Greetings from Windermere, Florida zone 9b 🇺🇸 I just found your channel. Wow! Your Worm 🪱 Farm looks great 👍 I'm going to try and make your recipe for my Can-O-Worms Wigglers 🪱
I've been trying out this chow. It looks and smells nice. Its a very good recipe. My worms eat it very quickly. My red wigglers have noticeably fattened up in just a week. My enc are slower growing of course but they have been dropping cocoons like crazy. Be sure to watch the 'Giant European Nightcrawlers - The Bin #3 Saga' video on how to feed it.
Good video! Thank you! It's easiest to buy the oyster shell already ground up that is used as a soil amendment. We actually use pulverized dolomite limestone instead, which is ground even finer and it's super cheap and an equally good source of calcium.
@@russellbublitz8409 Wow! You must have good feed stores where you are! The best we can find in the city here in Los Angeles is "pullet-sized oyster shell and crushed coral," which is $12.99 for 50 pounds. I imagine that it is not ground very fine. Would that work? Do you happen have a link for what oyster shell you are using just so we can see how the material looks? Thanks!
@@WillAndAlyssa Also in So Cal, Crushed anything coral or oyster is going to be spendy as it is trendy. Pulverized dolomite limestone is equal or better and you can get it at almost any hardware store or nursery.
Thank you for showing us your worm chow receipt. The sound of your videos is really bad. A lot of noise, but the receipt is great. I will try it for sure to my African worms. Can i substitute the alfa alfa by brown rice pouder???
This recipe is the equivalent of worm amphetamines! Until recently I was only feeding my RWs scraps, and they were doing fine...castings every six month-ish, regular reproduction, everything fairly average. I fed them this recipe and it pushed them into high gear...more castings faster, so much reproduction I actually had to split my worms for the first time, and fatter, healthier worms! And I noticed this after the first time I used it. It worked so well I had to scale back how much I was giving them. Thanks for the info!
Thanks for sharing your experience. I come up with this recipe after trying different ingredients for one year and finally I get the perfect balance. My worms are happy and the casting is amazing, the labs for the casting showed that the casting have everything plants needs. 🪴
thanks for sharing! love the food processor, will check it out . Will give this a try but will have to modify the formula to ingredients i can get here cheap ( Philippines) vermicast does not sell for as much here as in western countries .about 6 dollars for 40 kilo bag a bit more in the big cities ( 3 days away )
Very nice! I always thought if I ever went with a dry food recipe that I would make sure a good grit was included and cool to see you used multiple sources for that. Excellent video!
I have been watching the videos and enjoy them a lot. Thanks for sharing how you do things. I would like to know, when you start a new bin you put about 4 pounds of bedding to start with do you add more bedding during the 7 weeks or do you just feed them the worm chow for the 7 weeks?
Looks like a very good recipe, I'm gonna give it a try. Where did you getting that processor?? Thanks so much for sharing this video with us. I'm so, glad I found you.
Thank for the video. I can't find fresh alfalfa around me - is there anything I can substitute it with? Also, can I use eggshells in place of oyster shells?
What an excellent video, would you mind writing the ingredients? You have a very strong accent and I can’t understand the last few ingredients? Many thanks
Right now once a week with 12 trays of ENC + 6 blues + around 30 lbs of African. When I will be full stocked after I move all the red wigglers i will have 100 trays of red wigglers and I really don't know at moment how much the reds will eat.
I have started feeding worm chow to my red wriggler worms in the last 4-6 weeks. I just sprinkle a little on top of the bedding about every other day because they eat it so fast. I don’t measure, just sprinkle. I haven’t added the alfalfa yet, though. I noticed some people use the alfalfa pellets. I’ve been noticing a lot of activity in the bin, and more eggs. I can’t say they are getting fat, but the worm chow seems to be encouraging more egg laying. Sometimes I’ll add some food scraps, but not as much anymore. Do you think it’s harming the vermicompost if they are only getting worm chow? Also, I noticed you have lots of cardboard in there, too.
@@northeastworms I think I’m confused by reproduction bins vs regular worm bins that produce vermicompst. I’m just a gardener who wants compost. Please explain when I should feed worm chow to my worms and when the should get food scraps and cardboard
@nancyferington1949 you can use either or both together. I use only worm chow in the reproduction bins because, in this way, I have more control about everything. I now have a big 50'x4' bin to produce casting, and for me, it is important to recycle as much as I can, and for that reason, I feed whatever I put my hand on.
I do not use them on the reproduction bins but I use on normal, casting producing bins. I add, usually, once a week but depends on how my worms eat. I try to not overfeed so I add only if almost all the food is gone. Overfeed can drive the worms bin to a lot of problems and is better to feed only when the old feeding is completely gone
Do you weigh the bedding for each tray you start? you state you start each tray with 2/2.5 pounds of worms, would like to know how much bedding you put in each tray.
I did a lot of experiments with single ingredients and different species and the worms actually eat everything. This blend is amazing not only because they eat very fast but for the results. I never had ENC this fat
I wrote down your recipe as you had it displayed on the video. A few more minutes into the video you added wheat flour, which was not part of the displayed recipe. How many parts wheat flour do you ad?
I start a breeding tray with 2/2.5 lbs. of worms for a surface of 4 Sqf. When i harvest, usually between 5 and 7 weeks, they grow to around 8/10 oz more plus a tons of babies and cocoons

Absolutely yes. Take little time and also need more space to thicken up, if they are crowded they will not fatten up

Around 3.5 oz a week x pound
