    these make me so nostalgic. I remember being a little girl hovering over my box tv with quiet volume so my parents didn’t wake up. i used to dream of being on of these swimmers. the sound of the cheering, the announcer, that noise they hear before they hit the water. nothing matches it. i don’t aspire to be a swimmer anymore but i love watching these, specifically 2008 because of the nostalgia..

    Their stroke is so powerful that they move both almost instantly and glide for a breath. Only works if you have shoulders like that though, everyone else should stick to 3 breaths

    if you expected him to swim as fast without the suit as he swam with it - you probably were the only one. Noone expected that this would be possible. of course you can say that he was "nowhere" afterwards, but then you have to admit that he shares that "nowhere" with phelps and co because - umm - they all were pretty equal since then and they are pretty equal right now.

    siangham, he broke countless world records, and won countless gold medals. allow me to point out that beating records means he second to no other swimmer. not thorpe, or anyone else. you compare him to himself years ago without considering the training and improvements he's made to his ability. phelps in undoubtedly the best whether you like it or not. he won golds he got records. that, my friend, is the end.

  • @bzach71

    Agree. In my country (Asia-Oceania) we get good commentators during the Olympics swimming which include Anthony Mosse from New Zealand (ex-200m butterflyer). Very neutral. Eurosport is good as well. This i think is a local american sportsnews, so its fair to be biased...just like any otehr local sportnews..they will always be biased and skewed to their own side.

  • @mc1703

    his opening leg on the 4*100 relay was 47.51 which ranks him 3rd all time (behind sullivan and bernard) in the individual event - one he does not compete in internationally.

    I do not think Phelps will ever swim a 200m freestyle this fast again.

  • @bzach71
    @bzach71 16 лет назад

    The underwater dolphin kick revolutionised swimming into a new hright. I think Phelsp and COughlin (in female) are the best underwater kickers. Its folly for other swimmers to NOT train this new method. Laszlo Cseh did this in 200butterfly and see how fast he went (1;52 compared to 1:57 last time). Swimmers must now concentrate on their underwater kick now to get close (not necessarily beat) to Phelps.

    where is Biedermann? mmh, just 0.09 s (=close) behind Phelps and 0.44s behind Lochte and if the race would have been just a little longer he would at least have caught Phelps (his last lane was second fastest of the whole field - apart from Park) - you can see how much he came up on the last lane: at 40 m to go Lochte was leading by a body length compared to Biedermann. Besides, in an interview before the race, Bowman said, Michael was in very good shape.

  • @jammerakwaii
    @jammerakwaii 13 лет назад

    @cartmansuperstar Well, Phelps still managed to win individual gold medals from this month's World Championship for both 100 and 200 fly. And the race between him and Lochte in 200 Free was close and to think Phelps is not yet on top condition. If Beiderman is that good, where is he now? Let's face it, Beiderman was only a threat when he had that suit. Period.

    @cartmansuperstar If Beiderman starts winning 8 Olympic Gold medals then let's continue this conversation. LOL. Face it Beiderman managed to break that WR because of the suit. Look what happened to this race, he WAS NOWHERE, until he had that suit. Phelps managed to win both the 100 and 200 FLY without the suit at this month's World Championship. Of course Bowman will say that, as no excuses for them if he doesn't do well.

    @jammerakwaii
    didn´t doubt that he broke the world record due to the suit. and didn´t doubt that phelps is the more complete and successful swimmer. I´m just tired of that biedermann-bashing, saying he is a "nobody". In the 200 free he´s swimming at the same level as phelps right now - be it, because Phelps is exhausted for competing in many other events or not -we don´t know. Besides if Phelps wants to be able to win gold in 8 different events, he has to take that into account.
