I’m one of your younger viewers (14), I’ve always loved steam engines for some reason and I recently bought, restored and sold on a little mamod SR1a Roller and had great fun with it, your videos are always informative and useful and I enjoy watching them very much 👍

The fact you want to make children get into the steam hobby is amazing, at the age of 14 i bought by first ever mamod TE1A from the 70s that hasnt ran since 72. And Have now began to persue the hobby with more advanced and complex engines. I saw your Mamod restoration video and got hooked instantly.
    Thanks,
    George.

I have noticed that since YT has removed the dislike button, several creators have pinned a comment here for the purpose of: "Give this comment a thumbs up if you dislike this video"! To maintain integrity.
It would not be used much on this channel IMO.
Enjoyed every minute of this one. Thanks Keith.

Really enjoyed this one. I watch your videos every day and thoroughly enjoy what you do, how you do it and your sense of humour. I am not an engineer, and don't have the tools required to do what you do, but love watching what you do and listening to your voice overs. Thank you and keep up the good work. (don't let the nay Sayers get you down, most people who actually do things, and make things don't feel the need to criticise, because they understand what's involved)

  • @willemkossen
    @willemkossen 2 года назад +1

I'm probably younger, but most certainly not young anymore. your video's resonate with me, you do and did many of the things I'ld like to do or do. I played in a band, but our singer didn't sound like Joe Cocker either. I do play Hammond organ although I could never get my hands on a B3. I do have an interest in technology including steam engines, but apart from my little Wilesco toy, I don't have any. I do have a workshop, but it's for working wood, metal, not so much. can't have it both ways in limited space. I do have the hair and the beard, which is more than on this old RUclips profile icon these days. I've learned a lot of things from your video's, even though these things don't always have useful implications in todays life for me, still, learning is always a good way to stay young and mentally healthy. so all I'm really trying to say is Thanks. and stay healthy and keep going!. Cheers and greetings from the Netherlands.

There was a guy who suggested that the key to ‘successful learning’ was ‘Enjoyment, Practice and Understanding’ … as demonstrated by your many talents👍 His name was John Holt and his most influential book was ‘How Children Fail’. It was my bible.
So how do children fail? By Answer Producing rather than Answer Finding.
He was touched by a child at the back of a class who was humming Multiplication Tables. Asked what the child thought he/she was doing the answer came ‘I like the tune but I don’t know the words’
Enough to bring tears to my eye. My goodness there were terrible teachers out there in my day too.
You can Do as well as Teach. Few can do both. You promote Enjoyment, Practice and Understanding.

Thank you very much for sharing. I was lucky enough to go to school in Portsmouth and be taught metalwork by Kenneth Wells. At that time the school had fully equipped workshops, foundry, forge, lathes and milling machine. We learnt the basics and were able to cast parts machine, solder and fit them up into a simple static steam engine. I didn't know until fairly recently that Mr Wells had published three books on metalworking aimed at the starter group school age. The books are now scarce but with the permission of the Wells family, a kind loan of an original book, some persistence from myself the three books have now been republished by Camden. Watching your videos certainly inspired me to search out my old engine and steam it again for.the.first time in 40 odd years!! Thanks once again, from Spain!!

A great watch as always - the information put up on RUclips is timeless. As a person in their mid30’s interested in lathework, live steam, and synths (albeit I’m on a eurorack streak right now, send help), this channel has been a delight. To be fair though I think due to workshop constraints, if I do build a 5” gauge loco, it’ll be electric… (I think finding space for a southbend would be difficult sadly, and lathes lead to shapers)

Hi Keith, I came across your vidoes when looking at hammond organ information. Your Hammond vids are great and whilst i'm not a steam enthusiast as such, my brother and myself often visit the medel enfineer exhibition at Ally Pally. This video is a great one and carries a diamond paice of information 'Dont think about it too much, just get on with it' my version of that cheesy sports shoe ad 'Just do it'. It's a great thing to encourage new people into any 'real hobby' I say real as computer games are no hobby. I am still a radio han , tho working in the trade has taken the edge off it a bit. IMHO, men need hobbies, it keeps them out of trouble, an old girlfriend said 'some mens hobbies is other women'. A hobby can be a true passion, something that gets you out of bed and working at till late in the night. Once again, thanks for all your interesting videos and high production standards.

Interestingly the very first video of yours that I watched was the silver soldering excerpt. I have never built a model steam engine but plan to later in my life. I am currently 33 and have too many other projects and am too busy trying to make a living and run the family business. (independent oil producer) I am a competent manual machinist, mechanic, welder and interestingly have had some experience in live recordings. (no studio). I have always been more interested in the model stationary engines instead of the model locomotives but none the less I will probably be one of the old men walking around a engine show with a bucket of coal and an oil can. Thanks for the video I always find these types of videos interesting especially from the channels that don't give a lot of the guy behind the mic info.

Hi. I'm 26 and I'd like to build model steam engines, and your videos definitely contributed to that. Maybe I can set up a machine shop after I buy my house. My 3D CAD projects and pretend music studio will need to suffice until then.

Through your videos and series I learned a lot about model steam engines. Although I have been dealing with steam models and the large steam engines for over 20 years, I was particularly able to learn about Stuart models. I wish you continued success and fun with your work. Stay healthy and have a merry Christmas.
