestimate how hard she is to play above low level

    morse doing some sick tech the commentators didn't pick up on - a kind of bomb mini wave land, like at 10:54 (he does it in the pokemon stadium game a bunch as well). awesome way to apply shield pressure and cross up on shield that i don't see a lot of other contemporary samuses doing

    The only time I consumed an entire 2liter of mountain dew in one day, it was for a double all-nighter for the final projects of multiple classes during my sophomore year at MIT. In total I was awake for 56 hours, thanks in large part to that 2liter on day 2.
    But for morsecode I guess that's just a casual Sunday of video games? Literally built different.

    If Morse is going to commit to the up b being part of his gameplan, then he needs to get better at identifying his mix-up options when he's under pressure so that he can open the door to either go for grabs or wavedash back to reset neutral or what have you. Your goal really when you're using an attack like that is to keep the opponent guessing. All you have to do is pre-emptively determine when or if Mang0 is going to drop shield (which isn't to say he isn't doing that already, but he's has room to improve there on his hard reads).
    Like, when i was grinding Smash Ultimate constantly, learning when to hold and delay the up smash or up b with Cloud was incredibly essential to my gameplan among other things. Obviously in Melee, the game's much faster and you're having to account for Fox's shine as a get off me tool, but its still the same situation basically. You've already conditioned Mang0 to shield, the hard part is out of the way. Now you just have to identify what all of your possible options in that situation is and be able to perform any of those consistently.
    That's not even to mention that you have 5 i frames at the beginning of Samus's up B. The whole thing is just a game of chicken, there's not that much of a reason to panic.

    • @melikmourali2072
      @melikmourali2072 2 месяца назад +1

      You can't buffer options in Melee like you do in Ultimate, so the option select is not as free. It is mentally taxing to react to a specific move and have the right timing. Also Samus' grab is much slower and easy to punish in Melee (I think it is almost punishable on reaction if you recognize the visual cue), so getting Mango to shield really isn't enough to make progress.
      You need to win several neutral interactions just to damage Fox's shield safely, so I get why someone would panic and throw up-B's to get the upper hand. Let's not make it seem like playing against a Fox who plays the match up almost perfectly is not panic inducing.

      I see where youre coming from as an ult player, because in my understanding its pretty easy to pick out what you "should" do when it comes to defense in that game. But in melee, especially in an actual game, it gets a lot more difficult. Reacting to fox's shield pressure is extremely difficult mid game, with the commentators even speaking about the mental stack it takes to play like morse does against Mang0. Morse is also playing against the guy who kinda invented tricky shield pressure, so i think your analysis of "the hard part is out of the way" isnt as nuanced as it should be.
      From my perspective, Mang0 isnt shielding in front of morse because hes conditioned to. Instead, i think Mang0 has conditioned morse to exclusively up-b oos because hes made him feel like its his only option (it kinda is, this matchup is so bad); its an adaptation to how much morse is up-bing out of shield. "conditioning" a player in as simple of a situation as a single mixup situation out of shield is not how the game works especially at the top level. in my opinion, Morse should be more aware of his mixups out of shield rather than making up b a central part of his gameplan like you said. But i dont play samus and im nowhere near as good as I should be to make qualified statements like that LOL
      Your ideas are correct though i think your understanding of the game lacks depth. Morse did start getting a lot more grabs and taking advantage of the shield heavy style Mang0 was making use of but it was unfortunately too little too late with it being the last games of the set. Mang0 also adapting to the adaptation that Morse made kinda shows how many layers there are to this game which are impossible to calculate

      @@UltimaScout No, if your decision making is succeeding "every single time" theres no competitive incentive to "shake things up." Mixups only become advantageous when your opponent demonstrates the capacity to counterplay your options. A lower level player may have difficulty understanding this concept
