There is a genuine epidemic of spitfire + cloak/A-wall mains popping up. I consistently get one rat in particular (looking at you, FatZeus, you PoS LMAO) that I've never seen run anything else apart from cloak, spitfire w/ threat scope, grav-star / elec-smoke, smart pistol and Tone / Legion. Its spread to where I find games where entire teams run spitfire and cloak/a-wall. I'm not upset about it skill wise because I can still rock their shit with a soft ball and arc grenades, but what irks me is how they could ever find camping to such an insane degree in a movement shooter fun? They do it so much and so aggressively that it kind of derails the enjoyment from that particular match. Especially when you get a perfect stim and double frag boost to jet across the map only to get swiss cheesed by 3 campers with spitfires, smacked by a Ronins stupid melee range or a Legions smart core. Kind of a depressing match when you get opponents that play like this tbh, but having one on each team is fine honestly, since they get distracted from camping and will make it their mission to counter camp each other XD

I cannot imagine using A-wall against pilots. However, I think A-wall is pretty fun to use to mess with titans. A titan will not expect a puny pilot to stand their ground and deal signifficant damage while staying still. They if they are a Northstar or a Tone (sometimes monarchs and ions as well) will ALWAYS get stubborn and focus on you. You can get a good amount of charge rifle shots at them before they break the shield, just make sure to throw an arc grenade in their face so they don't see where you run off to. By this point they will already have gotten closer, so abusing the low profile perk I usually just go back out from cover the moment they give up trying to find me out in the open and rodeo them to make them really rage. Having the SMR as the primary, I do get completely stomped by pilots. My best strategy is to avoid them. I don't care. My aim is to make the titans' life hell XD. It's my go-to loadout for when our team is behind and the enemy has more than 3 titans deployed and I still do not have mine.
This is a sentiment I can agree with! I tend to carry the RE-45 as a sidearm to deal with pilots (cause I am too dog water to use the wingman in this game) And that gets me by most of the time if I engage them.
Can confirm, I had an A-wall spitfire rat shoot at me and drain my vortex shield, then teabag when I looked at him. Best solo laser core I've ever used.
A-Wall pilots were just added as a skillcheck imo. It forces you to either try a new strategy and fight differently, or die. Killing A-wall pilots is remarkably easy since this is the best movement game that I've ever seen, but so many people would rather just run at them head on and then complain about them, and then have the audacity to say the A-wall is the one who should change (instead of, yknow, countering, or just having fun instead of being a tryhard) I don't use A-wall, it sucks, I also have no problem killing A-wall pilots as long as I dont blindly run head on into it. Even then you can just chuck a nade with a slight cook and call it a day. Am I missing something? It's the same logic as calling people campers in other games (minus spawncampers, they suck), They arent camping, they're monitoring a target rich environment. One that happens to be target rich because people keep going back there to kill the camper with the same strategies. Pilots wouldnt use A-wall if people didnt just run at them blindly all the time trying to shoot down the shield.
11:11 I would’ve made the shield function like Volt’s from warfare, where you can pick the shield up and have it stick to the front of your view model, but maybe have it do less damage in that mode and certainly have a smaller size, and then you can place the shield down to be what it is currently so teammates etc can use it. Adds player choice and freedom and multi functionality, while still providing a kit for the A-walls current very niche use
Jokes aside, yeah A-Wall is really good in FD (and also LTS) especially in Master difficulty due to how quickly you can die But my main criticism with that ability is that it takes too long to reload, and that had to be balanced with a longer duration. Honestly, a 5s duration with a 15s cooldown that starts when you place your wall would solve the camping issues
When i got A-wall i saw that the pilot had a large tertiary arm and assumed the "wall" you be something that would appear infront of me from the arm and allow me to move, like some of the IMC enemies in the Campaign Then my pilot dropped a front facing Gibraltar shield and my hope died. Why does he have a robot arm on his shoulder for no reason lol
I would probably re work the pilot to have the shield not stationary but literally in front of him/her. You know, kinda like the shield grunts uses in higher difficulties of Frontier Defense, something like that, kinda like a Riot shield that you can move and shout trough. This change would encourage the pilot to still moving and seek direct combat to other piltos since the shield gives you a slight advantage in a 1v1 scenary, i would mantain the damage amplification and reduce the health and duration of the shield tho, but i think it would be to much, since the shield would cover pretty much everything that matter, like the head and body, but leave the toes pretty much exposed, so enemy piltos would try to think a better aproach to a A-Shield pilot, like flanking from above, trying to aim to the vulnerable parts, spitting all their ammo to try to break the shield and then relying on your teammates to kill him or using your teammates to distract him while you flank, etc. I think it would be a nice rework
one of my core memories from titanfall 2 - i was being locked onto by a smart pistol, spun around, dropped an a-wall between me and them. broke the lock. dude just stopped moving and stared at me. fucking priceless
Personally, I think A-wall would be better if it was more like the shields grunts use in frontier defense. The shield would be small but still cover the player, wouldn't last long, but it would make for great run-and-gun plays. Enemy pilots could still melee through it, use splash damage weapons, and talented pilots could still make great use out of it.
Honestly a-wall was a questionable choice for the developers if the whole thing for pilots is to keep moving. I think a-wall should have worked in some way similar to a ballistic shield or it should’ve had a smaller cooldown so the pilot could reposition in battle.
I am not much of an A-Wall main, but I use the pilot because it looks cool. Plus, I use the wall as a side cover or enough to block bullets while recovering.
Is this video on the spitfire or the A-wall? I can't tell, lol. Fantastic video. I use A-wall a little bit, and how I use it is drastically different from an A-wall main. The loadout I use with scorch happens to be a-wall/spitfire, but I rarely use them together. I mostly use a-wall with the MGL whenever I'm fighting titans without my own.

Not sure how well it'd go down with the current A-Wall lot, but you could try replacing the shitty little Tone shield with a shitty little Ion sheild. I reckon it'd gel better with the more dynamic pilot gameplay. (Hell if it wasn't for Northstar I'd suggest just having it be a shitty little version of whatever titan you're using's defensive ability; if I ever got hit by a tether mine thingy as a pilot I suspect I'd be, shall we say, "somewhat upset")
what if you could press the button again to make it explode so you can do a grav star esque boost. That way you wouldnt be waiting on such a long cooldown and it would promote movement. Also, let it stick to walls so you can use wallhang with it. Maybe mid air too for hover? but that might be pushing too far. Imagine how sick it would be to toss an a wall, on a wall, blast somebody, then boost off said wall using the explosion. Badass.
As the only respectable A-wall spitfire main, allow me to tell you my secrets. Gunrunner (aka the worst mod in the game, unless you’re using lmgs). And not camping. It’s really not that hard. A-wall is a good mind game/counter chase tool.
If only they had changed it to that, A-wall was a risk reward pilot, maybe it could have put a mobile A-wall attached to the front of your character, and it just amplified any bullets that go through it, even hostile. which would also still work with the term "Amplifier wall"
I feel like the A-Wall could be improved if they lowered the duration AND cooldown, to promote more of a 'touch & go' playstyle. They bunker down for a few moments before repositioning, rather than just camping in one spot for an extended amount of time.
