    Makes perfect sense... Now what to do at the end of the season when you're saving seeds for next spring... Take ripe tomatoes and simply put them in the freezer all winter? I'll try that this time.

    I saw this idea on another channel weeks back. I figured what the heck, lets try. I just transplanted a bunch of them this evening to pots. The real question will be if the originals were a F1 variety as to whether the F2 will be fruitful.
    Funny thing is do the math. The tomato as a seed source is worth more than something you would eat!

    Really want to stick with heirloom varietals of you might end up with fruit that even humanized mice would turn their noses up from and squeak "Yee-uk" - Not that I would admit to firsthand experience of such an amateur gardening blunder or anything...

      Here in texas I can do that. There are essentially 2 seasons here. My seeds for the second planting can be from tomatoes of the first planting started from seed. The harvest dates overlap planting the second crop.
