The only new content here is floater, floatato and grappling hook, the rest is just a reskin or doable using datapacks.
The actual new content is probably being tested here with no restriction for some community feedback, so they can maybe polish it and add it later if it fits the game and if it works good enough.
it would be good if they put this much effort into all the actual updates they release
1.21 has a lot of effort into it.
They spend a year planning and coding April 1st update and only take a day to create actual update
They need somethng big to do instead of the slow dribble so they can get motivated again.

A point that people seems to forget is first the facts that this updapte only come to Java édition so easier to make

Honestly most of mobs blocks structures and biomes are all just retextured from preexisting mobs blocks structures and biomes and the original content that is actually in this update needs some play testing and bug fixing

Notice the floating islands, new terrain generation, and the grappler thing. These make me think of things that would fit in a new end dimension. I think we will see certain aspects of the potato dimension (esp the grappler and new wood variants) reskinned in the rumored End update.

You are missing a huge detail. You said it was an update, making some people think they simply need to start the minecraft launcher. This is not a full release but a snapshot. People need to turn this on manually and find the specific one with "potato" in the name.

You can say that, but why can't we appreciate that they did something fun just for us every year, uts better than nothing
people are saying this update is just a way to show off how they can actually make huge updates but they dont add them because they dont fit into the game. Aether fits into the game since its mod release and we still didnt get it. The reality is minecraft developers as any other mainstream developer just dont know what players actually want.
I have to say that this joke update was more interesting than many of the real updates that the game has received.
