My friend and I were talking about this not too long ago. People don't want to tear down the oppression ladder because (1) as long as they have some benefits over someone else it means something to them and (2) they believe they will move up in the ladder someday. People are ok with oppression as long as they benefit or they believe there's a chance they would benefit. We have to believe our lives are worth more than oppression.

As a mixed race woman of Puerto Rican and African descent, I hate to say this but some of the black women I have come across have been in the overseer position, which in turn have been as worse as having a white woman as my manager. I have never been nothing but kind and in return, have received hate filled contempt in return. We have to do better. This is way other races can come together and grow. Some of us want to show or “plantation master” . We must do better and see the strength in numbers. Imagine coming together….that is real power!!!

This is soooo true! This is what I love about your channel. This is the conversations they don't want us to have. I read an article once about a teacher who conducted an experiment with her thirty students. She divide them up into two groups, one group she had read the Harry Potter book, and the other group she had watch the Harry Potter movie. Afterwards, she had them draw Harry Potter's lunch hall in detail. The group who watched the movie, drew exactly what they saw in the movie. The group who read the book let their imagination run wild. So this article made me realize that they kill our imagination intentionally to keep us buying instead of creating. This is like the movie "The Neverending Story" when the empress told Sebastian that without his imagination, Fantasia would cease to exist. The same is true for America. We seem to forget that this great country would cease to exist without our imagination and innovation. We are the engine that keeps the train running, not these corporations. Many of us have fallen for the bait and switch.
Thank you for making this video, people often forget that our ancestors traded with food and shared their resources. As I’m learning about indigenous cultures I’ve learned that community was a powerful thing, they believed in community and the power of sharing. We need to go back to that, respect the land and learn the power of community and powerful imagination again ❤

Growing up in a tough household and neighborhood in the Bronx I always felt weak because I was the sensitive one. Fighting was not my thing very chill and i would easily cry. Thank you for this learning to embrace who I am I get afraid that I will never be able to embrace that side of me.

To be honest, im surprised that people dont see things from her perspective, i thought the majority of the population are suffering from these issues she raises.
I think many give up and feel they have no power in how things are. I spoke to someone recently that stated they don't like this world and are waiting for heaven. I believe in a fairy tale world too~ why not have this be heaven also.
The very attacks you speak of from ‘the community’ is why it’s hard to be ‘communal’ in this general space with others. They don’t want to come together and be communal when it comes to supporting each other - our living communities, our businesses, our advancement - yet they come for your neck when you don’t embrace what they view as an inherent part to the identity of the community. We can’t say loud enough that We are Not a Monolith and that’s okay. Also, people embrace many phrases created to redirect attention. I’m tired of people giving more emotion to words than they do actions. We are the only cultural community that doesn’t embrace the concept of sharing on a grand scale. All others live together, grow together, lift each other, and regularly focus on building within their own community. My father is Jamaican and my husband is African and the way collectivism is ingrained in both cultures is refreshing, in many ways, when it comes to caring for & informing your neighbor. Both share the fruit, veggies, & grain grown on their land, they come to each others’ aid, and every occurrence is a cause to gather & see about each other.

I think people are in survivor mode and experience so much trauma the skills that it takes to come together and share require rest and a lot of self-reflection. Capitalism actively works against people being well, from the quality of food to keeping us inside a building every day where we don't get enough fresh air. People in your comments fighting against being kind are unwell cause it was designed that way, so I hope you don't take things to heart. Block or do whatever you need to protect your energy as well. Your work matters to those like me who need to hear it.
