But I ended up watching it and found the details fascinating. Love watching professionals do their thing, all the details I don't know anything about. I love what you did here. So genius! Installers are trying to convince me to get an eight foot wide gate so landscapers can get through. Installer wants to use the rod system and I’m worried it’s going to be cumbersome to simply walk through, and that it’s going to be the weak point in the fence over time. I love what you did here, and wonder how wide it is, and if there’s a way to make that set-up cute, or have a solution for a four-foot high picket style gate? ❤
We don't like to go over 5' per gate, so that turns into a roughly 10' opening for an 8' high fence. And yes, this is totally adaptable to a 4' fence (although your gates aren't going to be as wide for a short fence of course).
Wish i could make 8ft gates like that for my boat. Need 14 ft min clearance. Any videos you guys have on making gates. I need to order that sleeve!!! ? Great vid.
Just bought these hinges and the associated latch kit. While it is expensive, it looks way better than cheapo hinges and latches. Best feature is the self-closing adjustment on the hinges.
Yay! No rods into the concrete. That’s why I watched will the end. Looking to buy a house and the yard is a blank canvas. I’d love a double gate of sorts like this, maybe with a smaller single gate near the house? Idk. We’ll see what space allows. Maybe the one side of the double gate can act as the single people gate too. Much to learn. Thanks.
First of all, it is just amazing the removable post, congratulations on that. I am just wondering What did you use to brace the gate and why did you brace it the opposite(the brace outside )way you usually to do for wood gate and the brace inside? Thank you very much for your videos
These gates are pretty light, so the brace is just a vinyl picket. We also run one brace each way on both sides of the gate. So one side looks wrong, but the other side is right. This way if you get into the field and have to mount on the other side for some reason it still has correct bracing.
If I wanted to run this lock system for a double gate without a center post, could that be achieved? I like the fact that it has a key rather than a pad lock
We need to replace the push in thumb button part of the latch that failed. Because vinyl is kinda soft, will we have any issues getting the new screws to fit in the original holes just as tight as they were the first time they were put in? Or any tricks I need to know about?
That sleeve is just what I need. I have a double gate now and I think they went too wide and now they're sagging. This area is also a wind tunnel. I am getting an estimate to see if this can be installed for me. Wish you guys were in NY. I will probably purchase the sleeve myself. I would assume my current gates just need to be shortened and have a post installed in center of them. I also purchased the locks to install. Thanks!

Great video. Are the posts 6x6? Just wondering as mine are and they say that the latch only works with posts up to 5" and a 6x6 is 5 1/2 so probably won't work.
Does it matter that the diagonal brace is going out from the top hinge and not down and into the bottom hinge? I know for a wood gate it matters. But I guess it doesn't matter as much for vinyl?
Sharp eye! It actually still matters for vinyl as well. You want the brace to run down into the bottom hinge. What you can't easily see on these gates is that the brace runs the opposite way on the other side. We build them like that so we have flexibility when installing them. One side always has the brace running the correct way. 👍🏻
I love the aluminum sleeve idea. Especially what I'm doing at my daughter's the only reason for wide gate is a municipal easement runs through so I want to do offset sized gates so 1/2 is normal walk gate then both will open to 10' overall. What os dimensions of the aluminum sleeve so I can pick one up? Thanks

No, you don't need pipe reinforcement for your removable sleeve. Do make sure you're using quality vinyl though. How to build a removable post: ruclips.net/video/bPG8rUjZeYs/видео.html
I like the look of the latches and the fact they lock, but what's stopping someone from just unscrewing the latch from the outside and opening the gate?
@@SWiFence he's referring to the strike piece. All that's holding it is 2 screws fully accessible from the outside. Proper design for at least some semblance of security would have the strike located on the secured side.
Great video. Thanks for putting this out there. My installer placed our latch higher than midway and now our vinyl gate is twisted due to wind. The latch acted as a pivot point and the bottom of the gate no longer is in-line with the top. Is there any way to fix that twist?
Hmmm, probably the best thing you can do that doesn't involve surgery is to move the latch down to midway and see if the twist goes away. You may also be able to do some gentle untwisting by hand.
Great question but I'm not sure. I'd recommend contacting some fencing contractors or suppliers in your area and asking. If it helps you can show them this link but tell them you need it in a 4"x4". www.swifence.com/5x5-vinyl-post-sleeve.html

Is it supposed to be hollow in the fence posts when you screw into them? Or is there supposed to be a wood post on the inside of them and they put the vinyl post over the wood when they cement them in? I keep getting bolts that come out of my fence on the hinges of my gate I think my fence guy either went in to too hard and stripped out the bolts when they installed the gates or it's wrong all together I would think that there should be some sort of material to back up inside for the weight of the gates.
We only use something to stiffen the post when we're hanging a gate off of it. We never use them for the rest of the fence and have never had any problems.
Hinge pulled out of gate due to wind , screws holes stripped out, how can I fix that? Post isn’t hollow or I would of inserted a 2x4 or 4x4 . Any ideas
Sounds like perhaps the vinyl came from a big box store? (not recommended btw) It also sounds like a thin-walled vinyl which is why the post isn't hollow--they're trying to brace it internally to make up for how thin it is. No great solutions for you I'm afraid short of pulling it out and using .15 vinyl with a post-stiffener sleeve inserted (we insert them for all gate posts). You can always re-drill and re-hinge in a different spot and hope for the best. Not what you want to hear I know... ☹
