    This has been so nice to watch. I do enjoy my mom’s Griswold iron skillet. When I use my mom’s hand-me-downs I remember all the important tools she has taught all 8 of her children -- important skills of making the best out of something old.

    I have always used olive oil to season mine. They always smoke. Went yesterday to the store and bought avocado oil. Thank you, Anja, for all your videos. You have a wealth of knowledge ❤

    Thank you for the lovely video. I’ve been using cast iron pans my grandma from Minnesota left me for 40 years. Griswold, Sydney and BSR. I just splurged on a Finex and it’s so, so beautiful I keep it on stove. I love cast iron I wouldn’t ever use anything else!!

    Hallo from good old Germany! I like to watch your channel a lot. I think we are both about the same age and I am living on a small island in the North Sea near Denmark, called Amrum 🌊 I recently began to eliminate gluten out of my diet and I’m hoping that I can use Einkorn flour for baking cakes and cookies in the future . We’ll see! Have a nice day and thank you for the effort you put into your videos🌞

    I just last week bought a couple of Wagner skillets at an antique shop in an attempt to move away from the coated Teflon like pans so this timing is perfect. It’s really hard to leave the tefleonesque pans behind I’m soooo used to them. But once again the coating is coming off … that just can’t be healthy

      Good for you! Teflon and PFAs come with a bunch of health risks. Happy cooking ~ Anja

    Hi, thank you for the explanation. I bought a enameled cast iron skillet and I really love it. However as an Iranian I really love to cook rice in it with a crispy bottom (that we call Tahdig) but even with different methods I've never got that. Do you have any tips for that? I would really appreciate that❤

    • @OurGabledHome
      @OurGabledHome  6 месяцев назад +1

      You can try cast iron without enamel, heat it well, add your preferred oil and the rice. Let it fry for a good bit to get a crispy bottom ~ Anja

    Thanks for the video! How often do you reseason your cast iron skillets when you put it in the oven? I’ve only done it once when I got them and I don’t think they need an oven reason after 6 years of constant use and care. Am I missing out?

    • @OurGabledHome
      @OurGabledHome  6 месяцев назад +1

      With regular use and a thin coat of oil right after, I have never had to reseason any of my cast iron cookware 😊~ Anja

    How did you make the English muffins so white? Now I am milling my own flour I find everything comes out much browner like wholewheat. I use a red hard wheat and soft white wheat.

    • @OurGabledHome
      @OurGabledHome  6 месяцев назад

      I think I used AP flour. Your English muffins will be more brown - but healthier! - if you use whole-grain, home-milled flour ~ Anja
