I’m 70. When I was a kid, my doctor, Dr. Blumfield, came to our house when we were sick. He was the doctor to our entire family, babies to great grandparents. He prescribed antibiotics, a big ol’ shot in the rear end, very rarely. He advised us to sweat out a fever. Mostly we took cod liver oil and were sent outside to run around in the sun. Older folks were advised to sit in the sun as well. That was our healthcare.

I've been a pharmacist for 28 years. The pattern I have seen in many, many, medical professionals (me included) is that our eyes begin to open when we have to deal with our own health issues and come to the realization that the current medical paradigm doesn't have answers to HEAL the body, but only to mask symptoms. That is when we can really start to help our own patients--after we have figured out how to heal ourselves.

It is obvious. Like, you don't know how it feels like, when your wrist is broken until you break your own. Then you start understand others with the same pain and incapacity... However, as a health care practitioner I found out that majority of people are not willing to hear your advice, even if they ask for it. Mostly they are looking for a pill or jab to end their suffering and their habits of eating are the last one they are ready to change...

Yes and people have been trained to believe there is a pill for everything. Big Pharma made sure to get that tag line out there. I am 61, never forget when prescription med commercials began on TV, I was mind blown. They say don't Google your symptoms and be your own doctor but we'll fire commercials at you 24/7 so you can ask your Dr for these meds 🙄

Is there something I can do to lose the weight?" I said, "Yes! and now is the time to do it--before you're put on more medication!" After I finished telling him how to make the necessary life-style changes, he said, "Isn't there a pill I can take?" I said, "No. Here's your metformin." And sent him on his way. As a nurse who’s worked in both hospital and office, I can tell you that when I began in 1990, the doctors I worked for had to suddenly know everything about each persons insurance. The insurance companies have way too much control. Doctors now cannot do what they see as proper without a fight. That’s only part of the problem, but a huge part. Also friends tell me oh, even if doctors did say to do low carb people wouldn’t listen. I disagree. I think people do try to follow guidelines and they’re sicker for it.

I agree! I've been a nurse since '84. While working as a nurse practitioner in the ER, we were to treat people differently according to the color of their...CHART! Medicaid/medicare people were treated one way while private insurance were a different way. And the uninsured received far less tests in case they couldn't pay for them! It was so frustrating to practice this way.

And if you are on Medicare it gets even trickier. I retired from my government job before I was elgible for Medicare. So I elected to contnue my government health insurance coverage. It is not cheap but it is good insurance. So, for several years I was covered by my private insurance coverage without Medicare. Then I became elgible for Medicare, and Medicare became my primary insurance and my private insurance became my secondary. So, I was enrolled in original Medicare with my private insurance becoming my supplemental. I knew almost nothing about Medicare at the time but I have learned a lot since I retired. I found out that, in my ignorance, I had signed up for original medicare with a supplemental. I could easily have been talked into an Advantage plan. I have no copays, I have prescription coverage that is pretty good , and I have had three surgeries and three other stays in the hospital along with some trips to the ER and health clinics for which I have not paid one dime except for Medicare part B and my insurance premiums. Medicare has been one nice surprise in getting older. Advantage plans have their place for some people but they are ripping off the medicare system, and congress and M.edicare knows it And of course, Advantage plans are run by the insurance companies. Even my govrnment insurance company recently started offering Advantage plans. And Medicare has its own problems. Many medical services are dictated by Medicare or insurance companies so as you say, they are dictating to the doctors what course of treatment that they are able to provide. I am no fan of big insurance companoes or big pharma.

He is the Director of the Duke Keto Medicine Clinic at Duke University and treats patients 4 days a week. His specialties are Internal Medicine and Obeisity Medicine. Here is an excerpt from his website: "I have dedicated my life to helping people with medical conditions such as type 1 and type 2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity, hypertension, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), and many others through diet and lifestyle changes. I believe that conventional medical protocols typically treat symptoms rather than addressing underlying causes. Over 170 million Americans suffer from obesity, pre-diabetes, and type 2 diabetes. Yet, the clinical research I’ve conducted at Duke University shows that this American Medical Association-recognized disease can be put into remission - without medications - through a low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet alone. The results have been astounding: 26,000 pounds lost, 98% of patients affected by type 2 diabetes off insulin, 4,000 patients and 28,000 clinical visits." Of course now those of us that do the work and actually look at the studies regarding cardiovascular disease and the link between hyper insulinemia caused by carbohydrates , IE grains and disease know for a fact that carbohydrates and processed foods are the real culprits of systemic inflammation which will lead to cardiovascular disease . The reason doctors don't understand nutrition is not because they don't get any education about it. We know this, because the people who do get educated about nutrition, which are dietitians and nutritionists don't understand it either...
I make the argument that it is better for doctors to not get any formal education about nutrition because nutrition education is basically all lies in the first place...it's better to be uninformed than misinformed.
Most doctors are uninformed about nutrition.

Doctors get little in the way of nutrition training, yet they speak as authorities on the subject.
When I studied Shiatsu, one of our core classes was nutrition that was taught by a registered dietitian who was also a paediatrician... she told us that we received 10 times the amount of info that she received while in medical school and that food was as important as any medicine. It is difficult to take any advice from my doctor regarding nutrition because so much of it is wrong.

