Thank you! I've been going off of my own mentality that I needed a windows computer to import anything from the camera to edit (I've had the camcorder for only a month so far). Now I understand. :)
FCP 7 or X? You can go into the camera through the Finder and search for the .mts files. MTS files don't play in quicktime, but if you have VLC player you could view the files. Transfer them onto your computer, then open FCP and import from there.
I would connect both the camera and external drive at the same time. Then, using your desktop as a bridge of sorts, transfer from the camera right to external. Make sure you transfer the .mts files.
Premiere pro does a good job of managing the mts files. It just takes a little while for premiere to process the audio. We don't convert the files to another format.
Ryan Salim Select which memory or use the built in memory. Then in the finder browse for the mounted drive. Look for canon drive and find the avchd file. The videos are recorded as .mts files so they won't natively play in quicktime. If you right click the AVCHD file and hit show package contents you'll be able to find the .mts files under a folder called "stream." You might have to right click another file after and do "show package contents" after you've done it on the AVCHD file. Hope this is helpful.
Hello, I'm needing to just dump the video files onto a Mac or an attached remote drive for editing later. What is the quickest way to get my files from my XA10 to a HD that I could connect to later for editing? Thanks in advance for your help

Thank you! I was wondering what the missing step was. Too bad the camera doesn't automatically detect when it's hooked up to a computer.
Really helpful...thanks so much! Subscribed for sure
Thanks Zzx4k. And for the subscription. We have many more videos and tutorials
on the way.
