Thanks for tuning in guys! For those wondering, here is an updated parts list for this bike project: Giant Trance X3 2013 - $500 (FaceBook Marketplace) kirbebike Hub Motor Kit + Battery: $1300 Matte Black Mountain Bike Pedals: $23 Grin V4 Torque Arm: $55
Nice build, I’ve just built my first 1000w e bike only front suspension though as I was worried about space to mount everything but that bike you got was a good fit for electric.
Yep! I had concerns that the suspension in the center triangle might not allow enough room for the electronics, but fortunately, the frame had a large triangle, so it wasn't an issue.
@@AaronsCreations I am planning on doing this on my Canyon Spectral which uses almost the same exact triangle geometry. This video is great news for my project, but Im still concerned about the space, how did you slide the battery onto the rails the first time? I am worried about this detail ruining my idea because I want to be able to take off the battery if I ever need to. Any advice?
when youre riding at the end of the video, youre using nearly all the suspension travel meaning you havent adjusted the rear shock for all the additionl weight. consider increasing the air pressure in the rear shock
Nice build, I have just converted my bike to electric using a kirbebike kit also but using a front hub motor 350 watt with an mtx39 rim paired with a 48v 20ah 960 wh battery LG cells.
great, I like this bike very much, it must be super comfortable for everyday use to commute to work. I now have a hardtail ebike and would like to see the difference in riding such a full suspension ebike but I wouldn't want to spend a bag of money on a bike either so I will be looking for the same frame in my area.
Hey Aaron! Love the build, I am hoping to build something similar. I could be mistaken, but I didn't notice a mention of frame size during your video. If you have a moment to check, I would love to know the size, as I'm wondering if sizing up would be prudent in the interest of maximizing triangle space. Cheers, and thanks for the inspiration!
hey there, i was looking to convert a bike and i was wondering instead of putting everything inside the frame have you ever wondered to put the controller or battery on top of the frame in between the handlebar and the seat?
Yes, I considered that, however mounting and dismounting from the bike would be less than ideal. As a result, I went with placing the electronics in the body!
Aaron thanks for this video. I watch lots of your videos. Please can you help me this: I have similar set up like yours. brushless hub motor of 1,500 watts 48v, with controller of 60A peak. But when climbing hills the bike goes off. I guess the controller shuts off. So I don't know could it be the battery or the controller? Your opinion or if any experience on this please. Thanks
Check your current limit. If you have a current limit set, and you exceed the limit, the power will cut out. The reason why it cuts out when you’re climbing hills is because the load typically peaks when climbing hills.
@@AaronsCreations Thanks a lot. I checked this but eventually i figured out it was the battery. It runs down to almost zero when the controller pulls like up to 35A on hills climbing. Thanks once again.
@@AaronsCreations How did you mount the brake (motor cut out) magnet sensors -- glue (what type) ? or tape ? In your opinion are the brake cut off sensors really needed? Once throttle is released then motor cuts out right? Most riders would never use BOTH throttle and brake at the same time. Also, on a regular gas motorcycle the brakes don't have any throttle cut out sensors -- so why the need for this device on an electric bike?
@@AaronsCreations dw I understand! I'm planning on buying the rize x to use as a donor, and swap out the hub motor, controller, and display. They have a mount for dual battery which will be nice for range. I'm planning to use a 1000w geared hub with a 52v 40a controller. I'm deciding between the bafang g063 and mxus gdr-19fat right now
Not that I am aware of. However we do have a PEV Community where we host group rides, discussions with fellow eBike Builders, EUC Riders, Scooter Riders, etc… The group is called “Vancouver ESK8” on Facebook
Hmm, interesting. I was wondering if it was even possible to do a conversion on a dual suspension. I've got a 2004ish Mongoose Teocali comp I wanna do a conversion on but the frame and suspension setup is a bit different to this bike so I need to a bit more research and go see the guys at the local bike shops to see what they think the best setup would be. 👍🙂
Torque washers can also be installed on the inside with tooth facing out. Seen this done plenty times. Not an issue really as installer can decide which way is best based on frame and axle fit in the dropouts. There should be comfortable snug fit and clearance for wheel to spin and torque arms to fit properly

I want to do this to my bike. I have a giant that's almost the exact same model and I really think it would be awesome to do this.

Thanks for sharing. I will be sure to account for the additional mass!
your bike is a bit small for you. or you need to put your seat higher.
Very informative video and a great sequel to your last eBike video! You earned a subscriber!
Thank you! Glad your enjoyed it!

Definitely hard to find a full suspension frame that fits the characteristics needed for a eBike. But worth it!
My bikes got 2.35 tyres with puncture proof inserts and slime tubes , had 1 flat in thousands of miles

Hey! The frame is a Giant Trace X3 - Size: Medium
id want to see this with the usual dirt, water and mud my bike goes through every ride 🙃
Why? Mine works just fine
Whats the size of the geometry of the triangle, i need to find a frame where i can fit a 14 inch by 4 inch battery

Great build bro, do you have a link for the torque arm?
Hey, it’s in the description 😄
4:50 don't you mean 20% charge increments? 5 segments total there (20 * 5 = 100)
Yes, my mistake, it is 20% not 25%

What do you do of your donor bike has hydraulic brakes? Then u can install the supplied e-brake in those kits that cuts the motor when braking right?
Both my conversion bikes have hydraulic brakes. In which case, I used the magnetic sensor that senses the presence of the magnet to cut off the motor.

Oh hey you're in van. I'm currently learning about eBikes because of the rebate and stumbled across your videos. Did you get the rebate as well?
Unfortunately, conversion kits are not eligible for the eBike rebate!
Only Fully assembled e-bikes that have a price of at least 2k are eligible.

Nice bike! Which hailong battery case is that? What dimensions? Thx
It’s the standard hailong 13S5P battery case!
Where did you get the battery mounting bracket from? I don't see any batter coming with that.
Here’s a link to the battery mounting bracket: s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DeLKkKB
in my experience putting the controller in a case cooks the thing.
Hey mate, is the amp size of the battery?
16aH

I've seen someone that has a 3000W motor on a full suspension. He goes at 75kph

your washers are not installed properly the the torque washer should be on the outside not the inside of the drop out assembly
