I literally just bought a bold 9900 for work calls and texts. Very nostalgic. Why someone won't bring this form back running updated android boggles my mind
Here was something that did exactly what it was intended to - provide communication. Phones were always supposed to be just about calling people or sending them a message. I guess it just didn't sell because people do not buy phones to communicate anymore, people buy phones for the opposite - to be disconnected. When my flip phone broke last year, I got an Android which I said was only "temporary", I always meant to replace it. I've always used flip phones, you see, I never really grew out of them since when they were still all the trend - phones with tactile keys, tangible buttons. Though, it was not just a trend for me; they made sense, for they did exactly what phones were intended for (and they did it with style). But having "outdated" preferences is just getting harder and harder each year, as these things become more and more inaccessible. I'm not a stranger to smartphones, mind you, I had the first Iphone back then (the Nexus 4 was and always will be my favorite, however), but I just don't look at phones the way people do. When I'm going to a party or carpooling with someone or ordering food, I have a phone, I'll call you; if I want to check my e-mail or read something on-the-go, an article, perhaps, or a quick chapter to study on the train, that's good, I can use my phone for that. If I want to check something, do a quick search on the Internet, maybe find out where the nearest coffee shop is or what the word 'acrimonious' means - yes, I can do that on my phone, it's useful. And yes, the ability to snap photos and quick videos whenever something merits it is good to have, but what made special the photographs & videos & the memories they were supposed to preserve has been marred by people who abuse that ability & somehow have turned it into necessity. This lure of black mirrors of endless vanity, infinitely scrolling down to the abyss, just doesn't attract me. A phone, much like a toaster, is merely a tool (one for remote communication); it is not a: friend, companion, lover, date, conversation; it is not a drink at the beach at sunset on the first night of full moon or a walk in the park with a stranger; it is not status, not culture, not civilization, nor enlightenment - it is not the world. It is, however, both sad & ironic that these things they have so eloquently dubbed "smart", in turn, make people less and less of it - each day, each hour, each waking moment of "Instagrammable", ultra-likable, shareable dullness & dismal hoo-ha of subscribing to how softly I can chew my fucking food each time. Anyway, so now that that temporary Android is broken, and it's nothing if not next to impossible to find the typical flip phones I normally opt for, especially in these wretched times, I am going to get this, the Blackberry Classic, in 2020. I have always been fond of them & the tangible "QWERTY" keyboard, but never got to using one long-term. I am tired of constantly having to buy new phones because of the crudeness of make of these previously easily accessible unbranded flips, so I have decided to make the switch from flip to berry; I am buying three of these classics, so I'll have spares when one breaks. But they should last me for the next three decades, yeah? Whether or not Blackberry decides to update this phone does not matter, at least to me, for they still do what they're supposed to do. At the end of the day, I'm not gonna care about its limits, for it already does more than what I expect a phone to do; and I don't care about the specifications & other techno-whatever or how it doesn't let me do this or that - that's what the computer I have at home is for. If they choose to do so, though, update it, then there is still a market for it - it might only truly ever be a market of one, but then again, from reading what others have written here, it looks like a lot of other people will be buying it, too, at least; people will just always be nostalgic that way. But I want to be part of something more than a saccharine trend or a brief cloying phase of fashionable nostalgia, I want to be part of the resurgence of things that do exactly what they're supposed to do - nothing more, nothing less. Who's with me?
hey i'm from the future considering making the switch, how has your blackberry held up now that all blackberry services have been discontinued? does it still work well enough for daily use?
Had the Curve, Torch, 2 x Z10's, Z30 and still have my Motion (Still so good) since it came out. Literally changing out the battery tomorrow. Only $45.00 on Amazon. Great return on my investment. My dad has the Classic and a good (older friend), had the Priv and now the KeyOne. He can't wait for the 2021 version. I really wish they updated something like the Motion. So amazing. A little extra horsepower and I'd be good for several years :)
I still use the Blackberry Classic...I'm on my second and it's still my primary email and phone - it's built like a tank, can conference all, can text and email with great accuracy - and have two more ready to go when the current one finally give out...
BlackBerry should recognize there’s a niche market for their phones and software. They can have a small department to cater to this niche market and maintain the OS and have only one keyboard phone and that’s it. It sure wouldn’t cost them too much and will still make solid profits. As a side note: I do prefer the q10 over the Classic because of its compactness.
Gonna get one just for making calls and texts. Blackberry are the coolest looking devices ever made and you feel like you get your moneys worth when you buy one.
