      @@thatfirst9423 Yes that's the principal. The big focus is to strike the foot at the beginning of the beat (especially on the slows where people tend to be to slow & the timing gets blurred) This principal works for dancers of all levels. Beginners right up through the world champions. We teach this to all of our students. This is how Megan and I approached in competitively. We only lost 2-step a handful of times over all the years we competed. Hope that helps - Brian

    Your professional swing technique applied to country is very nice in that you are very smooth and continuous and not abrupt and choppy. You don't see that everyday. You also don't go unnecessarily high or away from your partner with the hands when leading which helps her balance, frame and footwork. Very very well done and super nice.

    I am making same observation I noted with other tutorials. PLEASE do this to music after your tutorials. Telling people how to do it versus actually dancing it to music are very different. Students learn faster and quicker if they relate the patterns to the music. So please provide music at the end using all the patterns taught. Thank you.

      Hi George. Of course it's different. Dances change over time. I did start two stepping in a country bar in Kentucky in the late 1990's so I have a little street cred :-) I also have several world titles and was elected to the country dance hall of fame so I have some competition cred too :-) I've spend a lot of time researching the history of tow step - See this quick video: ruclips.net/video/j2zptHX2mpQ/видео.html The above video is most certainly a direct version of country two step from the bars of the 1980's and 1990's. It obviously looks different as dance styles do evolve and change over time. All that being said there are several styles of two step done in several different ways depending on where you are in the world. That probably explains most of the difference. Thanks for the support and I hope you're out there dancing no matter what the style :-) Best wishes from Louisville KY -Brian B & Ms Megan

    If you were teaching this in a dance class, would you recommend having them in a line or in a complete circle? I’m just a little confused on how all the patterns would connect and the easiest way to do it

    • @WestCoastSwingOnline
      @WestCoastSwingOnline  4 года назад +1

      It's much easier to teach in a line but it's not very practical. So 95% of the time we end up teaching in a circle. You just have to make sure you demo from different sides of the room so people understand the correct dance alignment. Hope that helps! -Brian

    how does quick-quick-slow-slow match up with 4/4 music?? I cant find any tutorial where it shows how to find rhythm. Basic two-step seems to be a 3 beat dance. I honestly dont get it

    • @WestCoastSwingOnline
      @WestCoastSwingOnline  2 года назад

      Hey Ryan, You're right. It does not match. In fact there are 2 ways you might see it counted. I describe them both in this video over on our other channel: ruclips.net/video/QBL8w5nLWmw/видео.html
      The 'rhythm' is still the same, quick quick slow slow. It's the 'timing' that is what I think you're confused about and yes you're right the dance does not 'fit neatly' with an 8 count basic to 8 beats of music. Most dances end up this way as you get going with different moves so i wouldn't let it throw you off too much.
      Take a peek at that other video and feel free to email us www.westcoastswingonline.com/contact-us/ and I'm happy to answer any questions and offer up any resources we might have to help you out!

    It's important to point out in each & every video that there are ONLY two (2) dance styles done on ANY social Dance Club/Lounge anywhere in the World. Spot/Rhythm & Progressive/Traveling. The congestion Problem (s) we all run into these days is that Dance Instructors do not continually reinforce (Over & Over/ Ad Nauseum ),...... All Spot/Rhythm Dance Styles should be done in the CENTER of the Dance Floor,......Progressive/Traveling Dance Styles are done in the two (2) outside lanes of the Dance Floor. Slower Progressive/Traveling Dancers on the inside Lane & the faster moving dances in the Outside FAST Lane. This way, we can ALL perform our dance of choice at the very same time to each particular Music Selection. Thank You!

      Great questions! I'm not a historian 2-Step but it does have a LOT of regional differences. This video would be catogorized as the most modern version of Texas 2-Step although if you were to go to Texas, the dance may very well look different depending on where you dance it but it's still the same dance. Arizona Two Step, Triple Two Step, Nightclub Two Step and Double Two step are all different dances with slightly to very different structures from the Two Step we have in this video. I hope that helps a bit.

    You need to explain the beat count vs the step count.... you have six counts of music but only taken 4 steps... step count is 1235... leaving out the 4 and the six... always starting on the downbeat... if you start on the upbeat your out of sync with the music... you count the music as down up down down. The beats per minute varies from song to song!

      @@johnduda8481 I understand. Dancing it tricky for all of us. What you're going through is totally normal for all of us. Keep your head up. Best wishes, Brian

    Thanks 4 posting ..I teach ballroom , and there are similarities 2 ballroom Waltz and Foxtrot with the frame ... I wanted 2 familiarize myself with this dance when occasionally students ask 2 dance C2step
    U just needed a bigger space 2 be able 2 move across the floor showing how y'all travel

      Thanks Prince. We have a full studio but to keep the camera still we chose to dance it in front of the backdrop. BTW do you do any WCS with your students? -Brian

      Ultimately no. It's customary to start on the Quick, Quick but once you've started it will work either way!
