I used to LOVE the Candymare, until she became ridiculously OP to the point where basically nothing could bring her down. The ending to the most recent installment involves her deciding to take over Heaven after ripping Hell a new one…and I’m not kidding!
its all just opinions, but frankly that makes it better for me- After all, its a love letter to horror franchises. Jason, Freddy, and Pinhead all had trips to Hell at one point or another.
My opinion and what I know from only hearing one installment of the candymare She's made of candy Just literally eat her and no one would have to deal with her
The term "fillyfooler" is actually used quite a lot in fanfics. It even has a counterpart for males which is "colt-coddler". Idk why these exist or who came up with them but they exist, so yeah
@@gemwolfz2860 funny enough, more often than not i see it NOT used as a slur- just a blanket statement. The groups for lgbt stories on fimfic are often called 'coltcuddlers' or something along those lines. Some writers just wanna be edgy.
Minkie Pie from Muffins existence is really interesting. The creator made her because the fact Pinkie had a third sibling had been revealed in the books but Maud hadn’t made an appearance in the show yet. She wanted to feature all of Pinkie’s sisters in the story so she had to make her own, very much a ‘this could only have happened at this specific point in time’ thing. I’d also like to note that Minkie is technically her middle name, her first is Obsidian. The creator wanted to feature the sisters fan names (Inkie for Marble, Blinkie for Limestone) in the story, and for Minkie to fit in she had to make one that fit the theme with the others.
Isn't the whole point that there's supposed to be an odd one out, though? Inky Blinky Pinky *Clyde* It'd be funny if she just had like some regular human name like "Beth".
@@whichcache2517 I do think that would’ve been funnier, but I guess she just wanted them to be more cohesive. She does point out in her video discussing Minkie that following the Pac Man naming Maud would be Clyde so she is aware of the reference at least.
Minkie is also sort of a self insert of the author herself, as well as written as a way for the author to cope. Kinda sad that the author herself is kinda a terrible person but aye.. the series is cool But reitanna is a groomer lier and manipulator sooo.. yeah..
@@whichcache2517 Idk what happened with the Bride Of Discord author, but with this person, wellll...she's not exactly the nicest person. I've had personal experience with her and she acts like a Karen. What's fucked up tho is that people have accused her of being a pedo in the past due to some of the things she's written about (for example: she has a Harry x Draco fic where they fuck and they're 15, and she has a character named Lonnie who first starting getting sexual urges as a newborn and owns a teddy bear that he rubs against) and she tried to take her life in September due to rumors.
My favorite creepypasta is “Silent Ponyville”. It’s about Fluttershy trying to get rid of her nightmares and it’s psychological horror, but it has some of this typical “scary deformed monsters” type of stuff. It also has a lonely, abandoned and slightly post-apocalyptic feeling, which definitely gets a few points from me for this
i downloaded all of silent ponyville onto my kindle in 6th grade to read during silent reading time bc it was my favorite thing in the whole world lmao
@@justmilkcat6274 Hey no problem. I actually listened to both of the audio readings for the first time recently, but I started with 2 and it felt like I was missing some minor context.
I think my favorite one from Cupcakes was actually the "what if" one. There was one where Pinkie did mostly everything except the cupcake part because she works for Celestia to keep the peace. She picks a number, culls off ponies and gives the meat to Equestria's neighbors And these are towards ponies that committed crimes against others that aren't forgivable. I thought that was pretty cool. Would've been even cooler if they incorporated Rainbow Factory and instead, *that* was why RD was killed. Because of her crimes in the factory..
that would be a major plothole though celestia knows about the rainbow factory. she gave the pegasi the job of rainbows after she began to have too much work on her hooves.
@@apossum6231 technically, all that would be needed to fix the plothole would be for her to use Pinkie to quietly remove the trash. It's not like it was well known what the factory did, as even the fillies walking in didn't know originally. She could have used her to kill RD to help eradicate the Rainbow Factory entirely. She *did* end it in the sequel. (Or potentially make the factory appear as something that Cloudsdale did in secret to create the best Rainbows, while removing the bad fliers,to the outside world. Celestia, not wanting the extent of her knowledge on it known, kills the majority of privately and does something more public to keep her image better)
I really like the atmosphere in Apple Sleep Experiment. From the raging heatwave taking it's toll on everybody, to the crippling debt of the Apple Family, Applejack's horrific injury, it all kinda just forms a misery cocktail that works better than you'd expect it to and makes the story more compelling than it otherwise would be. Would love to see the audio drama "Friendship Is Tragic" covered sometime too, but I would also understand not wanting to since it's several episodes long and has a sequel with it's own set of episodes, but it's also really interesting and unique and worth looking into even just for your own enjoyment. Anyways sorry for the long ass comment, video was wonderful as always!!
Not gonna add this to the main comment as to make it even longer but I completely forgot to mention that omg yes absolutely go check out TheLostNarrator as Shunks says in the video, there are so many great horror narrations on there (and even a few really cute romance fic ones that aren't horror)
In the Apple sleep experiment, I wasn’t sure if Apple Jack or Twilight was telling the real story in the end. I wasn’t sure if everything Apple Jack thought happened actually happened or if it was just an illusion made up by her head due to lack of sleep. Hearing that Twilight put the blame on Apple Jack and pretended that she didn’t do anything is jarring to me since, for me, she wouldn’t do something like that. She would take the blame for her actions and feel horrible for accidentally turning her friend into a monster
That’s sort of what I was thinking when I listened to a reading of it, but I didn’t know for sure. I was shocked and it made me question if I had been mischaracterizing Twilight the whole time: “Wait, WOULD she do this? Legit? She wouldn’t, would she?”