God I hope that new 2021 BB is a revised version of this beauty> I have the Key2, but I still use this as my daily driver since I am not a big Social Media consumer.
This was my favourite BlackBerry! I remember when you could youtube and fb same time.. But it ended up changing.. I put this phone through hell but still got mine!
Everyone I know is tired of me talking about blackberry, this damn iPhone would be thrown out the window T H E M O M E N T they release a new one, debating getting the key 2 le love your videos you’ve just earned a new subscriber
Yes! Q20 Class is the most beautiful BB phone ever made. And yes! It has the most perfect BB keyboard ever. It's still fully funcitonal and operative in 2020. I'm so proud and satisfied with this amazing and unique model.
I am from India. took out my BB classic out after 4 years , during second lockdown. Fell is love with the keyboard once again. Incredible Security features too. With Privacy becoming such an issue and USA TECH majors under security, blackberry being Canadian company, wondering if this Brand can be revived ?
I'm a late comer to this channel but it's by far my favourite BlackBerry one. I haven't owned a blackberry since 2008 but have just bought the q10 and I'm enjoying the change from iPhone and android . Hopefully we can see their fortunes change this year
Still rocking mine -- the BEST! I keep a backup charged if I'm in a bind -- swap the sim, sd and go! Still works on AT&T AND recent update earlier this year allows it to CHARGE WIRELESSLY! I have no idea how, but trust me it works.
After watching this review I had to jump on eBay and re-enter the BlackBerry world. Phone works great for basic needs...text, email and calls. All I need
I saw from google search that it will have its end of life by next year. Can you explain what it means? Can we still use it as a regular phone for call nd text?
The classic is quintessential the best iteration of any blackberry phone. It came with a solid build quality and OS, was compact and had nifty shortcuts and was a traditional blackberry in every sense. After a point of time in life, we need our phones to excel at communication first and this did that really well. This was a tool and not a toy. Will go down in history as one of the most iconic BlackBerry phones along with the Bold 9900 and Passport.
still using my 6-year old BB Classic in August 2020. The point about the utility of the cursor in communicating is spot on. It is still a great phone and communication tool. as for apps, forget it. can't even get uber to download. I love the tool bar. i would buy an updated version TODAY. tried the keyone, hated it.
A minus point with BlackBerry is that they update their OS only for two years. I suggest: less frills, lower bills and longer updates (at least five years).
Blackberry does today what it did 20 years ago: calendar, contacts, email, text and performs as a darn good voice device. 8MP camera better than ones used by NASA. The absence of 'apps' a major plus given personal data vulnerabilites. As a general user, they will have to pry this Q20 from my cold dead hands. Superlative overview from an insightful wireless consultant who's given to the innate classicism that is Blackberry. Thanks for a worthwhile overview.
Agree 100% I would GLADLY pay $600 for this exact phone with modern hardware and updated browser/Android emulation. I've been using my Classic since 2015 and I refuse to get anything else. I've got a little rinky dink Kyocera flip phone from work, but I use the BlackBerry for everything else. When this one dies I'm probably just gonna buy another used one in better condition. People think I'm nuts but it really is the greatest phone ever made!!
I really want to switch to a PKB Blackberry from my iPhone 7 (still works perfectly, just don’t want anything to do with Apple anymore). Would the Classic be a good pick up? I’m on a budget, otherwise I would get a Key2. The only apps I use on are IMs (FB messenger, Whatsapp, Telegram), scrolling through Twitter and the occasional RUclips video every now and again. Absolutely love the Classic’s design!
I tried the play store thing recently on a Q10, someone made a website dedicated to it. It's the first thing that comes up when you search for it on Google. It does work but not quite as useful as it used to be, since most apps have dropped Android 4.3 support they just won't show up at all when you search for them (so, you still need to find an old APK and sideload, e.g. for Discord). Some apps like Slack haven't supported Android 4.3 since like 2017, and even loading the old APK won't make it work, so that was a dealbreaker for me unfortunately. I was really hoping I could go back top using my trusty old Q10 in 2020. Instead I ended up going for a key2 le based on your video, and I'm very happy with it so far.
@@TechOdyssey The Key2 doesn't have the quality or security though does it? I don't like Google or Apple running my life. If I could find a solid secure Blackberry I would go back. I'm on a flip phone now. I don't trust Google or Apple.
I still have my BB Classic, using it once in a while. I love the keypad and it never fails to catch someone's attention when holding it👍 Too bad BB10 is dead😞
@@TechOdyssey yes it is. I prefer it more than the passport, I don't know maybe it's just me. I have a question though, how do you install some Android apps that is no longer available in the BB market?
