As someone who’s had little-no disposable income for the past year or two for fashion/beauty/make-up, I really enjoyed watching this more culture-focused episode! Actually, even in general, I think I find this kind of content more interesting (although I love your style and fashion content too!). Loved this 💕

personally, I believe that being 'apolitical' can only really be achieved through a position of privilege. Also, I don't think that we can write Pewdipie off because 'he's not an actual Neo-Nazi', he said a lot of racist things, not just 'insensitive'.
Lucy, I always find your videos so soothing and refreshing (I've been a quiet viewer for quiet a while now)! I have to be honest, though, I'm really startled to hear that you've been feeling "not against" PewDiePie. I haven't listened to the podcast you mentioned, but to me it doesn't really matter if he says he identifies as "apolitical"; his actions are actively harmful to marginalized people, myself included. Does he actually "believe" the things he says? I honestly don't feel like that matters nearly as much as the fact that he says them. Whether or not he is "technically" a neo-Nazi, his content is easily and repeatedly used to prop up white supremacist ideologies and behaviors. His content has never been apolitical.
100% with you on his past content - it was outright wrong for him to say the things he said even as a joke. Would really recommend you give the interview a listen though, it was a very interesting listen and much more nuanced than I portrayed in this vid!
Also I completely agree re: his influence. Whether he likes it or not, his content is now incredibly political and he has a responsibility to manage that

about pewdiepie being apolitical.... apolitical, when used by cishet rich white males, means in most cases that those people are so blinded by their privilege that they think they have the right to say "i'm on neither sides". it's especially worrying because situations like covid and the way marginalized people are being treated recently should make every person who's in the position of being educated worried about this "apolitical" stance that ultimately helps no one, and is an edulcorated way of saying you lean on the right.
Totally feel you re: the inherent privilege of being apolitical when you’re a white cis het man. Would highly recommend listening to his interview still - didn’t make me go “oh poor guy” but did open my eyes to how some people think differently to me in a way I hadn’t considered before x

That's so interesting about what you said about The Mandalorian! I loved it, but I do get what you mean about connecting to the character. As an actor, I find expressions are everything, and it's so interesting that they decided to remove that from the equation. I mainly watched it for Baby Yoda as it was so adorable! x

Nothing at all to do with you, just with PewDiePie. Haven't we all just learned that being apolitical is a god damn privilege and that not being actively alt-right can still mean you further a racist system which is just as bad? No wonder people are outraged
