    There is just something magical about the original that's so hard to replicate. Not only the sound selection but also something in the mixing that makes it special and inimitable. The saturation and compression add a lot. Musically, its pretty dead simple....the drum pattern, the synth parts...but there is this x-factor to Kavinsky's music that is entirely his own and hard to copy.

    • @OscarUnderdog
      @OscarUnderdog  2 года назад +7

      Agreed, the mixdown is very clean and powerful in the original, hard to imitate!

    Just to mention for the penniless like me: I explored a bit on the Surrealistic MG-1 Plus Synthesizer then using the DCO-106. I obtained the same kinds of sounds for, respectively, free and 25$. Pretty sure there are other VSTs emulating the Juno cheaper than the Roland VST JUNO-60 synth ;)

    Nice tutorial, great reconstruction, clear as always (best channel on producing!) and Juriji added a nice androgyne texture to the vocals that makes them sounding quite better than original.
    Great job you both did. Will you do a "long" cut? Quite fast, a lot of steps still missing and filming a bit of your interactions with Juriji would have been interesting (how you adjusted, discussion to find the right tone, etc.).

    • @OscarUnderdog

      For this particular one I don't plan to do a longer version, but I'll be experimenting with different balances of behind-the-scenes content vs. educational content vs. entertainment content for sure!
      For the vocal discussion, yes, we decided to explore this slightly lower register as it felt more intimate/vulnerable :)

    This is probably my favourite way of learning: looking how other people just do their stuff. However I'd like to ask about this layering... I actually don't know what haha. I supose you layered few synths on top of each other within the same scale? Or is it the same synth with different notes length? I've done something similar several times in my projects but the effects are really different, sometimes it sounds just right, sometimes it hurts your ears. So maybe there are some advices you could give about layering few melodies/instruments/time lengths? If yes, I'd love to hear, take care Oscrar. You're doing incredibly good job!

    • @OscarUnderdog
      @OscarUnderdog  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for your kind words! I'd recommend to think rather in terms of musical functions: Bass, pad, lead, and then ensure that the mix focus is on the right elements. At any given moment there are max 3 synths playing here, so no need to endlessly layer :)

    • @OscarUnderdog
      @OscarUnderdog  2 года назад +1

      Heya :D
      1) Once I had the notes, I flicked through presets until I got relatively close, then tweaked the controls to get it as exact as possible. The mixdown made a big difference too, to make it feel substantial and chunky. A lot of A/B testing!
      2) The video effects are those built into Da Vinci Resolve. I can't recommend that programme enough :) never going back to Adobe Premiere after discovering that...