@@justin2308she definitely would take the blame, speaking she instantly regretted enchanting a doll and making the town go nuts (and TRIED fixing her mistake), she tried to take blame for Discord messing around in the Equestria ball-thing (and those are two that come to mind from the series).
I thought I was the only one who didn’t understand the hype around The Elements Of Insanity. The way you described it as just a bunch of “noise” is perfect to describe the way I felt about it.
I remember watching it as a kid and being so confused that I just turned it off and watched something else. I had no idea what TF2 Freaks was but they’d show up in a lot of videos I found, and I was also puzzled by the designs of the mane six - how Fluttershy is wearing what looks like the Cat in the Hat’s hat and Applejack having brown hair.
does anyone remember an mlp creepypasta called “half-baked suncakes”? i think it was a lost episode story about twilight hallucinating the entire population of ponyville, it really stuck with me for some reason
I have a lot of memories of binge watching the Muffins readings on RUclips. The fact Pinkie literally had a sister called "Minkie" that was locked away in a basement or something is incredibly morbidly funny to me lmao.
@@MidnightMuffin i think its just the fact its mlp-its like how people mock sonic.exe for taking x(sonic exe himself) so seriously when its just sonic but with creepy eyes-it just kinda gets silly at some point since its just a kids media
@@Man-wolf- I guess you're right in a way, but I feel like people of all ages can enjoy Sonic and MLP. I mean, I remember there being an MLP episode filled to the brim with jokes and headcanons from the fandom.
Wait, you're telling me that at the end of Apple Sleep Experiment it's Twilight who lies about giving Apple Jack the potion ? I always interpreted as AJ being brought back to reality, that she never was given a potion in the first place, that she forced herself to stay awake and got crazy on her own, and that the potion thing was just a false memory created by her delirium.
thought it was pretty clear that twilight was shifting the blame wholesale onto applejack to cover for herself, iirc even a line or two hinting that twilight didn't want to seem responsible for the potion because it would mean she'd be locked away too
The Apple Sleep experiment is probably my favorite MLP creepypasta, there's just something inherently horrifying about not being able to gain any rest and due to your brain working 24/7 your brain cells start to die out
I remember my favorite MLP creepypasta was Half Baked Suncakes. Basically it was a lost episode creepypasta where a brony is watching mlp late night and finds an unaired episode about Twilight trying to make the title snack, only to find that they went missing and she needs to find them. However as the narrator notes the strange thing about the episode is that Twilight is the only character shown and spike is replaced with a plushie. There’s scenes where she “interacts” with ponies, but none are actually shown. The ending implies that Twilight’s the last pony in the world and everything is her imagination. Not the best, but I like it better than most lost episode creepypastas that just cover a character with blood. There was another I remember fondly called the Cymbal Dragon. This one involves Pinkie getting Fluttershy a wind-up dragon with cymbals for her birthday. But oops, turns out the thing is cursed to kill someone nearby when the cymbals clang.
@@lillyanaduff3864it's actually based on a Steven King horror short with a similar name The Monkey. Originally published in a sci-fi magazine but rewritten for Skeleton Crew in 1985
Edit: sorry this was meant to be a follow-up to one of my replies. And also referencing both the dragon cymbal and the FNAF spin off by sighting the origin. The plot is nearly the exact same. Two brothers find a wind up toy monkey that's cursed to kill anyone near who winds it. Except it eventually starts going off on its own, And the story splits between two perspectives and ends on a cliffhanger Despite King's weirdness and story beats that are genuinely worthy of heavy criticism the dude wrote some interesting ideas that shaped the horror landscape. Apparently influencing fanfic parodies
A Puppet to Her Fame is such a good story. The audio read was super good if a tiny bit cheesy at times, but the cast had fun. I listened to it while painting or sculpting in school and it was honestly one of the best stories I've ever listened to.
There's a ton of ponypastas I love, but the Candymare sage always stuck with me. The fact they made *candy* scary? Fuck yeah. The times where the good guys did the big friendship and should win the day, only to have the rug pulled that they just gave the Candymare exactly what she wanted? I loved that shit. And while I'm not really a Sunset Shimmer stan, I liked seeing her completly alone in not just a world, but an implied MULTIVERSE completely devoid of life. Only her, and the unstoppable mass of candy. And sure, she finally wins in the end, but those worlds aren't going to be suddenly back to normal. Every pony is dead. Every single one. And her being blamed for the human highschool stuff is a little weird given humans definitly have things like security cameras, but still such a grim ending. Also huge shout out to Silent Ponyville. Such a cool series, and what actually got me into the real Silent Hill 2 game and lore aha
@@nameynamd9212 the multiverse? Sure So essentially there was a universe where Candy killed discord and as shown in the candy cult she can essentially make them to be her loyal followers against their will and she saw discord as an important asset for her goal So she turned him into one of these followers and made him use his chaos magic (which can canonically make and bind universes) to basically stitch the universes she conquers together and make it a part of her original universe that she now calls the candy verse If you wanna know how she goes through universes In the sequel of the first we find out that she kidnapped Luna and had been prepping her so that when the time came she could take over her body and steal her power Turns out that in this universe Luna had a power unbeknownst to her and Celestia Everyone from every universe human or pony is connected by dreams and Luna is the only one with the power to access those dreams until candy absorbs her power and leaves her to die and goes on to take over rainbow dashes body She can manifest her body in their dreams and then eventually the world that the dreamer is in And she just does that for presumably thousands of worlds
The Candymare fic was genuinely terrifying when I first read it, the bit where she stalks Applejack was so tense and I loved the disgust horror when the townsfolk eat the blood covered candy.
