Besides the Music itself, I love how these Ladies are seductive, but still far from being Vulgar. My personal opinion is that the White colors are the more innocent part...dont you remember etc. The Black is more the suggestive dark ideas, and the Red is the act itself. Song is inspired by the original Little Mermaid tale by Hans Christian Anderson. Simone, Charlotte and Amalie Bruun of Myrkur are the Little Mermaids' sisters trying to remind her of her home and encouraging her to take a dagger and kill the Prince. You are the first reactor I have seen that caught the Little Mermaid references. In the story her sister's appear and give her a dagger to kill the Prince the night before he is supposed to marry another. This will allow her to regain her mermaid tail and return to the sea and live out her life as a mermaid with them. In the story she is unable to kill the Prince and throws herself into the sea where instead of turning to foam as Ursala's spell commands, she turns into a luminous and ethereal spirit. Other spirits welcome her and tell her if she completes good works on earth over 300 years then she can earn an eternal soul in heaven. The video IMO puts a twist on the original because we do see blood on the dagger indicating that the Little Mermaid does kill the Prince and returns to the sea to be with her sisters. But the lyrics from the final chorus have this line "We are the children of the sky. Come earn a soul that never dies" which sounds like the story and so the dagger is not used. As all great artists do they leave the interpretation up to us.
The ladies from left to right are Myrkur (Danish Black Metal/Folk artist) with blond wig, Simone Simmons with the burgundy wig, and Charlotte Wessels with the brunette wig (ex Delain, now solo). Not their real hair. Don't think their is any significance just a nice visual. I think that no additional meaning was hidden in the hair color, they just decided to make it different, but the colors of the dresses are definitely not random.
I think they are the same sort of creature. Sirens are usually portrayed as monstrous though, who lure sailors to their deaths so they can eat them, and mermaids are often portrayed as nicer.
When you listen to quality of singers, lyrics and composition in metal vs what is on the radio (and extremely popular), a person can easily lose faith in humanity.
I found it so funny recently when people were up in arms about the Snowwhite where the actress didn't likes the Disney original really and meant it should maybe be modernized. And all were talking about "the beloved original" .. and i as a german just thought : you dumb idiots have now clue about the original because Disney already butchered these story so much to make them more "family friendly" because the originals were mostly really dark and brutal. Not really sure about the mermaid story howver, but as kids in germany we got to know the real Brothers Grimm book versions of Snowwhite and all that stuff.
