OK! I want your thoughts on future topic ideas. The next video is already planned, but if there's any topics you want me to cover, comment down below 🤝
I know it is probably touched on in other videos, but could be neat to see a deep dive into neighborhood orgs throughout ATL area. They truly control a lot of things within the sphere of what we are talking about. Would be good for outreach so that people know they can be involved and have impact with what is close to them (without even being a homeowner and just renting)
I think it would also be cool to hear your thoughts on transit referendums in metro Atlanta's suburban counties like Cobb and Gwinnett, and why they often fail (like MARTA expansion proposals have)
The end had me dead lol. As someone who lives in Atlanta, I really hope MARTA gets the necessary improvements (fill-in stations, expansion, etc.) because that is the only way traffic will improve here.
I literally checked yesterday if you had posted I love Atlanta and I'm a fan of how centric to the city your channel is (also I'm not a bot, just a fan lol)
Thank you Nathan, this is so well stated! We need to support building transit as quickly as possible. Next project up is Beltline rail which starts construction in 2025 and is ready to ride 2028. Anti transit car brains are pushing self driving cars as an “instead” of rail, and we need to stay on top of communicating with our mayor and city council that we want rail!
Yup! I have a video covering the project from awhile back. I may do an update video at some point but I don't think there's much to say other than _nimbys_
Have you thought of going into city planning? You seem to have a real knack for the issues. I actually just finished my master's at UNC Chapel Hill, and what you talk about here is a lot of what my program talked about in transportation planning.
Nice!! I have plans for some Raleigh/NC videos soon as I have family moving up there. I could get my masters in planning but I'm not sure if I would actually enjoy the nitty gritty of that (at least from what I've researched). Maybe at some point! I've always liked making videos and have also always liked cities so here we are 😆
@@nathandaven Oh for sure, there's a lot of work that goes into it especially with data dissemination. Definitely recommend it though if you're ever up for it. There's always lots of work to do. You're already doing great with advocacy! 🙂
In Europe Uber is either working with taxi companies or partnering with airports. In Prague, Uber is the official airport transportation. You walk out of the door and there's a line of brand-new black Volvo station wagons with UBER AIRPORT wrapped on the sides. The drivers are employees of Uber. Sadly, Uber here in Atlanta is a joke and the airport doesn't help to make it easier for passengers.
Ayy an Atlanta transit channel! I live in Portland now, but I moved to the west coast in 2021 after living in ATL my whole life. Lived in SF for a bit. Obviously things are a little better over here, but I'm still holding out for hope for my home city to seize on the massive opportunity for improvement! Not just new transit, but improving the existing transit. I got around without a car in Atlanta for years, but it just sucked. I think the thing that made it frustrating was that I knew it didn't have to
I've been getting really into urban planning youtube and going to local zoning meetings and stuff and was wondering if there was a youtuber in the Atlanta area that was talking about it. And here you are! Great stuff. It's nice to know I'm not the only person in the metro area that really wants more trains and better buses.
There is no way to accurately assess safety here, so what is the benefit to society? Is being given more time to stare at your phone what passes for technological 'progress' in 2024? That's innovation? Dont forget to strap your phone to your face!
Self-driving cars could be used more efficiently throughout the day, rather than sitting idle in parking lots. This could lead to a reduction in the total number of vehicles needed to meet transportation demands
Rideshare and Taxis already do this. Self driving cars would still tend to cluster around high demand destinations (Airports, Hotels, etc.) anyway because it's more profitable to do so, meaning you'd still need more vehicles to provide adequate capacity and coverage compared to transit + TOD. The only advantage SDCs have over Uber/Lyft is removing the need to compensate the driver, and even then that would probably be nullified by the need to maintain the fleet (rather than having the driver maintain/register the vehicle).

I would like to see your thoughts on the recent RM transit video about Atlanta transit expansion.
@@brennaehunt7996 ...or a video about the Mayor going back on his transit promises

Is that the Tesla dealership at Briarcliff and Lavista? I live really close to there. I liked it better as a Whole Foods though 😏

Awesome work! As a SWE at one of these companies, its always nice to take a step back and think very critically of the technology we are building.
I'm sure its very cool to work on! Cars are useful in a lot of (non-urban) scenarios and you're doing great work to save lives 👊

Okay but hear me out. We replace the beltline with a two-way hyper loop for self-driving cars 🚗 🚙
Instead of light rail and the walking path, we have a mini 285 with self driving pods! Genius! - self driving car company
@@thepeppypepper imagine all the parking lots/garages we could add to the beltline!

What if we just made the self driving cars bigger and did automated BRT?

As soon as I see a future representation with a bunch of flying cars and immediately it makes me go this is bull crap.