Oh Rocket To Insanity sounds like EXACTLY my shit. Weirdly dramatic and raw fancomics for children's media or stuff you wouldn't otherwise expect that sorta thing for, complete with philosophical debates and hours long comic dubs? Sign me up
I listened to Fluttersmooze and the ending really intrigued me. The one who was supposed to be in the suit was found in a closet with her nails gone because of her scratching at the door and with writing on the walls saying "why are there so many fluttershys" or something along that line and I always wanted to know more on that specific story
Honestly surprised you didn't mention Pegasus Device. It's an official sequel to Rainbow factory and spawned probably the most well known Fandom form character of Absentia (also has a banger song)
Some don’t really hold up that well, but I’d argue some of them hold up. The Apple sleep experiment is a good one. I like that it’s more psychological even though there’s plenty of gore. I remember when just seeing the thumbnail for that video would wig me out
I was a little saddened when you didn't mention the 2 cannon sequels to rainbow factory, pegasus device and pegasus device: reckoning. I've only read the first one but I still feel that these stories need a little more recognition.
Out of all of these, the only ones I've read/listened to are "An Apple Sleep Experiment", "Why I stopped Watching My Little Pony", and "The My Little Pony Ride". And in my opinion, An Apple Sleep Experiment is REALLY good. Maybe my favorite MLP creepypasta. The ending with Twilight was just amazing. I did NOT see it coming. (They really didn't need to keep the monologue at the end though. They could have cut that.)
There's actually a sequel to Something sweet to Bite! It's Christmas themed instead. From what I've read and heard? The first story only exists because the author was recovering from a really nasty spider bite. 😭
The second one was horrifying! (Edit the second one is not Christmas themed. It’s about Rainbow dash a year after the events of the first and it hasn’t been made into an audio drama) I didn’t even really read past the third because well, spoiler warning in case you decide to read them. I won’t spoil them just the premise, if that makes sense. The Candymare is wayyyy to OP. There is no hope. No world or hell is safe. There is multiple alternative universes in this one if I remember correctly.
One thing I wanted to point out: Filly-fooler wasn't a term specific to the mentioned comic. It was commonplace on fanfics back in the day. It (and its' counterpart, colt-coddlers/cuddlers) also weren't usually used as a slur. But, man, it's really been more than a year since I've started watching this channel now. Time flies!
One of my favorite MLP creepypastas is "REC [0]" It's a story about a recording of Screw Loose, that one crazy pony from the asylum having a manic episode about some creatures or entities that she started seeing out of the corner of her eye. The recording is basically a warning about these "Entities" from her. I think it really works because it never actually reveals WHAT those things actually are, we only get Screw Looses mad ramblings. Coupled with the fact that Screw Loose is labeled as crazy it really makes you think if what she saw WAS real or if it was just insane nonsense. I'm a sucker for ambiguity (The Thing 1982) is my favorite film of all time, and the story really fit that tone.
I also remember this one comic/ask blog. It was called like vacational death cruise or something where; sweetie belle pisses herself, the crusaders meet slendermane and go "you're not bad even though you killed all those ponies, you were just lonely:)" and bald sweetie belle. I used to watch narrations of that comic religiously.
OH MY GOD I REMEMBER THAT 😭😭😭 that was my shit back then, along with moody mark crusaders (not really a creepypasta, but has dark themes) and story of the blanks
The backstory of muffins was that Inkie and Blinkie were being abused by their parents so they cut them up and cupcakesed them after they found out they'd been hiding Minkie in the basement. They've got like a wierd connection with Pinkie so they find out she's been doing the same thing and they're cool with it. I think Applebloom is just kinda cracked in the story so she's cool with it too. Babs iirc is being bullied so she kills her bullies with cyanide from apple seeds. Derpy however, I'm pretty sure she just goes along with it because Reitanna wrote her to be really childlike and just following what Pinkie is doing. She hella infantilises Derpy which, looking back now, highkey rubs me the wrong way ngl.
Reitanna then added Babs in because of her hair matching the Pies hair dos. And tbh all of the Pie kids were abused, it's just they all find out about the cupcake recipe and go with it. But Rei also says Babs Seed and Apple Bloom are ten in Muffins, Minkie and Derpy are child-coded so it feels like a lot of grooming in hindsight and one of the later stories has Pinkie mention she slit her own throat to force "inspire" Apple Bloom to kill Silver Spoon.
@@skull_scrimmage3953 It's somewhere in the QnA videos for her voice and the stereotype stuff I say, and for the hair it's in her art videos and the comments on DA. It's not an opinion, it's seeing Rei talk about the hair Babs has and compare it to the Pies herself.
My favorite MLP creepypasta is the Why I Stopped Watching MLP series. It starts out as a cliche "oooooo MLP but scary" but delves deeper until it basically becomes its own thing. My favorite of the series is Girl Next Door. It's a genuinely tragic tale of loss and grief.
