Thank you for this tutorial. I have been making the comfort mats for a local pet store and they love them. I've also been making blankets, but I love the simplicity of this pattern.
Love your rescue project. I like the combo foundation chain with dc. I usually chain and work in back bumps to give nice edge. I also skip the ch 1 to turn; instead sc in first stitch and sc again in left leg of same sc. The stacked scs give a straight & sturdy edge.
Ahhhh....a beginning DC chain I can actually follow and figure out...thank you for that. I have struggled trying to use this method to begin projects. The turning tip is pretty nice, too. I have not made a DC only blanket for my local rescue, but I might try this one. (I usually use the waffle stitch...only because it makes a nice squishy blanket/mat, but it is a yarn eater.) This pattern might be better for using up scraps of yarn. Thanks so much for the tips...going to try them with my next project.
A lot of pet rescue places and shelters sometimes request a double thickness because of the stainless steel flooring of cages. A great way to reduceyour yarn scraps and give a little comfort to an abandoned or abused animal. Don’t forget the larger breeds need comfort as well
That’s a great tip about the double thickness! Using two strands of yarn would be great, and checking with pet shelters to see what sizes they need is good to do as well...Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much h for this tutorial of the cat blanket for rescues.👏🏻👏🏻❤️😺. I loved it cause it looks so easy for beginners who’ve not extended their crocheting abilities but still at the beginning stage. This is definitely something I can do and I’m subscribed to a couple of live Cat Rescues on RUclips and have been thinking of how I can make cat blankets and this definitely looks like something I can do. God bless you and I’ll probably come back to this video from time to time to see how you did it to refresh my mind. God bless. Sue M. Clearwater, Florida❤️🙏😺🥰👍🏻🌴😎❌⭕️
@@createandcrochetwithpatricia So wonderful to hear from you Patricia. I also thank you too for letting me know about the beginners crochet videos and I’ll definitely look for them too. Thanks agwin and God bless you. Sue M. Clearwater, Florida ❤️🙏🥰👍🏻🥳❌⭕️
Just an fyi, I also crocheted sweaters and blankets for my dog. My vet said it's a really bad idea to have yarn around dogs because if they should ingest it by chewing on it, it would cause major damage to their intestinal tract..... 😯😯😯
So this topic is quite subjective. Many vets request crocheted or knitted items to provide comfort to pets while in care. It seems, for the most part, this is not a problem. But a nervous or anxious animal may chew on things, no matter what the items are. Check with your local vet or shelter to see what they want. Wool would certainly be the best choice, however if you check out the video in the blog post which is an interview with a woman in her 90's who has been making these blankets for years, she uses acrylic yarn. The pet store and vets that she donates to, don't say anything about using wool only. Thank you for the pattern and tips. ❤🐶🐱
You are most welcome! I hope you make many.

I’m so glad to hear that the comfort mats are going to a good place!

I'm glad you like it! I also like crocheting into the back bump of the foundation chain and use it often. 👍😀

You can also use two strands of yarn to make it a bit heavier, it is a great stash buster for sure! Thank you for your kind comments :)
I use all my scraps yarns to make these for fur babies n all basic stitches n cheap yarn from Dollar tree store❤
Wonderful! 👍🙏💖

I love this idea. But….wouldn’t their nails get caught?
I talk about that in the blog post: patriciafentie.com/2024/10/20/crocheted-comfort-blanket-for-pet-rescue-centers/

I thought animals needed wool
