- This mini-documentary tells the incredible story of the Victory Vertical Pianos. During the Second World War, the US Government contracted Steinway and Sons to build pianos durable enough to withstand the harsh environments of the front line. Air dropped into war zones across the globe; the piano's mission was to bring comfort and a piece of home to the soldiers. The pianos boosted morale, brought people together and allowed them to express themselves while showing others the magic of music.
Here at The Crow Hill Company, we work hard to share and make music accessible to everyone of all backgrounds, regardless of ability or 'qualification'.

I bought this when it came out...for my own composing activities...but more importantly...because I am absolutely certain my Dad heard one when he was a young officer stationed England (8th and 9th USAAF) and then...a participant at Normandy and lastly...Germany...and also...my H.S. jazz band and chorus teacher...who was a medic...and badly wounded in fierce combat - lone survivor of his squad.....(10th Armoured Division)...When I hit a note...I can remember those men and others of their generation........thanks for this video....I am sending this link to the widow of my teacher...she's 91 this month....I know it will mean a lot to her.....
Wow! What an incredible story, we’re so happy that we managed to make something that not only honours people like him, but keeps those stories and emotions alive
I was randomly recommended this video and thought I'd give it a watch. I'm so glad I did! This was such a unique and well made video! Definitely earned a new subscriber!
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to leave such a lovely comment! 🙏
Great story which should be commissioned for a TV documentary film about the story of the piano during the war. If you can locate the piano nicked by the SAS from another camp when they formed in Africa in 1942 to start planning raids behind enemy lines I would be happy. It was a feature in the BBC series by Steven Knight which came from the back story of how Sterling as his band of misfits became the founding members of the most prestige elite forces to this day.
WOAH! What a story and thanks for the clue!!

I confess to being completely unfamiliar with the Victory Piano and what a story it is. It is a well told in this documentary. Have to wonder if there are any more around. Now that we know what they look like, will certainly be keeping any eye out for them.

@@TheCrowHillCo Good Move.
I commented on her channel as well about the idea. Funny enough I did so halfway into the video, and then at the End of it she says "How do O say this....its like.....Its like...Cello Vibes"
So, I commented again and said essentially its meant to be. Lol
There is something uniquely special about her. Its like her Spirit has truly merged with her instrument.
If she was 20 miles from home and then thing feel over or her cat scratched it, Im telling you...she would know.
You guys make this work.
Thats not only a Win for you, but everyone else and Me.
Hill Yeah
I Mean, come on Now! She is like a Ninja and an Angel.

The photo at 7:04 shows German troops playing the piano?? Did they have their own version of parachuted pianos, or is this a captured Allied piano I wonder??
Germany made pianos. 🤦🏻♂
Indeed, Germany has their own pianos such as; Bechstein.
That is a good question! I would chalk it down to captured pianos
👏👏👏
