I lived outside of Heidelberg 45 years ago, but I still remember the spargel fields outside of the town we lived in. It's grown covered in dirt to make it white, and tender. I know my parents loved it, but I have no memory of eating it. I don't think that I've ever eaten asparagus.

Yes, the asparagus needs to be continuously covered by soil to remain white. It has a very delicate, delicious flavor 😊 ~ Anja

Love seeing your veg garden! Still waiting for spring here. We have had so much rain but I am being positive so turning half the garden over to a rice field and breeding trout in the other half! Rhubarb and strawberry jam is great and I make it every year. X

Yes, we are very fortunate that we can grow so much here in California 😌. Keeping fingers crossed that spring will come your way soon 💛 ~ Anja

Love rhubarb. My mother always made rhubarb sauce (compote) and a rhubarb pie made in a custard filling. Schoen! One of my favorite outings in Germany was for spargel fests (or strawberries, wine, or beer 😁).

I peel green asparagus all the time. Julia Child mentions it in her Mastering the Art of French Cooking as a way to not waste so much on the end.

I love recipes that make use of the entire produce whenever possible! Would love to see a video on the asparagus soup using the boiling liquid and peels!

My friend used to make a salad with potatoes, cucumbers and onions can’t remember what else. Do you have a similar recipe? I love your recipes.

It sounds like some sort of potato salad. Have you checked out mine: ruclips.net/video/oPc3Rg2w4i8/видео.html? All you'd need to do is add the cucumbers and onions 😊 ~ Anja

It had a vinegar oil type of dressing. Sorry I should have included that information. He was from Bavaria.

I find that steaming the eggs instead of boiling them and then setting them in ice water for a few minutes makes them easier to peel. I don't know why that is but it seems to work well.

I'll have to give that a try! Thanks for the tip 👍 ~ Anja

I also steam my eggs. Much easier to peel.

That pizza looks fantastic! I happened to visit the Netherlands during white asparagus season and it was on every menu, what a treat. I would love to see more sorrel recipes by the way; its one of those great Spring greens I don't have a lot of experience with.

I'm new to this channel. I saw one of your videos from 3 years where your cat kept on jumping on your counter. There's a popular tech RUclipsr who always puts his cat into his tech videos and he has millions of subscribers. I can't really say if it has helped one way or the other to grow his channel but it can't hurt to try it on your channel.

Haha, yes, thanks, I know some other big RUclipsrs as well that have their cats in every video

I do the same thing with my rhubarb, but add fresh cranberries from my freezer into it.

When removing asparagus from the water, the ends should never hang down. If they do it’s overcooked. At least that’s what we think here in Germany. 😉

    • @OurGabledHome
      @OurGabledHome  4 месяца назад

Yes, it was slightly overcooked! Thanks for sharing und liebe Grüße zurück nach Deutschland 😊 ~ Anja

Hallo, hier in Deutschland schälen wir den Rhabarber bevor wir ihn kochen. Vorsicht Oxalsäure.
