BACK DOOR - ‘My Eyes Have Seen You’
I was a senior in high school when I was in my first ‘real band.’ By ‘real band’, I mean, the first band to go out and play gigs in front of people. My last year of high school was all about playing with these guys and nothing to do with school. I graduated anyway, but I don’t know how. LOL!
We played mostly Doors tunes because Mike, our singer, sounded just like Jim Morrison. We also had no bass player. Dave, our keyboard player, played bass on a Rhodes electric piano. We we’re a Doors tribute band, but never claimed to be. It just appeared that way. HA!
These guys were my high school mates and we had the time of our lives that year. We played as many back yard parties as we could, and we played A LOT! We even had the police shut us down a few times. I remember one party we had so many people that they were sitting on fences and on top of each other to see the stage.
By the summer after graduation, I quit and went on to form The Things. Ten years later, in 1991, we got back together for a few weeks and played a few reunion gigs. This was recorded at Sonny’s Nightclub in Pico Rivera. It’s a primitive home recording on one of those huge video camcorders. It’s raw and gritty, but you get the gist. This one’s for my old band mates in Back Door.