I remember the friendship test! I’ve thought about this one a bit recently, I watched the same version when I was younger. I watched the movie Would you Rather a few years after, and realized that the friendship test was like. Basically the exact same story To The point where I could predict parts of the movie from the mlp fanfic lol Experienced a similar thing with a game grumps fanfic and the movie Orphan
Alright, I'm going to defend the Muffin Series a bit here. One thing that always fascinated me abou the series is that no matter how depraved the Bakers get, they have this strangely wholesome bond with each other. Reitanna does a really good job at creating dynamics between these characters so that we understand and sympathize with their struggles while simultaneously be sicken by what they do. Each Baker has faced some form of abuse or mistreatment at the hooves of others, yet are able to become a sort of found family.(Apple Bloom may be the only exception since its implied that Pinkie influenced her when she was younger instead of facing a particular hardship.) I'm not saying it's a perfect series per say, nothing is without flaws. But I believe that Muffins has some great qualities to its characters and stories.
Reitanna then added Babs in because of her hair matching the Pies hair dos. And tbh all of the Pie kids were abused, it's just they all have different reactions to the trauma. It's also complicated because Rei leaned on the Amish stereotype of four kids and abusive parents she does that a lot. But Rei also says Babs Seed and Apple Bloom are ten in Muffins, Minkie and Derpy are child-coded so it feels like a lot of grooming in hindsight and one of the later stories has Pinkie mention she slit her own throat to force "inspire" Apple Bloom to kill Diamond Tiara. It's a lot of grooming vibes to me. I also have read her responses to anyone else adding a new Baker being accepted and how angry she is about it. It's good found family but it's also not. Like obviously Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo could have joined but they're mercilessly killed and so are anyone else. Plus Rei's opinions on their sexualities and saying that none of the Bakers could ever love someone else without them being killed -especially the Pies- is super gross when you think about it. It's only okay if they choose who to add, otherwise they will kill them. Ick.
@@Topdoggie7 I do think the grooming aspect is intentional since Reitanna does refer to Pinkie as being a ‘master manipulator’ so the main problem with the portrayal to me is moreso how glorified it can come off. The relationship is very loving and familial and while it got there through Pinkie’s manipulation I didn’t often get the vibe the author really saw their relationship as explicitly a bad thing. I don’t know the authors intent though so I can’t say for certain. However I don’t think any grooming towards Minkie was intended, which does make me go hmm.
@@Topdoggie7 You definitely have some valid points there. Personally, I've thought Babs is an extremely underrated character with lots of potentials. So I am biased a little when I say that I enjoy her inclusion in the story. She does have a pretense for being part of the Bakers. She's been through constant abuse from bullies and the mental pressure turns her bitter and sadistic. Plus, I do think she contrasts nicely which Apple Bloom, who tends to be less intense than her cousin. The grooming element is there and the implications are revolting, but this is a series where the main characters brutally torture and murder ponies for their own amusement. Their victims react to Derpy and the fillies' involvement with disgust, so the story never treats it as a good thing. The Amish thing is a bit much at times. I've always seen it as an allegory for when religious folk become too prideful and unable to show kindness or empathy to even their own family. (It's not commentary that new by any means but it's still a prevalent issue.) Muffins isn't a story about good people. What I was saying in my first post was that this balancing act of making the audience care about the Bakers while never holding back how completely messed up they all have always been fascinating to me. That doesn't mean it's excused from criticism, however. The story is not for everyone, and it definitely has some problematic elements. As someone who enjoys creating fanfics, I do think it has good storytelling elements and character development. If Reitanna also wanted to use Muffins as a way to vent, that's a valid form of expression too, and I'll stand by that.
@@alisonwallace5619 It was a big vent in many ways as Minkie killing her parents is how Reitanna in over thirty videos and writings describes how she wants to kill and torture her mom. A lot of it later on is characters inserted and killed who represent RL people. But Rei is thirty now and likely if it continues it will be even more angry and brutal.
I remember reading some really gross and messed up MLP creepypastas when I was younger, but I don't recall the titles, just that one had a barrel of rats with a fire lit under it so the rats ate through a pony to escape the fire? It was pretty whack.
@@whiteasparagus4331 So it wasn't even an original idea? Man, and here I thought that author was an edgelord who somehow made up something uniquely messed up, but they were just ripping off the oldies! Honestly makes it less disturbing to know that it was derivative
aw man, i really love "a puppet to her fame"!! i even made fanart of it back in the day that was like, some of my most ambitious art ever at the time. i also REALLY liked elements of insanity at the time, even though i didn't have a damn clue what was going on
Personally, my all-time favorite Grimdark is the Silent Ponyville series. Now THOSE are great writing. They're dark, scary, and extremely psychological, in which ponies delve into the darkest recesses of their minds to overcome long-term trauma and find peace.
I get why EOI wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea. Even I have to admit that I struggle to understand half of the dialogue... still find it funny how there were subtitles for Rainbine when most of her lines were honestly easier to understand than the rest, at least in my opinion. I only love EOI as much as I do because of nostalgia, and it was actually one of the first fanworks I discovered, so it's always gonna have a special place in my heart, despite how weird it is. Good memories.
Just want to add • the friendship t3st with starlight is based on the horror films "Circle" & "Would you rather" both films can be seen on Netflix rn c:
I was an mlp fan when I was super young and I really liked the creepypastas. I recall staying up late listening to Something Sweet to Bite, nice memories. I still get freaked out remembering the fact that whilst my younger self was walking around my room making crafts my headphones were playing very detailed readings of Cupcakes. Like- imagine how disturbing that would have been for the adults around me if they knew.
For something sweet to bite, nightmare night is still about Luna, as they start leaving candy to her as a thank you for banishing away the Candy Mare with the light of the moon. They also mention the whole Nightmare moon thing and how Nightmare night's traditions changed from thanking Luna to offering candy to Nightmare moon to not eat them. Like how the meanings and traditions of holidays change as time goes on. So it's not fully a retcon.
