    Hi KFG, recently came across your channel and immediately became your subscriber. Grew up with kung fu movies too. Here's a suggestion about a possible wing chun topic - the movie IP Man 3 where the final battle between IP Man and Zhang Tian Zhi, two wing Chun masters.

    Hello KFG. I have been training for 42 years now without any big lay offs. I remember when I first started training, I went to a Wing Chun club in north London which had a good reputation but when I got there One of the instructors was exactly like the man you were talking about where he would go full force when it was his turn to attack during training, I saw him concuss people, and he even broke some noses and cause injuries to peoples eyes, Being new, I thought this was the way people trained, It wasnt until later that i learnt he was just a bully, and had been told to leave by the master of the school.

      @sicilienz 4 месяца назад +1

      I have been i think to the same club than you. it was in 2015 and one of my friend invited me at this wc club for 1 session, there was a small chinese guy who was bruising often people and was kick out 2 months later. My friend told me she complained with other people and the master kicked him out. Probably the same club in london than yours.

    Hopefully it is possible to disagree with you without being taken as disagreeable. The purpose of a sincere debate is for both parties to come closer to truth. Regarding tensing the Lats, some people, especially beginners, raise their shoulder when they punch. Maintaining tonus in the latissimus dorsi and pectoralis major adducts the humerus from the anterior and posterior simultaneously, lowering and stabilizing the shoulder joint. If this does not by itself increase punching power (I agree it doesn't by itself), it at least reduces risk of injury to the shoulder joint and allows transfer of power from the legs, core and waist to the arm. This may be why the person who asked the question felt tensing the lat increased his punching power.

    • @TheKungFuGenius
      @TheKungFuGenius  4 месяца назад +4

      I would totally agree with you, keeping the shoulders down, and the elbow in the correct position is a huge function of the lats. The problem is in the word tensing, as I would prefer stabilization. If the point is the transfer power, and we were to use throwing as an example, it would be completely counterproductive to tense your lat while simultaneously trying to throw a ball as far as you could. To use just the right amount of stabilization for good body mechanics makes sense, but tensing or squeezing the piss out of a muscle is in fact problematic for athletic performance.

      Just a random fellow here who doesn't practice Eng Choon.
      Based on my current level of understanding... I think that student might have gained some regional structure stability through tension in that area, but the optimal outcome is integration all the way to the ground so he would eventually have to get over his reliance on tension to get a proper unity of motion through a harmonised integration.

      @@TheKungFuGenius Yes, these words like "tensing"and "relaxation" are problematic. That's why I used the word tonus instead of tense. The antidote, "Song" is always translated as relax, but then you feel the shifu telling you that and he is not, exactly. The tendons are tense but the muscles relaxed, which doesn't even make sense according to Western Physiology and Kinesiology. btw, it was Dan Inosanto who said Bruce Lee got into bodybuilding because of James Yim Lee, who trained with Jack Lalanne, Steve Reeves, & other 1st generation bodybuilders. I hadn't read the book for 35 + years but it's in JKD:The Art & Philosophy of Bruce Lee: Dan Inosanto: pgs.42, 72. I checked to make sure my memory wasn't faulty.

(I said they on purpose) 😂🙌😎quality over quantity for me. As far as GREG DUECET. I saw he had a fantastic physique and all that but his advice isn’t bad. I do however have an issue with him supporting steroid use. On the one hand he banishes anybody he hears is dirty, but then acts like there’s a civilized way of using them. 😂LOL. I’m serious. I heard him say something about the LIVER KING, yet he was basically saying test and growth hormone were ok.
