Hi, small comment in regards to Brian. On the first mailbag pod Brian essentially said "CEDH isn't too expensive, it's just too expensive for you" in regards to players who think that CEDH would take a negative impact on wotc sanctioning existing CEDH events after those TO's say no to proxies. In the past the Commander Rules Committee acknowledged that pricing of cards would negatively impact the playability of commander (granted that was years ago prior to the format's growth). The reason I mention it is that in the mailbag follow-up half of this pod, Bryant says that legacy has a dwindling playerbase, which can be pinned to a variety of reasons, but I would say that eternal magic's main limiting factor is accessibility. Also in this video Brian says in response to someone trivializing other's grievances to banning cards like grief as salt motivated statements making discourse harder.
I hope I haven't gotten lost in the preamble to this point but: Brian saying something akin to "Maybe you're too poor to enjoy sanctioned CEDH" (i really don't think I'm stretching his words here I apologize if I am) actively dismisses some of the concerns real discussion about this topic.
I understand that this conversation about proxies and the reserved list and blah blah has been had ad nauseum. I know that as a prolific member of the competitive scene that this is the realistic answer you've come to in your tenure. But I think that it's at the very least short sighted of a belief to hold, and that the dwindling playership of some eternal formats has been held up by playing with proxies. Legacy has been locally proxy friendly since before I even started playing magic years ago, you guys a couple months ago were talking about how vintage was proxies when Lotuses were going for 3 figures. CEDH is on the comeup and I'd argue is so prolific because it's so proxy friendly from the start, and players are able to get in and get reps and enjoyment without investment.
I quit playing magic during the pandemic and recently got into it again, I'm less financially available so I don't really plan to buy into magic beyond what I have since I'm relatively casual, but I've played proxy legacy a bit and CEDH is something a couple of my friends are interested in. The reason I mention quitting is because I mostly sold out in 2020, most of my collection was up from when I'd bought it, but even at the best rates, I was down money. Magic cards are an ok investment for sure, but unless you take tons of time or get very lucky with price fluctuations you don't make out with a ton. I don't think it's realistic to say buying into an eternal format isn't just money gone, which none of you guys said but I've heard as an argument.
I think it's unrealistic to expect CEDH to grow forever, and it's nigh impossible for wotc to do anything about the prohibitive entry cost of formats they sort of don't care about, but I think there's some cognitive dissonance going on. Maybe I'm wrong, I don't think it's impossible for me to be, I do feel somewhat offended by Brian's statement (which I know was said with a realistic point of view and not intended to be rude) , but I think I've said my peace.

The point was “zero proxy cEDH events are selling out” as a counter to “the format can’t exist without proxies” because it has been demonstrated that it can. My harsh language on that was specifically from the capitalist business POV of a TO who doesn’t care how many active players are in discord servers but do care about how many of their event seats sell. I am pro proxy and pro accessibility and taking “you’re too poor to play cEDH” from what I said is a miss.

My conspiracy theory is that MH3 will have a card literally named "Mind Goblin" with the exact templating from MTGO. I want to believe.

The reserve list is already "fixed": play digital. But you could always print strictly superior versions of the reserve list cards each with the text "you can only have up to 0 copies of this card if __ is in your starting deck" where the blank becomes the card it is replacing. Far Black Lotus the "the stronger version would be as simple letting add 3 mana of any combination of colors. You can only have 0 copies of this card if you have Black Lotus in your starting deck"

But black lotus is more interesting when it's one color, and even if a particular card has a non intrusive way to make it different (definitionally very hard to do) how would the rest fair. and regardless wizards isn't going to print a mox with renowned 0 in a world they still care about the reserve list, and if they didn't care they would just reprint the older reserve list without jumping through hoops

I've been on a hiatus from MTG for about 3 months now. I'm personally unhappy with the way the game is being treated, and the fact that all these Eternal staples are being held ransom by a bunch of speculators who don't even play the game isn't helping my wanting to come back. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I think Magic could stand for a healthy powering down, the return of vanilla creatures, reducing word salad, stop quickfire releases back to back to back, etc.

@@WormxHarvester Art is priceless & only finds value in what people are willing pay for it. Capitalism has nothing to do with an opinion based market.
I, too, wish that Wizards should tone it down in powercreep, cards that are paragraphs of text & the constant spoiler season that is the rapid release schedule of product.
I think the only thing holding MtG up is the game's system. I love playing it & I think it's pretty solid. But I don't buy cards because I like who or what's in the art. I buy because I like the art or it's cheap or what's on hand.
I guess I'm trying to say that the "soul" of magic is foreign to me & Wizards could do to build it's foundation instead of being cheap bastards.

I dont like the All that glitters Ban. My FNMs in pauper, like i will have one this evening takes ages in comparison to modern or Legacy. The Format needs wincons! I play bogles most of the time so ban doesnt really effect me direct expect one of my bad matchup Deck (uw affinity) is now pretty dead.

The problem with All that Glitters was explained really well by Brian in one of his videos, I believe the boros synth one. Pauper is sometimes described as Legacy without the bullshit, meaning it has all the interesting decisions and gameplay, but you don't lose out of nowhere. A control deck like boros synth sometimes having a +10/+10 aura to put on their flyers to one-shot you is a problem. It's the same reason why Atog or all the storm outlets are banned.
