@@user-qc8do1zl7f it’s just not. it might sound nice but it’s so shallow in meaning compared to recent albums like bb ocean blvd and nfr. She’s a poet and you clearly don’t understand the messages and intentions behind her work. Just because songs or an album sound good doesn’t make it her best. It’s catchy, car music (probably can’t listen to fingertips or kintsugi in the car it’s so sad) but that doesn’t make it better than her other stuff. She was depressed and wrote about messed up things at that time so it’s not her best when it’s based off bad things that happened to her. Some of her best songs are on btd but her new stuff is so evolved you’ll realise soon hopefully how developed it is compared to her earlier work
If you’re taking these songs at surface level and not really interpreting the lyrics, you’re missing a ton of nuance. I believe you are under the impression that all of these songs are about the same man. Love Song is about a one night stand and trying desperately connect with another human, even knowing you’re doomed to fail. Cinnamon Girl is written about dating a partner with substance abuse issues, California was written about a friend Lana heard was struggling…you’re assuming things based on your preconceived notions. Try it again with fresh ears. It might grow on you.
It's good that unlike others you didn't hide your real feelings . I think you Just lost your concentration and went into a different mood after Doin time. NFR was the biggest grower album for me. Also I think You don't like ballads in general and you like songs where there are more instruments, so you should listen "lust for life" with The ASAP Rocky and The WEEKND
call me MJ cause I’m a smooth criminal bdummtssss jkjk I just harizz children as well 🤫 for legal reasons this was a joke For more legal reasons I’ll do list for life
I'm skipping through the video and there is not one second where he is not talking over the music... does he ever actually just listen and try to appreciate the songs or is he always talking negatively and waiting for them to be over?
I used to always stop after 1min of playtime making a video twice as long as the initial album analyzing the lyrics etc. Yt copyright system and Lana’s label still forced me to edit the music down. Making it 70% commentary 30% music. I wanted to keep the 50/50 split so that’s what I did. If you watch the other Lana videos or any other full length album where I was allowed to keep the music in (making the vid way over 1hr) you’ll see it
I'm only two songs in. I've read the comments. This is going to be a fun reaction!🤣 Why should I care if you Lana's not your cup of tea? It's a more reflection on you own tastes and sensibilities rather than the quality of her art. I'm a relative newbie but am all-in. Of course, not every song she's put out is fantastic . She is, however, a brilliant artist and poet. NFR is probably her magnum opus. Her lyrics are much deeper than you may realize on first listen. There's a LOT going on in her songs (She references other songs, as well as literature, poetry, film. It's fun spotting the allusions); as surreal as they are at times, they're often autobiographical. Fun fact: Taylor worships Lana (It's not the other way round).
That's so true, it blew my mind when in "The Next Best American Record" she referred to "Her*in" with the line "Topanga's hot tonight". I'm so sad that at my first listen of NFR, I couldn't fully get how deep this album truly was, now I really like this album as I should've way before
Cinnamon Girl is one of her best songs hands down. Basically any professional review highlights it 😂 this is probably one of the most whack reviews I’ve ever seen
I appreciate you tell the truth rather than saying false opinions. But I don’t agree with the fact that you can say that we don’t need some songs. This album is a Grammy nominated album So it’s most people’s favorite. This is not a pop album. You can’t expect entertaining songs every time.
I’ll probably make a 2nd video digging into the story and themes behind it. It’s just that I think music is supposed to combine literature and sound in a way where I don’t solely need to focus on the story because the instrumental/singing stays monotone. If I’d like that I’ll just go read a book. For one or two songs in a row it’s not a problem but over 4 is not the way to go here. Concerning the Grammys I don’t really care. They gave maklemore one 😭
I really enjoy your reactions in general, but I'll say this in a respectful way: sometimes you need to shut up and >feel< the music in order to process it with your soul instead of only your brain and mouth hahahaha. I see you have a lot to say, but maybe talking that much while the music is playing can take you out of the vibe of it. But hey, I didn't loooooved NFR the first time I've heard it, that's the magic with Lana's music: takes time to digest... and that's fine. Great video :D
Norman Rockwell is an American painter who depicted a milquetoast version of The American Dream in the 1950s (i.e. the antithesis of Los Angeles burning in the background on the NFR album cover)
You actually still don't know how to listen to Lana's songs.. And feel the song, because she's not a commercial classical singer.. You don't even listen to the song, you just comment on it.. Lana said it nicely in one of the songs: you judge a book by its cover..
@@tamerail I understand, but that's not what I meant. When I look at people's reactions to Lana, they mostly focus on the melody and lyrics, trying to understand what she is saying, what she is talking about, to actually feel the song. And they connect the album as a whole, which is the point of performers like Lana. You go over the important parts, talk, talk, and then, this song is blah blah. I don't want to disrespect your reaction, but I'm saying my opinion, what's wrong when you actually listen to lana. That's why you like some songs after several listens. Maybe do the reaction "after the first speed reaction". And thanks for the reply 😁✌️
"Did you kwow there is a tunnel under ocean blvd" is amazing and she talks more about her family and the relation with the loss of her relatives, not so much about past lovers. It's def a mind change of lana.
If you only like Born To Die and are trying to find a Born To Die 2.0 you should stop because that Lana doesn't exist anymore. She has evolved, and it's ok that you don't like the way she is now but it's a bit boring to watch a reaction that doesn't even try to understand half of the songs and keep talking about Born To Die
ok, this comment section when i just click the video. can't help, not even gonna watch the 1st song reaction. NFR is really important to me, as it became my friend to through rough time since Covid hits. if someone doesn't like it, i don't like that person too sorry😂
I told somebody else the same thing before. I’ll probably do a proper read along. Content wise the album has more to offer, I’m aware. But for it to really hit she has to musically underline it more (imo). Having 5 ballads back to back that only deliver lyrically but not on the sound spectrum is not enough for an album, that’s meant to be listened to. I know songs that deliver a wider musical spectrum over 3min than she did over several songs. Obviously as a Ye fan I just enjoy the best production and being thrown from one musical genre to another within 5 seconds