@bibibachmd9995 Do you have any recommendations for a youngster on the path toward medicine but wanting to be a proponent of true health and nutrition? Would you recommend MD, nutrition studies (ie. functional medicine or health coach), or something else? The medical field definitely seems set up to make a profit, with physicians having good intentions for their patients, but limited to practice within a dysfunctional system that works around the premise of pathologies and disease management rather than preventions and cures. Thank you for any wisdom you can offer!

    • @bibibachmd9995
      @bibibachmd9995 9 месяцев назад

The medical system is entirely corrupt. MDs who want to do the best for their patients but go against the dogma are often punished by the medical boards. The AMA advises not to assign the sex of the baby on the birth certificate. Very woke and how crazy is that. If your youngster must do medicine I would recommend anesthesiology, pathology and radiology. Good luck to that young person!@@kristenturner1222

I still think everyone needs a CGM at least for a time to learn what’s costing them wear & tear.

Having found information like this online has definitely helped me (female, 52 yo) stay off of any medication. I have always been somewhere between chubby and overweight and have started having several related health issues: increased blood pressure (130/90, but still an increase from my usual 120/80), pressure headaches, knee pain after a ski injury, ...) and most of the doctors I went to told me that my issues were caused by my weight but when I asked them how to lose weight, the general reaction, sometimes paired with a guilty look to their own gut, was just a helpless shrug.
Had I accepted, I would have gotten blood pressure pills, anti- migrane pills (to be taken preventively every day for the rest of my life), and, eventually, probably also insuline.
Instead, I started fasting and cutting carbs and - lo and behold - all my troubles are gone! Thank you so much for spreading the word!!

I am a 64-year-old polymath / autodidact. I have developed more than six skill sets in the Skilled Trade Arena, in my time. I have found that once my primary training was finished, that was when the real learning started. I have learned to look at where the shortcomings are and look for corrective answers to any lack of understanding. Not all doctors are a students or pass the medical licensing exam the first time they take it. Like many practitioners of a trade some are lazy and will not push Beyond what they have been taught. I've only met one doctor that was also a naturopath doctor. Most fellow skill set practitioners think that it is amusing that I push beyond the norm of understanding. It is also hard to move forward in that most people have not documented much of this because of the adversity necessary to be prolific. I routinely ask questions of myself that other people cannot fathom. It is good to listen to freethinkers who are way smarter/ intelligent then their peers. Hyper ability in critical thinking is a superhero ability. Thank you for your efforts, my good fortune come to you always. Best wishes and Merry Christmas.

It helped me over the years but I really kind of got away from it while raising kids, work, etc. Now I realize that I should have stuck with it back then and saved myself from the pain and suffering I've been through. That is why I am now a carnivore.

Doctors have lost their curiosity because insurance companies dictate what can and is not allowed to be done. Universities and hospitals are in the pockets of the insurance companies. They employ most doctors and so doctors are restricted. Big pharma makes it so easy to cover up the problem and create a host of new ones. I was an RN for many years and on the receiving end of healthcare and the deterioration in patient care has been dramatic. It is sad to see people sick when it could so easily have been prevented by the honest truth and looking at the individual and prescribing care based on that truthful assessment. My heart goes out to the good medical professionals who continue to strive and fight through the quagmire of legalism.

My go-to RUclips doctors, along with Dr John Campbell from the UK. Used to recommend Dr. Eric Berg, whose videos led me on to yours. Really enjoy the no-nonsense, non-judgemental approach unless you have studies to back it up.

Remember folks, the carnivore diet is extremely low carb so if you want all the benefits being in ketosis you should try carnivore. I'm currently on a keto diet with OMAD fasting most days. However I find myself gravitating more and more towards carnivore.

Once you drop nuts and greens you’ll likely feel better in many ways. You may have oxylate dumping for a couple of weeks. Look it up if you’re new to oxylates. It’s more than just bad for kidney stones. Mental health and joint buildup and low energy. Blurry eyes for me.

Started Atkins in 1995. Kept it up because of the metabolic advantage of excreting ketones (fat) as opposed to having to burn it.
We are a dual fuel species: glucose and ketones. We run better on both than we do on only glucose. And the way to have both fuels is to eat predominantly meat.
In 2020 I went carnivore or near zero carbs.
And I have added sprinting as Dr. Omara advocates. Been sprinting for 3 and 1/2 months. Highly recommend it. Never had so much benefit from so little effort.
But sprinting is what carnivores do mostly in the wild because they are ambush predators.
    I am 73.

It is great to see a doctor speak up about medicine and supplements. I have zero faith in the medical industry. I used to suffer from a UTI from time to time so I needed antibiotics. One day I discovered Kefir. The antibiotic did not work so I started taking kefir daily. Would you believe my UTI disappeared and I have not had one since.
I cannot agree with you that it is easy to stay healthy. The food industry makes it very difficult. It is a challenge to practice a healthy life style.
A few months ago we started to make our own bread from ancient organic whole grains. We mill our own flour. It has been a wonderful experience.
I was born in 1945 and I take no medicines and no supplements and I avoid doctors. Eva

Medical school weeds out the curious. There is too much to memorize for one to be curious. If you stop to ask and delve into why, you miss too much.
