Best solution Ive seen so far. Getting my triple tree out of my Super Tenere is proving difficult. Throttle cables and brake hoses go through wire retainers that use these stupid bolts. getting a new handle bar while I have all this stuff apart.
You are right about burning each cylinder with steady heat for about three minutes. I think I burned it until I smelled something cooking off then tried it. Came right out.
Some kids stole me bike from a garage and broke all three locks, scratched "her" on both sides and made a really deep scratch in the tank with a screwdriver just to take down the mount for me gopro camera. In other words, they messed "her" up pretty bad. So thx again for this really helpful video.
The easiest way to get those torque snap off bolts out is by drilling through the head with a drill bit roughly 1/4" in diameter until the head comes off. Then you can remove the ignition and deal with the stud left screwed into top of triple tree. They are installed with red loctite that only loosens with heat. It doesn't take much heat to get them to loosen. Just drilling the heads off created enough heat to get mine to back out with a pair of vise grips by being quick about it drill them out then quickly get vise grips on them to spi studs out.
Cheers mate you really helped me a lot!!! I was really busting my balls trying to find a video on how to change the ignition lock, so once again cheers for the video.
Great stuff Azz. My XJ6 looks much the same but has an immobiliser fitted does yours have one. I need to change the lot as it is a high mileage bike and the lock is plain worn out. I'm thinking it may upset the immobiliser if I disconnect it. What say you Sir. Cheers.
Hello Azz , i notice you had taken your own Barrel out and put it into the new ignition Barrel so I take it i could do the same with mine. all thats wrong with my ignition is it has worn now over the yrs and the key doesnt turn the lock unless you jiggle the key abit. so instead of changeing the whole ignition unit i can just change the actual barrel. although a bike mechanic told me they cant do that . thanks. I Hope your back on the road now and rideing with the wind :)
Nice video man, my R6 was recently stolen, they cut the wires right at the ignition barrel as well!!! WHY DO THEY CUT IT SO SHORT!?!?!?! They also used a screwdriver and hammer down the ignition barrel. So basically I need to do the same as you, although I don't see how I could use the same key in a new ignition barrel??? Any help is appreciated!
Actually, i didn t have too. i decided to remove the part with the contacts. I just used a hacksaw to cut through the body and enough of the screw to use a flat blade screwdriver like you did for the key barrel. The red 12v wire had detached from the copper pad. Just soldered it back on and it works perfectly. Also one of the spring loaded copper pads was stuck in the down position. i pryed it back up and made sure it was free to move. Your video was very helpfull. Thanks a lot
@@azzkam8972 I'm about to replace mine on my gsxr 750 ignition fuse keeps blowing fuel pump want prime I've put it off for awhile and it caught up to me I hope I don't have to remove my tree manual says just undo the two security hex screws I will have my torch handy tho
You didn't need to strip all that to get the barrel of its 2 nuts on the underside of the yolk someone tried to nick mine and broke the nuts of to get to the barrell wires
Great vid! Only detailed video I could find on changing the ignition lock! Thanks for the vid!

motovlog mutant thanks mate glad it was helpful
On my 06 r6s the lower triple clamp was enough to hold the forks in place.
You should have taken those two bolts off and the handgrips and all the electronics stay together. Took me about 5 min to pull apart
Great video, nicely done
My r6 steering lock not releasing even with the key..what must I do ?
Old R6 🏁👍
I cut a slot too and could not turn the screws. I ll try to heat them like you did.
Andre Guiristante yup definitely needs to be heated up to soften the locktight

If you had to only remove those two bolts to get ignition out what's the point in removing the triple tree???
burntdog8277 it would be very difficult if not impossible to carve out the bolts then heat them in order to remove them without removing the tree.

You my friend....are an F***ing lifesaver!
Great video mate really helpful thanks 👍
Thanks a bunch ! :)
thnq so much
You didn't need to strip all bars etc and switches off, they separate from yoke
What year is this bike bro?
CONCEPT DESIGNS 1999 bro
You didn't need to strip all that to get the barrel of its 2 nuts on the underside of the yolk someone tried to nick mine and broke the nuts of to get to the barrell wires
I just asked that exact??? I'm about to do my gsxr750
Some scumbag snapped my steering lock, one of those screws is snapped inside mine...Theifing rats
So I need a new barrel
Can I just keep the old one n install it to my new upper tripple tree?
+1
Great video. Does this fix the steering lock too? Thanks
Yes the new ignition barrel lock has a steering lock as part of the assembly
Thank you. This video helped me
