Happened to most of us at some point. When working on old cylinders now I always tell the customer that I'm not responsible for the cost of replacment if the cylinder happen to slip. That one was well past its life span anyway, shouldn't have came out of your pocket.
Been there done that. Went to undo the primary flow to replace the pipe work for the heating up-grade and the cylinder just ripped open about 150mm, lovely a 36x18 dumping its contents plus the 50 gallon in the loft and I never even knew where the mains was that was also going for it. Found the mains tuned it off, punched a hole through the ceiling below the cylinder so water poured out into a bucket and stood there chucking buckets of water through the front door until it stopped. Man did that give my heart a hard time.
Thank you for sharing mate, when things like that happened like you need to get a new cylinder due to what happened do you pay for the parts or the customer as the customer may say it wads you fault that is why new cylinder needed, just trying to know how it works when something like that happen, thanks
Pmsl at your videos 😂😂😂😂 do you cover the Cudworth area , this side of Barnsley? I have an Ideal boiler that requires a service. I have never seen my boiler being serviced with the attention to detail you take? 👍
Does anyone have experience with Aladdin EasyFit Isolator Valves, wouldn't normally use them and never have, but I've got a job in a block of flats with communal heating and I need to fit a new hot water tank in the flat, but the old isolators are seized and I cant turn off the hot water supply to the block, any thoughts.
Yes well done complete pain, but i have to say the first words out of my mouth would have been new cylinders, everything about the shape of that old one says trouble, we are never too old to learn , anyway pre lagged is a better job all round great video.
To save sucking I hold the end of hose on the spout of the cold tap and back fill hose then drop it in the bath. I drain some water from cylinder first to stop overflowing.
Ruff as. I'd have replaced the floor joist with steel beams, moved the pipes in the attic, ran my pipes on uni strut supports with rubber lined Munson's, polished and lacquered the pipes and then lagged it all in class zero and produced a fully annotated schematic for the client. Propper job that.
I wouldn’t like to replace that three port valve you have really made it awkward to get too by not moving it to the front before repositioning the cylinder . Good job done with those press fit fittings like it man
You can service those Drayton valves anyway. Take the paddle out and clean if it passing or remove the circlip and lubricate the spindle if its seized. Haven’t changed the body a Drayton valve for years (unless it’s the original with the fixed head obviously) Less likely to split a tank servicing it as well. 🙈
That top connection looked like an Essex connection ,they only had a limited lifespan most of them eventually looked as dodgy as the one on video fitting them was also a lottery .used them frequently as extra outlet to showers before the warix and wessex dip pipes were around .a far better option
This happened to me last year. 22 coming out 90⁰ for 600mm. Must have caught it, and it caused the brazed boss to leak. The customer tried to get me to pay for all the decorating. Question: Did you have to pay for the new cylinder, or did you tell them that it came to the end of its life. I.e. if you borrow a fella's car and it breaks down, do you have to pay for the repairs...
Did you not see problem coming as Sidewinders are dodgy if wrestled with !! I constantly stress to my apprentice to risk assessing as usually plumbers fault and won't get paid
nice job but shit happens motorised head better facing you or horizontal I've found as some times you just want to change the head on your next visit down the line can be a c---t to get at head screws act with out draining down ?
@@ParkesPlumbing nuts, took you 4 minutes to respond haha, we only use normal 90* ball valves here in Norway where I work. thought it was an age thing, they get stuck also after what I have experienced

Great vid pal....keep up the great work👍👍👍👍
Thanks Gary

No drain off . Didn't fit new gate valve.

Hi Nige, thanks for watching. Yes I cover cudworth and would be happy to service your boiler
What guarantees (time/years) do you get with press fittings? I have been told only 10 years on some?
Good question ..‘I’ve heard 25 years before but not 100 percent
Geberit told me if installed with training in hand they will
Guarantee the rubbers for 25 years but will last up to 50 years
Brilliant video m8
Cheers bro
What’s the auto haven for on the pipe work never heard or seen one of those before.
Removes air from the hot water circuit automatically
Old cylinders cause some stress don’t they, bet they were pleased to see the back of it and have a new one in. 👍
Weren’t pleased having to pay for itn

Great job, why did you solder the cold water in and no use your press gun? Might be a silly question?
The cylinder fittings were endfeed mate.
To save sucking I hold the end of hose on the spout of the cold tap and back fill hose then drop it in the bath. I drain some water from cylinder first to stop overflowing.
Yep that’ll work too
I use a wet vac to start it

Did you fit the Wago wiring centre - if so what do you think of them?
They’re great. Makes it very quick and easy
Previous engineer kick the shit out of the cylinder must have been a Friday afternoon struggle
Only held half the water it should lol
nice neat job happy Easter.

Great job mate. Did you have to pay for the new tank or did the customer understand the old one was a bit dodgey and cough up the cash?
I charged them parts and 1 hours labour mate I though that was fair
@@ParkesPlumbing £500 per hour? 😂
@@ParkesPlumbing more than fair. Some times you ca feel guilty even when you have warned them about the risks.
It would have never happened if they never needed the other work doing in the first instance. They should pay to be fair. Only my opinion though.
Good set of terms and conditions and good communication about the risk job done

Nice one rich
DId you have to pay for the cylinder? of did you fit it for free?
I fit it for just an hours labour and they paid for the materials. I thought that was fair

Yeh was a classic alright ... weighed in now
Always a silver lining
