You want to die while *stoically battling cancer, ALS etc, and endure pain that is absolutely inconceivable, that is absolutely your right. But it is also every single individual's right to have a dignified, pain free death where they don't have to suffer the horrible attrocities that accompany these diagnosis's.

As someone who has done research on this for a research paper, I can confidently say that it isn’t just “suicide.” I am part of Hope Squad which works to prevent suicide, but I strongly believe in MAID. It isn’t about ending it all, it’s about going out with dignity and taking control of what happens to you no matter your situation. I understand that religion can change someone’s perspective on this, but there is a lot of evidence and arguments that fight against these beliefs. I encourage you to research and understand both sides.

Well in this case the hospital has the right. It is a privately funded hospital that doesn't believe in suicide. They should have the right to refuse this service and not being forced by law.

  • @GrumpyKitten375

I am extremely sorry for this young lady situation, and I pray she gets what she needs. However, you cannot shame and bully a Catholic institution, who believes in the sanctity of life from birth to natural death they would not provide abortions not medically assisted suicide. They operate under a religious charter for healthcare. They provide healthcare to the public and they receive funding, but they don’t have to provide care or a service that goes against their religious beliefs and that is protected. That is not in their mandate and they have every right to exercise that religious principal. They are not the beholden to patients to provide that service, and if they have to transfer them to get it it’s within the rights to do it. Why do news services feel the need to shame Catholic healthcare institutions for not providing a service that they know, goes against their fundamental beliefs? The parents calling it an idiotic policy, shows their lack of respect for this institution. If she was transferred to a facility that can provide it what is the issue? Why are they making such a shame and bully situation for services they have a religious mandate to not provide. Providence healthcare has the right to refuse services that goes against their religious beliefs. Patient may not like that and they will always guide them to services were they will be provided. But this is just ridiculous and shame on the news for making this a problem.

@@gsdmomb530 yes we all know the bad situation and so did Anglicans and so did other denominations do that you cannot use that to conflate it. The lady was transferred over to another facility and gave her MAID so what is the problem? The religious charter of the hospital states that they believe in the sanctity of life from birth to its natural end and ending it with MAID is goes against their charter. They took her to a facility, where that would be given to her. Your argument would have better weight if you could provide evidence that they refused to transfer her to a facility where she would receive that care. It’s called continuity of care and continuity of care mandates if you cannot provide the service you transferred to a site where it will be and that’s exactly what providence healthcare did. There was no violation of her rights as a patient and she got the service that she was requesting.

Hence, assisted and not Jack Kevorkian type stuff🤨. They said she never came out of being unconscious! So who actually gave her the concoction and does that mean it was murder? Traumatic for both the Patient looking for comfort and peace before final hours and for the Parents (loved ones) who brought her into this world/loved her dearly. When the System/Institutions make these decisions, they seem to forget that they not only traumatize the patient but they go on to traumatize the loved ones around them. Often times non-traumatized individuals become traumatized after these situations and it costs the system more. Impact is key. I feel embarrassed for our System.