My absolute favourite is Something sweet to bite! I love gore and slashers so its great to me. Ive drawn the Candymare and other characters several times, and i cosplayed her last year for Halloween
It just so happens that this Halloween, me and my friends all dressed up as MLP creepypastas!! I was Pinkamena, my friend was Rainbow Factory Dash, and while not quite a creepypasta, my other friend went with us as Fluttershed haha. Excellent video, Shunks!! Happy Halloween!!
I remember reading cupcakes for the first time and I was so intrigued by the way the author described gore. I had no business reading that at my age but I also read a book series called GONE that had similar levels of gore. I also remember reading a fic where Pinkie Pie tortures Rarity and I was impressed by the amount of continuity and callbacks to the original. IIRC I believe Pinkie Pie actually fed Rarity a drugged cupcake she made from Rainbow Dash and later on Rarity sees Rainbow's stuffed remains in the chamber.
i had the very fun experience of watching you scroll down the list of The Truth About MLP stories as my heart rate slowly rose, held tight with anticipation over whether you'd show mine on screen. Thanks for enriching my spook season experience, Shunks.
Hey Shunks just wanted to let you I love your channel and it makes my day whenever you upload a new video :] I love how you do your avatar, the fact that your cartoon yak is chilling in its cartoon bedroom instead of just floating through the void like most animated avatars do is reassuring
ayyy "something broke" made it into the video! hell yeah, one of my favorite cupcakes adjacent works i was pretty active in the horror/grimdark side of the fandom back in the day but there's quite a few of these i've never heard of! i love how much research goes into all your videos, you're a very talented creator!
God I remember making a critique comment about the “Muffins” series and the author basically took offense to it lol. All because I made a comment about the “bakers” going back to the crime scene shorty after they were first caught lol
Rocket to Insanity was my first real introduction to the grimdark parts of the fandom, of course I read the og cupcakes and a couple of other mindless stories of just killer ponies, but RtI was the first real intro to having these dark concepts with our innocent group of characters. I was "fortunate" to have listened/read the story as it came out, and even though some of the earlier acts of the story were a bit off, specifically the confrontation of rainbow and pinkie in SCC, pinkie is completely oblivious to dash's actions/state of mind (then again who can blame equestria's happiest and most joyful pony) and her reaction is a little underwhelming (but not by much), but then the rest of the mane 6's reaction to the event was phenomenal and did great to represent there charactors in a darker setting, AJ getting very physical, rarity scolding rd and walking away, fluttershy's light hit, and twilight trying to understand the situation. And not to mention the amazing work ObelSribbler (the Voice artist i watched/listened to) and her team did in voice acting, while some of the voice acting was a bit choppy at the start, mainly Pinkie, only a few episodes later did they really honed in on these characters, between Cloud9's portray of a unstable and vulnerable Dash, Animelodie's emotional portray of Princess Luna, and Illya's portray of a uncaring and amphatic Parthus, its some of the best voicing that I've ever heard, AND the fact that Animelodie did all of Luna's lines in one sitting is very impressive. Not to mention the amazing artwork and scene representation, a few that come to mind is the café scene, that shows the true impacts of Dash's insanity on her everyday life, the treehouse scene, specifically when Parthus takes control of Dashies body and has that tussle with Twilight, both hospital scenes the first where Dash apologizes to Pinkie and the second where they all gather to spend what could be there last moments together, and the mind sequences where Luna faces off with both influence from Parthus, and her own feelings considering the promise she gave Twilight. This story was really the turning point for me in the case of grimdarks and really got me to look at some other stories that focus on character then that just killing (fics like The Cough come to mind) and my only bug other than some less than optimal voice performance is that this story never got a sequel or at least a small epilogue. Anyway I thank you for reading to what I had to say, and have a good one.
I met the Sgt. Sprinkles at BronyCon 2012 and man, that guy was way more chill than I thought he'd be. He kind of wanted to just put a face to it and let it simmer away.
I used to listen to Muffins all the time!! it was one of my favorite mlp pastas at the time! also funny enough, Cupcakes is why I can do a bad Pinkie pie impression cause Me and my 5th grade friends had a creepypasta table and I was her lol. I know he doesnt count but I loved the ask Discorded Whooves blog a lot as well!
A quick note about the "Friendship Test" It seems to be inspired by both Saw and Would You Rather. If I remember right, like 2 "tests" are directly taken from Would You Rather.
I thought this video came out like a day ago, just because people we're talking about how early it came out. Then I remembered that I live in Finland. Awesome video, I'm always stoked when you upload!
a ztory you zhould look at next when youll do another video iz "forever faithful" and/or "the cough"!! forever faithful iz horrifically underrated, and zhould get more attention for being a zpooky twilight creepypazta!
I know coming at this late, but Rainbow Factory has the most staying power out of all the creepypastas, probably because of the reasons you mentioned in the first video. People are still making new stuff, mostly in music because that's where it started, but it's still around. It's wild to me.
My favorite MLP creepypasta is Silent Ponyville. It was my first MLP creepypasta I've ever listened to and is the reason way I got into the silent Hill games. The Pinkie Pie story is my favorite of the two I've listened to. I won't spoil it too much if you haven't read/ listened to it, but through the whole story I was rooting for Pinkie and I felt absolutely terrible about her past and what happened to her sister. The voice acting in one particular scene near the end still sticks in my head, it was one of the most heartbreaking blood curdling screams I've ever heard. The monsters in the story are absolutely creative and symbolize the trauma the characters faced perfectly. Listening to the stories a second time was a mind-blowing thing when I understood everything and how everything symbolized something. The writer did a phenomenal job in my opinion and I still listen to the stories at least once a year. I highly recommend reading/listening to it if you haven't.
