  • @japanvintagecamera8869

    Mine has shorter legs, but a much longer coat, and it takes about an hour to strip him properly. He doesn't mind the pulling and plucking, though it is hard to get him to remain still for so long. It is best to do this every other week or so, it keeps the coat fuller. If you let the hair grow to its full length, when you strip it, there is very little undercoat, and you'll usually end up with some bald spots. Doing it every other week makes the coat look very thick and full, even when it is short, and your dog gets quickly into the habit of having his coat regularly stripped.

    Musste ich letzten auch machen mit meinem Jagdterrier und hab es zum ersten mal überhaupt gemacht, ich wollte es gleich von Hand versuchen da ich wollte dass er noch “natürlich“ aussieht danach. Ging wunderbar und einfacher als ich gedacht habe; und ihm hat es auch gefallen. Also es ist einfacher als ein Huhn zu rupfen!

    My girl can't handle the trimming. It's too stressful for her. Had to sedate her last time so she could "skip" the trimming. Nothing helps. But surely she needs the trimming, Thanks for your video. The guy (dog) on this video stands the trimming process so good!

    • @LostRiverMinis
      @LostRiverMinis  5 лет назад +1

      Oh no, that sounds horrible! I've never heard of a dog that has to be sedated for trimming 😮
      How old is she? Are you able to brush her?
      You should train brushing 2-3 times a day, just for a few seconds and then up to a few minutes.

      @@LostRiverMinis Well She is going to be 3 this year. On the first attempt of trimming she behaved very very good (though it's painful for her to trim the areas around the neck and face). On the second attempt (in 5 months) she started to bark at the first sight of the girl who trimmed her last time (the same girl, she's a good professional). So we left without trimming and agreed to return in a week and that I should walk her till she's too tired. And I did. But the same happened - Bo (Her dogs name) found some energy to make everything to get out. But she was too "hairy" so we decided to take those actions.
      I live in Moscow so I trim her twice a year (in mid spring and in early autumn). And - that is where I guess the problem is - I didn't trim her before she was 2 years old (just because I didn't know that).
      As for brushing. She's ok with brushing her spine. She squeaks when i brush her face and neck (where hair sticks to each other). So I'm trying to prepare her for spring trimming and try to "trim" her a bit everyday. But she continues to squeak and tries to flee the trimming (face and neck only) all the time. So in this way I'm kinda sticking to your advice about brushing her daily.
      Will try to upload a short movie with Bo (so you can take a look at her if you want to) ;)
      Thanks for your advice!

    • @ffighter

      @@LostRiverMinis Uploaded two videos to my channel (trimmed and untrimmed "Version" of Bo hahahaha) ;)

    • @LostRiverMinis
      @LostRiverMinis  5 лет назад

      @@ffighter thank you for the videos. She's a nice girl! It's weird that she was ok with the first trimming but refused to get a haircut the second time. It is good, also essential, that you are practicing everyday. You should touch and strip her after every walk when you get home - and don't forget to tell her what a good girl she is! ;)
      Maybe you should also wait a little bit longer before you go to the groomer's. Sometimes it takes 6-8 months until the coat is ripe and ready to be trimmed, and if the coat isnt't lose enough it is a painful procedure for the dog.

    I have a one year old broken coat Russell Terrier. I have been using a furminator every day, but he still sheds a lot. I have watched your video. How often should I be stripping my dogs coat? Thank you.

    • @LostRiverMinis
      @LostRiverMinis  8 лет назад +2

      Don't use a Furminator for a Russell it is really bad for the coat and probably the reason why he's shedding so much.
      It depends on your dogs coat how often you have to strip it. My broken coated male needs to be stripped every 6-8 weeks.

    • @LostRiverMinis
      @LostRiverMinis  9 лет назад

      It's different from dog to dog but normally, you should be able to do it without any pressure ;)
      Yes, that's true. It's the same with broken coated dogs, you need to strip the hair to get that dead coat off so new can grow.

    How often you should do it? And how would you recommend to use a special brush tool?

    • @LostRiverMinis
      @LostRiverMinis  7 лет назад +2

      Arnoldo R. De Leon that varies from dog to dog, there are rough coated Russell that you can groom every 3-4 months, but sometimes you have to wait 6 months until the coat is ready to be stripped out.
      If you don’t want to do it barehanded you can buy special knives for trimming. I have another video online where I’m using a knife.

    Hi, I really want to try hand stripping my Wire Fox Terrier but can't find much videos on the particular breed. I have only found very expensive hand strippers in my area so I want to try this on my own. My puppy is 9 months now and has never been stripped or clipped, do I just strip her whole body? She's just a pet, not a show dog and I've been trying to research hand stripping but I can only find show dog hand books that talk about rolling the coat, tools and other things which have only confused me more. I would think by age 9 months her whole coat is shedded, right? Could you give me anymore advice on this for first timers?

      Dale Garnett the hair I'm pulling out is dead and it is essential to do that. That's common for this breed, you must do it to prevent them from getting skin problems. The only reason he's not standing still is that he was a puppy and it was his first time on the table and the first time he got trimmed.
