      Kids have been calling 'em "cold air intakes" for years but these lipstick tubes are primarily for show instead of go when you're sitting at idle in south Florida at a stoplight with that open air filter sucking in engine temps you could cook a lobster with....that's not performance...at least for city driving. Good for the 'Pike or I95 and for the chowdas in the northeast though...at least "cold air" would be accurate when you're driving your Giulia in February. All my cars loved that cold air with those conical open air filters when I took 'em out in 20-degree temps. lol My .02, one of the first mods one should do with these jobbers is installing a Go Pedal. That little beast worked wonders in my modified Abarth and likely will perform equally well in my Ti.

      @@romeomargot-picquendar1281 better than nothing but without a heat shield it's not going to do much especially if you are at the lights and try to take off. An open filter in an enginebay with no heat shielding is a great way to lose power 95% of the time.

    This is the same intake I put on the 2018 Ti Sport last year. I found the Euro Compulsion V2 intake to definitely high quality and it's a fairly simple DIY job. It takes about 1 hour to do. Love the swoosh sound and it does feel a bit more "peppy" in Dynamic Mode. EC also makes some high quality wheel spacers which I have installed and it brings the rear wheels out 17mm, the front 5mm. I also installed the rear lip spoiler as it adds a really nice look to the car.

    • @RonsRides
      @RonsRides  4 года назад

      Martyrn-> I have an ‘18 Ti Sport, Volcano black. I also installed a similar spoiler (same EXACT look, but only cost $170) & have been looking to up the performance, too. • @zapalskic

    Some people made some strange comments. What I was saying is when I install intakes I measure 3 metrics. 1. CFMs, 2. Fuel consumption, & 3. Intercooler temp (I am not sure the setup of the Gulia). A cold air kit should increase the first 2 and decrease the third.

    • @mkm1856
      @mkm1856 4 года назад +1

      Yeah, it would basically just be two of the exact same cars racing side-by-side after factoring in the heat soak, like the commenter above pointed out....it's literally just a single-cone air intake...+ his other mod - a custom exhaust - doesn't add any power either. If it had either a "phase 1" or "phase 2" tune from euro compulsion, then it would actually be interesting to see what kind of power those 2.0L i4 engines can churn out....🤷‍♂️

    Great work as always, Ron, i finally trade in my Red Sport 400 for Lexus ES 350 and man this car is amazing, no comparisons to Red Sport or even Stinger, thats just my opinion ofc, ride quality is excellent thats what i wanted, i was so tired and exhausted from that ridiculously stiff ride from Red Sport and now i am so happy with Lexus, it has plenty of power and extremely comfortable ride, i will never ever get car with ridiculously stiff ride like Red Sport, never but to each their own ofc, i will continue watching ur videos regardless, keep up in great work!

  • @amccann99

    Pretty much a proven fact that intakes like this Do Not increase HP/TQ. If they do, it's hardly anything worth the cost. Nothing you can't get with a simple k&n stock panel filter replacement. The only real benefit would be the turbo spool and blowoff sounds you get, if you like that sound.

    I know OC is just trying to make videos, so i'll applaud him on making a video. However.. cold air intakes don't actually add power, in this case of a tight confined engine bay, you're allowing the filter to stuck in hot air rather than below engine bay level temps from an airbox which protects you from engine temps (and in this case of a turbo car, you boost air temps increase as well effectively making you less boost, not significant enough but the power is decreased)

    • @change929

    I do think the car looks really sharp and the intake looks nice. Without being disrespectful, they installed your air filter right behind the radiator fans. It is blowing super heated air into your engine. I would guess the factory filter goes through the grill.

    • @AlokSomani
      @AlokSomani 4 года назад

      I do believe the factory intake pulls from the grill, as I think cold air intakes should. There are closed cold air intakes available for this car, which is probably the route I'd go.

    Dropping the rear box increases 4 banger noise for sure, but one needs to consider that back pressure has an important factor in how Alfa designed these turbo 4’s and how they best perform. Seems to me they would have opened up the rear box more if a performance factor was to be gained. The psychological effect of noise = more power is strong and a great marketing tool for aftermarket bolt on’s. I’m no expert here, but isn’t widely known that sucking in hot air through open filters in the engine compartment a proven negative for more horsepower? I would be highly interested in seeing a Dyno test follow up on this car?

    • @RonsRides

      I know you said you're no expert but you've made some good points Mark., now to add to that Euro Compulsion does have an official dyno readout on their site with this intake. Rons Rides I really can’t argue with advertising.. I’ve just been around the block on all these bolt ons, and unless you get into their ICU’s and tweak them you can’t expect serious gains. I’d suggest a simple Go Peddle if the mod bug bites. This preserves the integrity of the stock car value for ending lease trade-in or resale.

      The Q4 is 5.1 with the stock all-seasons, maybe a tenth or so faster with better tires as the stock all-seasons seem to slip just a bit on hard launch. The Q2 variant is about .4 or .5 slower.

    I don’t know why people still install CAI that has an open cone inside the engine bay. All these expensive mod that was put in the car are ok, but it has to done correctly. I have a Go Pedal, ECM and Sprint airfilter that installs directly to the stock airbox. My car will blow that car away for half the price I spent on my Giulia. $460 for an open cone CAI is a bit pricy and very unnecessary. But that’s just me….
