📸Jan 2024, Zone 6, Chicago, IL, USA Hey there, Batavia here! During the second week of January 2024, I harvested the last of the vegetables from my 2023 garden which included collard greens, chard, parsley and a little kale and celery. I am super pleased as this is the latest I have had veggies in the gardens! Thanks for watching!
Whoa! Impressive! I'm in a zone 6 NY snow belt and winter definitely arrived. Minus temps for several days ATP. No garden survivors--so I love to see this! Congratulations!🎉
Many thanks! I picked these goodies the week of Jan 8. Last week, we had brutally cold weather here in Chicago too (-10 was the lowest). We should get back to the 30's and 40's as a high, this week.
@@BBettaGarden I think we might hit a high in the 30s toward the end of the week also. We'll see! Winter can be unpredictable--I know Chi-Town can relate! I'm honestly ok with it. I had strong "indoor winter gardening" ambitions ("best laid plans of mice and men," lol), but it honestly feels as if the last growing season just ended and the next one is already starting. So a few days of downtime are, surprisingly enough, alright with me. Lol
Hello there I’m in 8a. We had a hard freeze Monday and Tuesday. For the last 5 days we’ve been below 40 degrees. I doubled my freeze cloth. My brassicas are ok. Next week we’ll be in the 60’s. I’m gonna harvest then!!!
Hi Bàtavia, I came across your channel and I like your garden. I would like to know what what type of fencing are you using to protect your vegetables from squirrels, racoons and possums.😄
Heya Loretta! Thanks for checking out my video. I mostly use garden netting and PVC pipe to create barriers or poultry wire. This playlist has a mixture of shorts and long form videos but should give you an idea of some of the ways I protect my veggies. Let me know if you have questions about a specific method. Heya garden neighbor! I can't believe it's already the end of March. My tomatoes are about a week old and my peppers around 4-6 weeks old (depending on the variety). I'm going to get some peas planted outside and get a few more flowers and get going on my okra and some melons inside, probably after Easter.

REALLY NICE VEGGIE CAGES! GREAT WINTER HARVEST, SAVED A LOT OF MONEY.
Thanks!!
You know I love your greens.🥬🥬I'm looking forward to seeing you grow your new goodies. I hope all is well. 🥰🥰🥰
It's almost time!!😊
@@BBettaGarden Hey! Nice to hear from you.🥰Yep, I've been doing a few things already.

What a difference a week makes. Our highs are gonna be near 40 for the next week. And the growing seasons seem to be overlapping now 😊.
@@BBettaGarden DEFINITE overlap. We're getting a "warm spell" too. We'll see what February brings us!

What's the saying, after a good frost (or freeze) those brassicas should be good and sweet!💚
Greens look good but those cages are great. Do you have a video on how to build them?
Heya! Thanks! And I had a contractor build it out on 2020 but didn't film it (still kicking myself because a lot of people ask about it).
Nice video.
Thanks!

End of March 2024. What are you starting!? I'm in Dekalb. I did a flat of peppers 2 weeks ago and a flat of tomatoes and other goodies this weekend.