I remember loving Elements of Insanity. Funnily enough, i also got into it blind, not knowing what Tf2 freaks were (i deadass didnt mnow EoI was based on that its the first i heard of it) idk why i loved it so much
swear a younger me used to be really into it but looking back i have no idea why, i had forgotten basically everything about it except the fact the ponies had been possessed and fused with spirits and rewatching it it took me by surprise how little of it i understood. felt like the videos were only one half of the story but where that other half is i have no idea!
Cupcakes is what got me into the creepypasta scene back when it was popular. The Candymare was scary af back then. My absolute favorite MLP creepypasta was Downfall by BronyWriter! It's about Twilight and omg it used to give me chills listening to it. Do every year at least once in October bc it gives such spooky vibes.
Stayed up all night reading that story and it's sequels. One of the very few fictional writings (including NON-mlp fics) that genuinely had me on edge and full of dread the entire time. Amazing story
Oh my god I've never heard anyone mention Muffins!! I remember listening to the series as I was young and I thought it was the coolest shit ever. It's awesome hearing it mentioned bc i honestly thought I was the only one who heard of it
When I was a kid, I remember being so scared of this creepypasta called "my little amnesia." I don't know a lot about it but I remember always being scared of the Fluttershy image. The image I'm talking about is Fluttershy with black eyes, a wheel (I think?) around her neck and chains around her hooves. She always looked so sad and the cries Fluttershy made always broke my heart. Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie also looked like that but their "personalities" are different. Fluttershy represents sadness, Rainbow Dash represents rage, and Pinkie Pie represents happiness. I don't know a lot about it, but I always thought it was interesting. I definitely recommend that you talk about it next year
Omg i remember muffins! Youve unlocked a forbidden memory! I saw the thumbnails and the way you talk about pinkies sisters and i was putting it all together in my head but i remember hearing this shit as a kid, and the speedpaints..
Honestly, yeah, the Elements of Insanity were just really annoying to me. I don't remember ever finishing Rocket to Insanity, because of the length, but I remember really enjoying what I did read. And fun fact, The Friendship test heavily references the "Would you rather" film for the first part
I remember a comic of apple jack where she had a tree fall on her then she was in a coma and there was a zombie apocalypse idfk I was like 8 when I saw it
I have a lot of mixed feelings about Muffins, but I do like how unashamedly edgy and off the walls it gets. In the Let’s Welcome Chaos chapters the bakers literally capture and/or kill everypony in ponyville and I think one of them wears like a suit of armour made of razor blades at one point?? It’s funny you compare it to the creepypasta proxy/mansion side of the fandom because the creator literally had to make a video telling people to stop asking for her to put their OC’s in the story, and I think in one chapter there’s a character made to make fun of these edgy fan inserts.
It was Inkie Pie with the suit of armor made out of razor blades I think lol Edit:It is actually Blinkie. I just reread the chapter Let's Welcome Chaos Part 1
The way the author wrote Derpy is ablest as hell. The stereotype of Neurodivergent people (ahem autistic people) being slow, stupid or childlike is all over the story. The story has the r slur as well in multiple parts of the story. It's also very poorly written. So...
One of my favorite MLP Creepypastas was The Cough. Really felt for the characters and leaving it on a cliffhanger as well.
There's a cough 2
And in the darkness, somebody coughed :3
Oh yeah, that was a good one!
that one was always my favorite as a kid, i remember being really scared by it but listening to it all the time
The vandalized version was the best part.
So she's Candy-Pony Spawn?
My opinion and what I know from only hearing one installment of the candymare
She's made of candy
Just literally eat her and no one would have to deal with her
@@night4138 did you not finish the first instalment? they do eat her and all it does is turn everyone who ate her into candy monsters like her
Wait, seriously? That's the new one? Ewww. Talk about mary-sue.
The term "fillyfooler" is actually used quite a lot in fanfics. It even has a counterpart for males which is "colt-coddler".
Idk why these exist or who came up with them but they exist, so yeah
I love how there's a whole lexicon of slang based solely off mlp
why the horses homophobic
its better than what i did when i tried to make warrior cat slurs and just ended up with f*gcat
@@gemwolfz2860 funny enough, more often than not i see it NOT used as a slur- just a blanket statement. The groups for lgbt stories on fimfic are often called 'coltcuddlers' or something along those lines. Some writers just wanna be edgy.
Oh Christ I FORGOT about "Fillyfooling" until like a week ago when it randomly popped into my head
Inky Blinky Pinky *Clyde*
It'd be funny if she just had like some regular human name like "Beth".
Kinda sad that the author herself is kinda a terrible person but aye.. the series is cool
But reitanna is a groomer lier and manipulator sooo.. yeah..
@@vixymix101 Oh, there’s drama with her? Is it like the drama with the Bride of Dicord author, or something else?
That's actually Silent Ponyville 2. SP1 follows Pinkie Pie. Basically the same premise, but less subtle psychological horror, more visual horror.

Hey no problem.
She picks a number, culls off ponies and gives the meat to Equestria's neighbors
And these are towards ponies that committed crimes against others that aren't forgivable.
I thought that was pretty cool. Would've been even cooler if they incorporated Rainbow Factory and instead, *that* was why RD was killed. Because of her crimes in the factory..