They have different websites and someone said you can download a play store app that has limited functionality. I download mine directly from a website called appsapk.com but I can’t say how secure it is, but has worked for me. Other stuff I get from Amazon App Store
I am going back to BlackBerry!. Talking about it for years. I still miss it. I am going to buy a BB Classic. I still have my Bold!. I pay for an upgrade!!!...please come back BB 🙏
PLEASE DO REPLY !!! AM WAITING ! I just want to use this phone for calling and texting ,should I buy this or not in 2020 ? I don't care about the social media and stuff I just want to use this phone but at the same time I don't want to waste my money if this phone stopped working after company gets shuts down in August .So just let me know if I should go ahead and buy this beautiful phone or just say no and break my heart 💔
This phone will not stop working in August. It has nothing to do with the BlackBerry Mobile licensing agreement. This phone will keep working the same as it is now, and, is fine for texting and calls as long as it's on ATT or Tmobile or other GSM variants. Won't work on Sprint or Verizon that I know of
Thanks for making this video. I love blackberry, it’s my daily phone. How do we install Pandora music? An answer will be appreciated. Thanks in advance
I always wanted a blackberry but never got one, always been an iPhone user. But thinking of buying a blackberry classic, I wanted to ask you will it be worth the money? Should I buy it since having no social media apps is not a problem for me. Plus I also wanted to ask you that I heard blackberry OS10 is the most secured OS, better than iOS and android, is that true?? Plus I would add you are doing a great stuff, love your videos particularly of blackberry ones!! If possible please do some videos on old blackberry phones like bold, curve, torch which was market leaders of their time.
Well, they're probably still fairly secure, but more so by lack of volume and age, and an OS that isn't commonly circulated anymore. The common malware and exploits used today are geared towards Android and iOS. Likely new 18 year old hackers don't know what BB10 is lol. Plus the browser hardly works, you don't have access to many apps that use the internet and even basic things like Gmail don't work any more which limits even further exposure to the internet and outside data. So... For those reasons it may still be secure. But, this doesn't deal with how secure the OS actually is especially since it hasn't been been updated in over 5 years. So, I'm not really sure, but personally I wouldn't be worried using it.
Funniest thing about my Bold 9650 is when Verizon told me I didn't need anymore than their minimum data plans because "Blackberry data is stored on their servers". Not sure if this is true, but even with 3 of these on a Verizon family plan we have never come close to their min 2G of data.
I still have this phone...or can i call it a machine! I always felt i had a machine in my pockets. Am also in for an updated version of the Blackberry Classic
Even in 2021 this design is still futuristic. They should have kept up. I woukd like to see the Lumia Microsoft Software, ios, android and Blackberry. That would be such a fun world to live in.
I'm very close to buy one but I'm worried it will completely die on me. I know there's no support for the phone but with some work around its kinda still manageable. Os it expected to just completely die any time soon?
Still using mine since 2015, but unfortunately it's time to switch soon. There's just too many limitations at this point. I have it on Verizon, and it still works for now (though I've been getting sporadic problems recently), but it won't work after the end of this year.
I use a BlackBerry Curve 9220 as a paperweight. Once you get used to this keyboard, you cannot drop it off. I wish if there could be a way to use WhatsApp as well, it would be my daily driver for sure.
Great videos, Thank you. Keep the excellent work. I am a super. Blackberry fan, too. I was very unhappy when WhatsApp stopped supporting BB OS 10. Since you have mentioned , that you have managed to install WhatsApp on BB 10, would you please, share the link with the APK, instructions that actually work today, in 2020 ( for BB Passport, Z10, Classic phones) ? Back in 2018/19 'I've managed to load WA on BB Passport, but it shuts down, or doesn't open again, etc.. I believe, everybody here would appreciate it. Thank you very much .
The trackball thingie on my Torch broke, which is why i upgraded to the Z10. The Z10 was a good phone. But, I seriously disliked not having a keyboard. The Classic is almost as purdy as my Priv was ;-)
@@TechOdyssey OK BB Classic (in front of me !!!) is an exceptional phone ! But Blacktrack Activity was such an application irreplaceable (Call history + SMS history etc. with Daily report HTML in mail ! Fabulous for Job). Result : I still use my Bold 9900... Unpopular opinion lol, but I never particularly liked the Classic for several reasons ;I definitely preferred my Bold 9900. My favorite BB10 device (Never had a chance at the Passport.) was the Q5, followed by the Q10. They were a bit fragile though (Q5 and Q10) ; both perished from accidents that they should have survived.
