Very cool man! That is one of the perks that comes from owning a music store...you can grab all of the good stuff and Hide it!! There was a store near where I live,that did that very thing.There were more classic Gibson's in their basement than you can imagine.
I have one of the normal ones and that is awesome enough. This one is even more awesome!!!
I bet there are guys who would pay unreal price for that just because it's the #2 second only to Slash's personal copy of that amp and, on top of that all, it's one of the best sounding Marshalls ever. That's one amp to die for.
Definitely, you'll need it in 30 watt mode though. If your using an SSS Strat the gain needs to be pretty high to get a decent amount of sustain but since gigging volume is usually above 10 o'clock, i think u could back it off a bit because the power tubes are opening up at this volume which help to give a bit more juice. Hope that helps :)
Oh OK. I was wondering why I saw a head for $1995 and on another site in the States it was 2499 US. That must have been the version like you unboxed. :-) There is a small US company that hand builds their amps called Splawn. Their Quick Rod version sounds just like a Marshall Modded Plexi, and a JCM-800, then a Modded 800 head. Wonderfully built amps.
amps are meant to be played not stored, but its much appricated you opening it up for us andertons is the best :D

@EeeAreEyeKay I doubt that - maybe the regular one, but not the super limited edition one - they would have sold for $4000+ when new.

i really like it except on low volumes that sounds very bad, but when is loud is awsome
I went to PMT in Birmingham Sunday just gone and they have got this amp at number 20 for £2,800... so tempted haha
You forgot that it's also handwired. And the answer is yes, it is worth the extra money. Because it will be highly collectible not that long in the future and will fetch far more than what one paid for it.
I hope that when you finally play it, Gibson loan you a vault-safe version of their Slash Les Paul limited edition, so that you can get as close as possible to the sound of the man himself.

I have this amp. I play it all the time. I have a silver jubilee and a jvm410h too. But this is my go to amp. It’s the best sounding Marshall ever made. It’s made to be played so rock the fuck out of it

Its nice, but I don't know if those are meant to be played to collected? It would appear to be a collection piece from all the chrome all over it, the second it starts getting good and hot regularly I feel the signature and that chrome would be the first to look funky.

I think that's the case with most tube amps. You gotta have them loud to get the best tone, i always get told to turn it down even when it's running on 7 watts. :\
I only wish there was a store anywhere near me (Central Virginia) where 60 of any decent amps were on display and for sale, let alone purchasing power for 60 AFD's. Am I going to have to go all the way to England to demo, select and purchase a boutique or major manufacturer's high end amp? Too much Guitar Center and Sam Ashe!

Yep, you should play it at least once to see that all works fine. I know Marshall would never send out a defective product, especially to The Capt. and numbered #2. ;-) Seriously, so there is no difference in this one you unboxed and the "Slash" AFD you can find at Musicians Friend or Sweetwater for example? That is an AWESOME collectors amp.

@willeng84 who cares if its collectable an amp is an amp its meant to be played, not only that its better to play it for a while so the valves are used to heating up and cooling down so u can get that nice perfect afd sound :)

I heard the word handwired mentioned. Is the regular version that us Minions can buy Handwired or is it a PCB? Another question, why did Marshall stop production of the JCM2000 DSL Head? I heard it was very popular.

Beautiful amp. I'm glad Slash signed it, that will hopefully bring the price down a bit. With the right solvent you could buy the amp, rub off his signature and increase the value of the amp in about 10 minutes.

+David Evans well it would clearly increase the value of the amp, especially because of the fact that he is a well known and well respected guitarist.
I'm not a huge fan of Slash. And I'm also not a huge fan of artist signed stuff. I'm going to assume you are being facetious and aren't actually THAT ignorant.

As for the standard AFD100, I don't understand the point of buying someone else's signature amp, when most of the tone is/was in the person's fingers. I could use the same equipment that Chappers was using to record Bleed The Light, but there's no way in hell I could figure out all of his subtle nuances that make the tone sound exactly as he does. Besides, Slash could probably find his tone using a JCM900, DSL, TSL, etc...
THIS amp, however, is a collector's item for the ultimate Slash fan.

anywhere anyone is playing a Marshall Silver Jubilee series amp.. this is essentially the same thing,, Silver Jubilees are basically a vamped JCM800 series head..

Clifford S I prefer Superleads personally but Silver Jubilee's are definitely the last of the truly great Marshall circuits > IMHO of course.