Where can I read it
My fave cupcakes spinoffs were always Age of Twilight and Forensics is Magic
that would be a major plothole though
celestia knows about the rainbow factory. she gave the pegasi the job of rainbows after she began to have too much work on her hooves.
Agreed...but Twilight blaming everything on AJ soured it for me. Talk about OOC
I loved that one too!!
Anyways there’s a part 4 now shocking
I don’t understand.
The person that created that series is WEIRD as hell, too. He has this whole alternate universe where the TF2 cast and the MLP cast are all friends.

I guess that’s part of the horror. You don’t really know for sure which it is
thought it was pretty clear that twilight was shifting the blame wholesale onto applejack to cover for herself, iirc even a line or two hinting that twilight didn't want to seem responsible for the potion because it would mean she'd be locked away too
@@seekerstheshy3842 Yeah this is what happens, she basically says that she's far too important to the well being of Equestria to take the fall

I feel like the ending would have been much better with that sort of ambiguity

If you wouldn't mind doing so, how exactly does the first point even play out?
It took me years to read that because I was such a scaredy cat ngl. That scared me as a kid
@@nameynamd9212 explain
The made of candy part or the part where the 6 give the candymare exactly what she wanted
@@brandoncole5533 The 2nd one.
@@nameynamd9212 the multiverse?
Sure
So essentially there was a universe where Candy killed discord and as shown in the candy cult she can essentially make them to be her loyal followers against their will and she saw discord as an important asset for her goal
So she turned him into one of these followers and made him use his chaos magic (which can canonically make and bind universes) to basically stitch the universes she conquers together and make it a part of her original universe that she now calls the candy verse
If you wanna know how she goes through universes
In the sequel of the first we find out that she kidnapped Luna and had been prepping her so that when the time came she could take over her body and steal her power
Turns out that in this universe Luna had a power unbeknownst to her and Celestia
Everyone from every universe human or pony is connected by dreams and Luna is the only one with the power to access those dreams until candy absorbs her power and leaves her to die and goes on to take over rainbow dashes body
She can manifest her body in their dreams and then eventually the world that the dreamer is in
And she just does that for presumably thousands of worlds
The Candymare fic was genuinely terrifying when I first read it, the bit where she stalks Applejack was so tense and I loved the disgust horror when the townsfolk eat the blood covered candy.
Oh Rocket To Insanity sounds like EXACTLY my shit. Weirdly dramatic and raw fancomics for children's media or stuff you wouldn't otherwise expect that sorta thing for, complete with philosophical debates and hours long comic dubs? Sign me up
Btw! The friendship test creepy pasta is actually based off the movie "would you rather" fun to be watching at 5am btw!
A Puppet to Her Fame is a super good read. It's by far one of my favorite horror fics from the fandom
One that sticks forever in my mind was an Applejack grimdark called The Hole In My Face, it was more of a poem/short story

They could have cut that.)
a puppet to her fame was amazing but also disgustingly sad and the ending still makes me cry
There's actually a sequel to Something sweet to Bite! It's Christmas themed instead. From what I've read and heard? The first story only exists because the author was recovering from a really nasty spider bite. 😭
there's actually like 5 sequels :0

OMG THE POISON JOKE ONE

Basically the exact same story
To The point where I could predict parts of the movie from the mlp fanfic lol
Experienced a similar thing with a game grumps fanfic and the movie Orphan
Alright, I'm going to defend the Muffin Series a bit here.
One thing that always fascinated me abou the series is that no matter how depraved the Bakers get, they have this strangely wholesome bond with each other. Reitanna does a really good job at creating dynamics between these characters so that we understand and sympathize with their struggles while simultaneously be sicken by what they do.
Each Baker has faced some form of abuse or mistreatment at the hooves of others, yet are able to become a sort of found family.(Apple Bloom may be the only exception since its implied that Pinkie influenced her when she was younger instead of facing a particular hardship.)
I'm not saying it's a perfect series per say, nothing is without flaws.
(It's not commentary that new by any means but it's still a prevalent issue.)
Muffins isn't a story about good people.
@@tystotallyradicaltoenail It's still portrayed as perfectly fine to groom babies to be serial killers and that's pretty squick.

The twist ending of “Why I Stopped Watching My Little Pony” reminds me of Candle Cove.
Update: The author said that Candle Cove was their inspiration.
i loved muffins sm, stumbled on it as a kid and i revisit it every so often
I remember being too scared to sleep when I read a mlp creepypasta. Good memories.
i think i watched elements of insanity when i was younger omg
i remember i used to watch mlp gmod stuff and im 99% sure it was actually those, im honestly so excited about this
girl why was this posted at 5am 😭😭 ik you use eastern time too
why are you awake at 5am?????
@@DrDerpy-gl5ox I could ask you the same thing
@@theRCenby it is quite simple, insomnia
My same thoughts
@@DrDerpy-gl5ox answered your own question, bro
My absolute favourite is Something sweet to bite! I love gore and slashers so its great to me. Ive drawn the Candymare and other characters several times, and i cosplayed her last year for Halloween
the angel dust one mightve been the scariest thing ive ever heard
I remember being terrified of all these creepypastas when i was younger lol
It just so happens that this Halloween, me and my friends all dressed up as MLP creepypastas!! I was Pinkamena, my friend was Rainbow Factory Dash, and while not quite a creepypasta, my other friend went with us as Fluttershed haha.
Excellent video, Shunks!! Happy Halloween!!