I have one on Verizon, too bad they are turning off 3G end of this year. It will be a sad moment . But wait, in your video you just stated that it has LTE but is that for data only? Verizon engineer told me it is 3g and I have till end of 2020. Was he wrong?
I searched and seemed to find that this phone is 3g with some exceptions, "The Blackberry Classic holds connectivity features like 3G, 4G LTE (selected markets)". I wonder what do they mean by "selected markets"?

Thanks for the show... Hang in there I'll getcha an updated Classic!
Definitely must be android though. But that wouldn't be hard to create a BB10 themed launcher. let me know if ya wanna chat
Does the device really die that quick that you need to replace that often?!
And I agree what kills Blackberry is gaming & social medias
BlackBerry should recognize there’s a niche market for their phones and software. They can have a small department to cater to this niche market and maintain the OS and have only one keyboard phone and that’s it. It sure wouldn’t cost them too much and will still make solid profits. As a side note: I do prefer the q10 over the Classic because of its compactness.
This phone was one of my favorite designs, if I hadn’t gotten my iPhone 4 at the time, I would have definitely gotten a blackberry. Great video man
Thanks a lot. Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it
TechOdyssey any time. Sure did. Keep up the great work
Gonna get one just for making calls and texts. Blackberry are the coolest looking devices ever made and you feel like you get your moneys worth when you buy one.
God I hope that new 2021 BB is a revised version of this beauty> I have the Key2, but I still use this as my daily driver since I am not a big Social Media consumer.
I love my Classic! I can use it for email, calls, whatsapp, internet and youtube. Sadly it cannot cope with many apps. But I still love it!
I wish they would come out with an updated model
Great video thanks! Just bought one off eBay last night and I can’t wait to use it
Oh cool. Make sure you watch my video on how to fix BlackBerry world before you set it up
This was my favourite BlackBerry!
Thanks a lot. Glad you enjoy my content. I appreciate you watching.
@Renee Louis yup. Going to be awesome
I have a Key2: it's worth it.
I would pay for the upgrade if it was ofered . Excellent video.
Thanks a lot. I would pay for it too! Thanks for watching
Best phone in the perfect size. I would get a refreshed version the day it arrives.
Me too. If only...
I have no idea how, but trust me it works.
hey adam, you need to get your hands on a cobalt blue version of the classic! absolutely beautiful!
I had one before and like an idiot I sold it years ago
Just a heads up, you mentioned 2015 instead of 2020!
Have really been enjoying your content recently - keep up the good work.
Ugh. I’m an idiot.
After watching this review I had to jump on eBay and re-enter the BlackBerry world. Phone works great for basic needs...text, email and calls. All I need
Nice! Welcome back.
Really I'm looking for small cellphone. I think this is the best coolest one to buy.
Brother your presentation was very good 😊❤️ keep going ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love the blackberry classic 🥳
Me too!
still using my 6-year old BB Classic in August 2020.
BB needs to release one for 2021, the rumor mill is promising.
Hope we see it happen this year.
Still going strong with the Classic in 2021! This comment added via the Classic!
The KEY2 LE is solid. I’m glad it’s working for you. Yeah. No slack and no google hangouts is a real deal breaker for me. I have to have them for work
@@TechOdyssey The Key2 doesn't have the quality or security though does it? I don't like Google or Apple running my life. If I could find a solid secure Blackberry I would go back. I'm on a flip phone now. I don't trust Google or Apple.
I just bought a refurbished Classic on Ebay and also the leather pouch for the Classic. Definitely a must have!
Yes!!! An absolute must have. One of my favorite parts about blackberries. No need for a case. The pouches are great.
TechOdyssey absoluty! I bought it from ebay for around 15 bucks including shipping
Watching on my blackberry classic
I still have my BB Classic, using it once in a while. I love the keypad and it never fails to catch someone's attention when holding it👍
Too bad BB10 is dead😞
Best. Keyboard. Ever. I wish I could still use tho phone at 100% today.
@@TechOdyssey ok. I'll try that. Almost all the apps that comes with the phone are no longer working.
I love my Classic and use it every day.
Awesome!
Won't work on Sprint or Verizon that I know of
@@TechOdyssey thanks for the information , really appreciate it 💯
Another enjoyable video and you've helped me discover Kiwi Wonder for the first time!! Viewed your video on a Q10
Kiwi wonder is amazing. Everyone should play it. Plus I love the music
@@TechOdyssey yeah the in game music is amazing!
@@johnonebigscribble it's also free on Android!
