I've owned 6 of these, 2 Langdon, and if you wanna get the slide reinstalled, keep the slide upside down and put the grip on upside down rather than flip it upright.
my FFL handed me a full size PX4 one day when I was just visiting. Went back a few days later and picked it up because I wanted to try out the rotating barrel. A conversion to G, a Talon grip and a Langdon trigger job in a bag later and it is hands down my favorite shooter. It is in the rotation and gets carried any time I am up to a full size. I ended up with the small backstrap because it feels very 1911-ish with it.
This is a great overlooked pistol. The .45 shoots very smoothly I've been having mine for 9 years now. Just to let you know, on the locking block Beretta recommends using grease not oil. I did have to send my PX4 back to Beretta one year and the gunsmith called me from Beretta and I did ask him that question and he told me to use grease on the locking block and in the groove slot on the barrel where that diamond section slides into from the locking block. He also shipped it back to me after getting fixed with grease in those location.
I wish I could have kept.that, but RUclips stand getting weird about free-use sampling and with how they already bend rules.to bring down firearm channels I didn't want to take any chances. Ironically they recently restricted advertising on a video BECAUSE of my.ejd credits music. They claim that promotes the sales of regulated goods. 🤣
I bought one way back when in 40. I used to have 5 guns in 40. Now I only have two. This one and a USP 40 I bought in 1995. The PX4 is an awesome gun in 40. Might need to get one in 9 or 45 soon.
Great overview. I had a chance to test one. Love the recoil impulse of the rotating barrel and the very audible reset. But I think the potential is better realized with the Langdon Tactical version.
These are outstanding. Especially if you don't mind an ugly pistol. I've had the compact model for years, and I've never had a single malfunction. My only complaint is that the factory finish didn't hold up at all. Thanks, GB!!
@@jessesando8582 Yeah thanks, and wow they look pretty cheap too. Under $400 or so. I knew they made them after Beretta but didn't realize long enough to add rails.
My full size is an early model with over 30,000 rounds through it and my compact is relatively new. A few comments born from my experiences with them. *Feeding issues are virtually non-existant because the top round in the mag is aligned only slightly below the feed ramp; *Talon Grips are included because Beretta knows that today's shooters demand aggressive texture for better performance; *The rotating barrel does absorb much of the felt recoil, making these guns easy shooters; *As proven by Earnest Langdon's 50,000 rounds in a year torture test (watch his video), the quality and reliability of these guns is excellent; *these pistols have great ergonomics, point very easily, their accuracy is better than or at least on par with any factory defensive pistol I have owned; *their finishes have held up very well; * Although rarely needed (I had to replace one guide rod), parts availability and customer service have been very good; *Langdon parts, from his famous trigger bar to his "Trigger Job In A bag" are available from LTT at what I consider to be reasonable prices. For those who are not trusting souls, I do not work for Beretta, I am not a paid spokesperson, and I sure don't get free guns from anyone. I am, however, a fan of the PX4 full and compact. As a final note, the SC version is a "Px4" by name only. Functionally, it is a completely different operating system and internal design compared to the other two.
Good point about the mag release. Being on both sides, my P95 would drop the magazine if it was carried in appendics style when you drew the weapon. Solve that issue with a dremel tool.
I have one, 9mm goodness, Want to ask a favor, can you do a 1yr review of the Grand Power new barrel rotation system, it is the only thing holding me back from buying the mk23 series.
It's the firing pin block. It's a little different than the one on the 92 series but functions in the same manner. As you pull the trigger the spring-loaded firing pin block is moved up, allowing the firing pin to move forward, when the hammer strikes it.
I've seen videos of guys pulling the pin for the back strap and they easily slide off. Mine is on there pretty tight so I just tap a little on the corner of the strap with a plastic hammer
@GBGuns - Just an FYI your copy has the same exact inconsistent trigger reset issue that's been reported by @TheArkansasGunGuy. @6:00 keep an eye on the firing pin block at the top of the slide when you reset the trigger the first time (it pops back down). When you reset the trigger again afterwards the firing pin block stays UP, giving you a shorter reset. Here's an explanation: ruclips.net/video/b6ndT3P9QsY/видео.html
Also curious to see if your copy has this second problem as well: ruclips.net/video/W9_xNNNLxF0/видео.html ... ruclips.net/video/BR9alKQ5RzE/видео.html
I would say to review it factory, if these models normally come without the grips. Depending on you feel when shooting it, you can then recommend the grips if it’s an easy during your shooting run. Just my two cents! Happy 2025!
Except that if they produced it to sell at that price point they'd have to either eat whatever profit keeps their doors open or they'd have to cut extreme corners on quality. The PX4 was and is intended as a duty pistol. Cut corners on quality with any duty pistol and suddenly you receive no military or LE contracts for any of your products.
@JD-tn5lz I don't know what their price point is. But there are many. MANY companies that have produced new products at a short term loss in order to get products out there and start making profit by volume. Even Beretta has a few guns that basically NO ONE wants so they have them at stupid low prices and rebates so they can get them into the market. You know what other duty guns have better price points? Virtually ALL of them. That is one of Glocks biggest selling points, they sell them the police for cheap, 320s also.
This gun is as good as a Sig 226, it's competitively priced with other guns of its class. This particular model is an enhanced version of the original model so there's a small extra cost on it.
These routinely sell for $499 BNIB when on sale and $549-599 when not. They are more comfortable than a Glock and just as if not more so reliable. You could even find them in the D model if you want something with the same trigger pull everytime like a striker fired pistol.
I am referring to the standard PX4 not this particular one which other than the grey slide and G conversion done at the factory is exactly the same as the PX4 has been for over 20 years.
The PX4 debuted in late 2003/early 2004. Changing of back straps can be difficult the first few times but once done gets easier. Also replacing the mainspring with a D spring will significantly reduce DA trigger pull weight without sacrificing reliability. These are fantastic, naturally pointing pistols and uber reliable. It is a shame they never caught on more.
Also these are actually the polymer version of the beretta cougar which also had a rotating barrel and was produced in the early to mid 90’s. So one could say the PX4’s lineage began over 30 years ago.
The PX4 has proven to be a very good pistol But it's different and the average person doesn't like different (rotating barrel system) because they would have to learn something new.) The other problem is that in many people's opinion it's very unattractive. If you squint your eyes just a little it could be a Hipoint pistol. It's just plain ugly
I personally don't think it looks awful, there are definitely uglier guns out there. It's just kinda bland looking overall. It desperately needs a good stiple job at least.
Absolutely right. I gave my slide a makeover and had the frame professional stippled, and did the trigger job myself. For a $400 gun, it outshoots anything else I have as stock, but with the trigger it's just something else entirely. An amazingly undersold firearm.

PX4s are understated pistols. Soft shooting and accurate out the box.
