Such a delicious voice! The story? Horrifying! Moriarty wasn’t the only evil. Doyle was such an excellent writer, and I love the 2 different settings. Thank you for posting.
So glad to hear the Sherlock stories in the narration that reflects the culture. Better than my internal American English interpretation would be. Something gets lost in the reading translation of a person's inner voice, and hearing the works in their natural linguistic context really allows one to appreciate the works more. Super job. Thank you.
My Goodness! That story was so enthralling! Ive been wanting to hear it for so long but because of the parts 1 & 2 taking over 6hrs in total ive had to wait until i knew i wouldnt be disturbed & had nothing pressing to attend to & today was that day & My! Was it worth the wait. It was quite stupendous! & you Mr Wagland did it every ounce of justice so i award you praise of the very highest magnitude 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Thank You Thank You.
What an incredible story. And the narration was breathtaking. The timing, the characters, such poise and skilled narration. Thank you Mr. Wagland for your outstanding reading. Your work is greatly appreciated.
Absolutely delicious. One of the best Conan Doyle stories yet, and based on real American history. As always, Greg Wagland keeps us enthralled with his exquisite voice. Don't miss Part 1!
I love this one the most. Such detailed imagery, as always, and the story within has stayed with me like a vivid dream, a brilliantly eerie, ominous evocation of the American settlers... très magnifique! 💖
@@sherlock_holmes_magpie_audio Anytime Wagz, was funny last night my lovely wife & I sat listening to one of your masterpiece's of mind inducing orgasm'z🤣.. I didn't see anyone below mention it, so I'll note that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle based the plot of this story on a real story. The real bad guys were the Molly Maguires, and I think the real Pinkerton agent may have been named McParlan (not sure 'bout the last). Anyway, I still intend to read the story written by the actual Pinkerton agent! (I just checked -- the Pinkerton agent was named: James McParland)
A delightful experience of listening to almost seven hours of this superb reading, inclusive of part 1&2, and I had the book in my lap to read the text simultaneously!! Wonderful!
Along with "A Study in Scarlett," Sir Author wrote two eponymous late 19th Century American Westerns. Amazing how Moriarty had such tentacles even in rural Appalachia.
I've been waiting patiently for this 1! Thank you Greg, you are the best Sherlock narrator by at least a country mile..... Here's to the deductive mind. Cheers!
It's quite funny really, this is the longest part of all the books without sherlock in it.. At least til the end that is, but it's weirdly my fave of all the longer sherlock stories because its a story within a sherlock story
Yeah it does glamerise the criminal fraternity but at least birdy brought them down, sadly the end wasn't perfect but again if all endings were happy ever after it would be tedious
Just finished. How i WISH i was just starting out!! Quite reminiscent of another where we must eventually hear the full accounting of a man's history, following as the thread rewinds~ its a brilliant literary device, and clearly, ACD is a master

Oh my. The last time I read this, I was 8 years old, and barely understood the import of the larger story. I forgot it as unimportant. Wow. You read it beautifully, Mr. Wagland. A haunting tale. I'd like to think, as Doyle hints, that it was Ted Baldwin whom Douglass bested. But we may never know.
***SPOILERS*** (sort of) Oh, this was wonderful. I’ve always loved the Sherlock stories. But this is the first one that made me cry, “Get Out!” when the twist was revealed! LOL. Beautifully read as ever. Conan Doyle really didn't seem comfortable writing Holmes novels, other than the Hound of the Baskervilles they are little more than short stories, wrapped around another story. He famously tried of Holmes, perhaps he used him to get a readership for stories which interested him more.

Yeah, that was my first thought! But I think he knew Moriarty would have found out anyway. Holmes suggested Moriarty had a spy in the house (probably one of the servants), and the spy would have found out and told Moriarty what actually happened.