Thanks for making this video. I love blackberry, it’s my daily phone. How do we install Pandora music? An answer will be appreciated. Thanks in advance
I can't wait for Blackberry come back in 2021
Still want need a bold-key3 BB!
Thanks for all your content!
#TeamBB4ever
#BBboldkeyboard
Loved my BB back in the day.
By far your best video bud. Nice one.
Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed it.
I will try my classic again as "focus"-Device
Thanks for the encouragement. I miss the BBOS10 Experience
This was the best phone I’ve ever had. Smooth and nice👌
It’s like the pro+ version of Blackberry Bold 9900.
Now I want it lol.
I'm thinking about buying Blackberry Classic...Is this available 2020
The Q20 is like the IPHONE 4 due to its construction and great hardware!
Question: how secure do you believe these Bb10 devices are these days? Your expertise would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Best phone ever made.
It really is a nice looking phone. It is a good size too. I was looking at my Bold the other day and I didnt remember it being so small.
Still keeping it along with Priv as back up for my Passport & keyOne
I'm very close to buy one but I'm worried it will completely die on me. I know there's no support for the phone but with some work around its kinda still manageable. Os it expected to just completely die any time soon?
Best phone ever. Had two, sold theme but now looking for new one.
Yes. My most favorite regular BlackBerry model ever
Still using mine since 2015, but unfortunately it's time to switch soon. There's just too many limitations at this point. I have it on Verizon, and it still works for now (though I've been getting sporadic problems recently), but it won't work after the end of this year.
Try bbtube for youtube. Try Bird10 for twitter. Some clever developers making some good native bb10 apps out there
Cam DeB couldn’t find Brubeck. Where can it be downloaded?
I use a BlackBerry Curve 9220 as a paperweight. Once you get used to this keyboard, you cannot drop it off. I wish if there could be a way to use WhatsApp as well, it would be my daily driver for sure.
BlackberryForever!
What I love is physical keyboard
@Techoddesssey you should make a concept for a new BB! I and 300 would preorder for sure
I'd still be using this phone if it weren't for the OS.
Still use it as a second phone , i bought it in 2015 , indestructible !
It’s built to last
The trackball thingie on my Torch broke, which is why i upgraded to the Z10. The Z10 was a good phone. But, I seriously disliked not having a keyboard.
The Classic is almost as purdy as my Priv was ;-)
🙇 Bold 9900 first with Keyboard AND Touchscreen AND small ❤️👍💖👍❤️ ... Then os10 with BB Classic love it too 👍👍👍 but without BLACKTRACK ACTIVITY 😢😢😢😢😢
The Classic was such a good phone!
He's 10 years old now !!! In France, they just removed BBerry Services and I will have to give up Bold & Classic.
I'm sorry for my deplorable English language...
The best Blackberry Phone ❤️
#blackberrygang
Yessir!
I miss my Blackberry 😩
The Verizon model is GSM unlocked and still works on CDMA, not a terrible idea to buy but still won't have all GSM bands.
Hi.. LOVE this phone. But I would love to have the cobalt blue version. Anyway I could find one?
How about BBM ? Is the BBM still working ?
Does blackberry hub still function in classic or bb10? i mean now June 2020. Appreciate your answer sir. Thanks!!!'
Yes it does. Works just fine.
TechOdyssey thanks a lot!☺️
Unpopular opinion lol, but I never particularly liked the Classic for several reasons ;I definitely preferred my Bold 9900. My favorite BB10 device (Never had a chance at the Passport.) was the Q5, followed by the Q10. They were a bit fragile though (Q5 and Q10) ; both perished from accidents that they should have survived.
I've dreamed of using the phone from Black Berry since high school. Is it possible to buy and use it in 2020, even in Japan..?
I just stopped using it yesterday. And here is a recommendation to watch your review again)
Many of my colleagues still use the BlackBerry Classic.
The clock of BB10 ❤️❤️❤️
Yup. It was soooo good.
Use to love it in bedtime mode! And I wish Apple would just steal the alarm clock design already 😜
this man is fine
Thanks
I have one on Verizon, too bad they are turning off 3G end of this year. It will be a sad moment . But wait, in your video you just stated that it has LTE but is that for data only? Verizon engineer told me it is 3g and I have till end of 2020. Was he wrong?
I searched and seemed to find that this phone is 3g with some exceptions, "The Blackberry Classic holds connectivity features like 3G, 4G LTE (selected markets)". I wonder what do they mean by "selected markets"?
Should I trade my BlackBerry classic for an iphone 7 with 87 percent battery health?
If you can't replace the battery, what is the life of this phone's integrated battery?
I love the trackpad
