SG1 did kind of contribute to me joining up. I always liked how they portrayed Col. O'Neill as tough and righteous and it always sparked to me that was because of his Military service. I guess SG3 must have impacted me more though because I joined the Marines. Damn glad I did to. At any rate I enjoyed the show and how their teamwork, friendship and respect could conquer anything that came their way. A fine example we should all strive for.
They got the seal of approval from the Air Force, too. I think it's great how they had AF personnel help with making the show as realistic as possible for the soldiers. Not to mentioned some actual officers guest starred. :)
No surprise that the show helped recruitment. The character of Sam Carter alone helped the most; a smart, competent, professional and human face to Air force women! It also helped get out the message that The USAF really, actually DOES have Special Forces who do ground operations too!
I love that the military understands the opportunities at stake when playing with the entertainment industry. It's good to see that they didnt just use Stargate as a propoganda tool to show the Armed Forces at their best, and instead let it run reasonably free.
Honestly I kinda think it was actually true with those actors playing themselves. Considering if there were aliens these would be the gentlemen to know about it
@Phil483282 They're Air Force personnel, or Airmen, as they're called. They're not soldiers which would be Army personnel. Basically in the U.S. there are Soldiers (Army), Sailors (Navy), Airmen (Air Force), Marines (Marine Corps) and Guardsmen (Coast Guard). That being said the U.S. Air Force does have special forces who do ground operations, and most SGC airmen were special forces trained. Also, just as an FYI, less than 5% of air force personnel actually fly aircraft ;)

LOL one of the worst mistake they did was in the pilot! there was a major, he had major insignia on his lapels but had tech sergeant rank on his shoulders lol. I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!
If the US Military is involved via advisor, they will make sure that the show or movie will NEVER be 100% accurate. The last thing they want is for someone to learn all the customs and courtesies and be able to sneak on to a base or into a govt building. US Military advisors will make sure there will be at least a few glaring discrepancies. Usually with the uniform
Nice video. Just saw this. For some reason, this video was out of sync. Or at least that's how it appeared on my screen. The voices were out of sync with the people talking. Don't know what the problem was. Anyway it was good to see Brad Wright, and other actors from Stargate. I thought that was neat when they invited Jumper, and Ryan on the set of SG. Pretty Cool! Thanks for posting. :-)
macjackfan so you just have to get to the ISS speed it's orbital velocity to .99 lightspeed then activate the black hole kernel and spin it to 13C -I《》MAss- view this video and it should mate up fine
I really love it when the makers of a show "make out" with their material know what I mean? they really get into that stuff and make it more authentic and realistic
Yes, they do. They're called Pararescue (PJs). They go in and extract people from behind enemy lines. Do a search on Google and check out the description on the AF's website.
Where do we sign up, is there any shortage of people who want to explore ancient ruins and find ufos? i have a stupid question..the soldiers seen in sg1 the other sg teams..would they be air force personnel or would they be soldiers from the regular army?? it's just im not american and have no idea on how the american air force works..whether they'd have ground troops or not etc....
They are great... anyway.. am i the only one to think that the guy at the beginning is identical to Major Davies??? I don't know..he doesn't really look like him, but i don't know he kind resembles him... don't know...
Yeah, he actually said it wrong. SG-1's record is "the longest running American science fiction show"... also, saying that it outran the original Star Trek is kind of lame... because, though a great show, it only lasted 3 seasons. :) But, still, this is a cool clip.
And after all PR that Stargate did to the Airforce, they didn't find a few millionths dollars to continue the show? At least to finish the movies, "for cry out loud"?
@@tomboard1 It is very patriotic saying, thank you. But they did find way to give to the Richard Dean Anderson the Brigadier General rank. If I understand it right, this is also not for free. Ofcourse this is small money compared to the movie. And how about compared to the one f-15 eagle fighter jet? Are you seriously believe that this price is a problem for the air force?

Because of how well a job Stargate SG-1 did in promoting the Air Force, they made Richard Dean Anderson an honorary Brigade General.
wasn't he made a Major General?
@@captain61games49 honorary brigade general IN REAL LIFE

Yeah, the Air Force was basically just there to keep the way the military is portrayed as accurately as possible...
They also show it for its flaws which is cool
yeah, i just love it how the air force has so much faith in the show. sg1 has defiantly given me a different perspective the air force!
what about the award of hononary brigadier general that RDA get? I didn't see it is mention in here.
It was a five minute clip. They left lots of things out.
Stargate SG-1 is the longest running American Sci-Fi series. The longest would be Dr Who. (and, yes, I know the main studio was in Vancouver)
Unfortunately the CW show Supernatural took that title from Stargate SG1.
But on the bright side a lot of the same actors appear on both shows
This is so informative and I love Rick and Amanda been in them, I just so love this show

jack + sam forever :)
They also say SG1 "outlasts even the original Star Trek series". It does, but TOS was only 4 seasons long anyway. Even Hercules outlasts it.
Actually TOS was 3 seasons but if you include the animated series then it's 5 seasons of Star trek because TAS was 2 seasons
But then 7 seasons of 3 other series, 11 movies or so, Enterprise, the Animated series
4? um, are you from behind that Quantum mirror thingie? Here in these parts it was 3, lessin' been Mandellaized.
Except that Stargate was made in Canada! For all its talk Hollywood commonly made show in Canada to get a tax break.
ironwarmonger you're being technical. We all know the term Hollywood is often used as a shorthand for the entertainment industry.
I guess they have never heard of Doctor Who, 52 years and still running.
Tony BMW yes but it was not on all 52 years
and its was for US tv series. And still holds it if you don't count comic book shows or shows on the paranormal.
Before it went into a hiatus Dr Who was still on the telly for almost 30 years.
26 years
Tony BMW still longest-running military sci-fi

Kinda of funny that SG1 has helped with Air Force recruiting.
The air force made RDA a general IRL becuase of how much he helped.
Just like top gun helped with the navy..