Time to watch this at 5:30 AM! My favorite time to watch Shunks!
I used to be obsessed with mlp grimdarks that where heavy on plot like Twilight's Dollhouse
The Chills impression made me lose it
The cough continues to be my favourite. It’s such a simple idea but I think it was executed very well.
i had the very fun experience of watching you scroll down the list of The Truth About MLP stories as my heart rate slowly rose, held tight with anticipation over whether you'd show mine on screen. Thanks for enriching my spook season experience, Shunks.
Hey Shunks just wanted to let you I love your channel and it makes my day whenever you upload a new video :] I love how you do your avatar, the fact that your cartoon yak is chilling in its cartoon bedroom instead of just floating through the void like most animated avatars do is reassuring
cupcakes, muffins (cupcakes inspired), rainbow factory , and elements of insanity is my favorites from it. same as some here
Hey guys! What're y'all doing up at almost 5am? 😳
I can't sleep cuz I'm going to cosplay for Halloween today
It's was 6 pm when this uploaded for me but ok
I gotta say
Definitely the best time to be watching this at 4 rn
People making up gay slurs for ponies is one of the funniest things I've heard all week
a puppet to her fame and cheerliee's garden are still the most horrific MLP creepypastas in my opinion
ayyy "something broke" made it into the video! hell yeah, one of my favorite cupcakes adjacent works
i was pretty active in the horror/grimdark side of the fandom back in the day but there's quite a few of these i've never heard of! i love how much research goes into all your videos, you're a very talented creator!
omg i used to be obsessed with the obsidian line of muffins and it used to scare me so bad but i couldnt stop watching it
God I remember making a critique comment about the “Muffins” series and the author basically took offense to it lol. All because I made a comment about the “bakers” going back to the crime scene shorty after they were first caught lol
I remember seeing snippets of a horror FlutterMac comic. I was never able to find the whole thing. "A most beautiful dress" or something.
The apple sleep experiment song was banger tbh
16:40 As someone who was a part of this scout/regiment, this story just cracked me up, and it's just nostalgic all together
Discord Hooves is still being worked on and set to be finished in the next two years.
YK I love Apple Sleep Experiment, it’s sad not a lot of people know about it.
Ngl, I listened to the candymare in preparation for this video, it's probably one of my fav MLP creepypastas so far
Puppet To Her Fame was amazing!!! I completely forgot till now, I read it sooo many times
a ztory you zhould look at next when youll do another video iz "forever faithful" and/or "the cough"!! forever faithful iz horrifically underrated, and zhould get more attention for being a zpooky twilight creepypazta!
i believe zhe'z covered the cough in a previouz hallovveen video!! :]
@@droidhusbands OHH i havent zeen the previouz one in a long time xP whoopz
To be fair I'd probably shit myself if I was playing Ponytown and Dream's Mask song started blasting
Funnily enough, i also got into it blind, not knowing what Tf2 freaks were (i deadass didnt mnow EoI was based on that its the first i heard of it) idk why i loved it so much
MUFFINS MENTION WOO HOO (i swear i mentioned this in the last video)
I agree with what you said about the Elements Of Insanity. I personally couldn't get into it and it was just noise to me.
swear a younger me used to be really into it but looking back i have no idea why, i had forgotten basically everything about it except the fact the ponies had been possessed and fused with spirits and rewatching it it took me by surprise how little of it i understood. felt like the videos were only one half of the story but where that other half is i have no idea!
@@seekerstheshy3842 honestly same lmao
Cupcakes is what got me into the creepypasta scene back when it was popular. The Candymare was scary af back then. My absolute favorite MLP creepypasta was Downfall by BronyWriter! It's about Twilight and omg it used to give me chills listening to it. Do every year at least once in October bc it gives such spooky vibes.
I recommend A Fleeting Light In The Darkness
Absolutely horrifying
I definitely recommend that you talk about it next year
I can’t believe I forgot how amazing this fandom was 🥹 so much freaking creativity that we need to bring back
Omg i remember muffins! Youve unlocked a forbidden memory! I saw the thumbnails and the way you talk about pinkies sisters and i was putting it all together in my head but i remember hearing this shit as a kid, and the speedpaints..
Vampiolence,of roten apples and putrid pears and rec [O] will always be my favourites
Oh and bluebloods pets
Honestly, yeah, the Elements of Insanity were just really annoying to me.
I don't remember ever finishing Rocket to Insanity, because of the length, but I remember really enjoying what I did read.
And fun fact, The Friendship test heavily references the "Would you rather" film for the first part
I remember a comic of apple jack where she had a tree fall on her then she was in a coma and there was a zombie apocalypse idfk I was like 8 when I saw it
Twilight's Dollhouse is another good MLP dark fic!
It was Inkie Pie with the suit of armor made out of razor blades I think lol
Edit:It is actually Blinkie. I just reread the chapter Let's Welcome Chaos Part 1
@@queeniedramanicole9427 I'm pretty sure it was Blinkie 'cause I actually read that story recently.
The way the author wrote Derpy is ablest as hell. The stereotype of Neurodivergent people (ahem autistic people) being slow, stupid or childlike is all over the story. The story has the r slur as well in multiple parts of the story. It's also very poorly written. So...
@@diminie_chimket As someone diagnosed with autism, trust me I am very aware.
Not the chills voice you put on for the Ponytown part 😭 lmao
I lovedddd Elements of Insanity when I was little, I remember making fan art of it when I was like way too young lol. Good times
16:50 bro i was literally making moxxie from helluva boss when this came on?? i feel called out
