The genetic differences between this "wild type" and the more common pothos would be super cool to analyze.
Mate, that's insane! You definitely need to grow this up a moss pole set up as done by Sydney Plant Guy. Basically, he has a plant grow up a 90cm wire mesh pole with spag moss inside, once at the top he ads a 180cm stake and another 90cm pole and grows the plant to the top of that. Once it reaches 180cm, he chops it in half, and plants the top portion back into the soil and ads a 'blank' 90cm moss pole on top again to continue the growth. If the plant's rooted into the pole well before the chop, it shouldn't miss a beat and just keeps sizing up. This way you keep it growing larger and larger inside a space that only needs to be a bit over 180cm in height. He has videos explaining the method on his RUclips channel.
I really ought to start doing that
Sydneyplantguy 👊💪🤘
This is what I'm currently doing. Started with a tiny wet stick from a small pothos and in just 6 months she's grown 2ft up the pole nearly 3 and gone from 5cm leaves to nearly 15cm leaves. In spring I will give the top part a chop and start again hoping to get her up to 20-25cm leaves next summer.
Never cut more than 1/3 of the plant or it can easily die. I know others who’ve done it on video and then regretted it. The turgor drops too low for a large cutting to re root.
Nothing boring about this huge pothos !
I agree!
I did it in 2 years from a tiny plant to a plant with huge leaves with fenestrations. Not in the tropics but all indoors in the Netherlands. Just give it a pole and lots and lots of light. It even loves direct sunlight.
I had no idea that pophos looked and grew so darn similar to a monstera
Awesome work! The Pothos in Florida are considered a weed because the scale the tallest trees and can choke them out, I have seen leaves up to 45 inches long in my neighbors back yard and it blows my mind!
That’s impressive. Can’t wait to see the next update
Same!
This is absolutely incredible! It’s growth looks so fast! Great job 🎉
Thank you so much!!
love, love, love, LOVE the updates!! It truly shows how dedicated you are and I haven’t watched a channel like yours. Keep up the amazing work ❤
I’m jealous. It’s big and beautiful!! Definitely will keep watching
Thank you for sharing this video!
I picked up a twisted arm sized pothos branch that someone was prepared to put it in a bonfire in January
The plant later on split itself into 2 branches on its own
Looking forward to my 2 Hawaiian pothos monsters soon
Awesome and nice job!
Thank you for sharing beautiful and amazing plants lovely collection lovely
I live in Florida and the apartments I’m in has a humongous golden Pothos growing up a tree. It’s amazing to see. 💚🌱🌿🪴💚
yeah they are like 4x the size of what I have its so amazing!
What a stunning plant, really reminds me why pothos are called devil’s ivy! That aggressive growth is wild lmao
For sure the name is fitting!
Can't wait to see you change the pot so we can see the roots!
I LOVE IT!!!💓 After a trip to Hawaii,I have always wanted a huge Pothos.🤩
Yeah its crazy to see them in the wild
wow I can't believe it's grown so fast! I would've never guessed this is only from a year of growth- beautiful plant
Can't wait to see it start to fenestrate, awesome plants when they are mature
same im looking forward to it!
Hey! How are you? Recently got busy in this new job, missed many videos. But just realized its been more than a year i have been following your channel. And wow that Pothos has grown gorgeous. Great work. 😃
Just wanna say i love ya and everything ya do 💕
Edit: also your voice and the way you talk is just soothing.. hugs 🤗🤗🤗
Thank you for such kind words and support!!
This is the wild pothos ?
I’ve only seen the variegated or golden pothos .
But it’s certainly impressive!!
It’s leaf size is right up there with the
Elephant ears 💯
its just jade green pothos
My regular one is becoming large, the leaves are now around 6 inches, and ridiculously golden due to the amount of light they get - bright direct sunlight next to the window, as well as a grow light on top. Initially they were green with a little variegation here and there. You need to also try that, as that's when they'll get more variegated.
Omg. You are the cutest plant guy ever. 😍
I have a few golden nodes propagating that I got from Florida off a tree. I’m excited to see it grow! Nice outcome for you 💚
The size of the leaves depends upon the soze of the stem..
The question is how to accelerste the process of making the stem thicker..
This is just AMAZING! I have so many pathos varieties, and oh how I’d love to get a huge one like this!
there are etsy sellers now, no idea how legit they are tho
I've often wondered is what's called giant Hawaiian pothos really a variety or just Golden pothos grown outside in a tropical environment and allowed to grow out?
Im not an expert but, in my opinion that is all it is. They just give it a name to make it sound exotic. if you do basic research on pothos "Epipremnum aureum " you will see its native to the solomon islands which is near Australia and it was introduced to hawaii and many other places. All it is is golden pothos. you can get the same stuff from a tree in florida. Mine is just jade pothos which is why its plain green. I joke can call it Giant Floridian Pothos just to make it sound special on instagram and to mock the hawaiian pothos crowd.
Well I have personally grown both they basic households golden pathos and a couple of cuttings that I got off of Etsy that were labeled as Hawaiian pothos and I will tell you first hand growing the two there is a huge difference. And I'm talking about under the same growing environment inside. The growth characteristics are just totally different Not only the shape of the leaves but the petials, everything in general just so much larger and the aerial roots that start to form on the Hawaiian pothos compared to the regular pothos wow huge difference. Again I've grown both under the same environment.@@TechplantChannel
can't wait to see the progress next year!
OMG...that’s huge!
Was waiting for this one
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Did you bury the 'log' in the soil or did you cut it up?
Heres a video idea! get the same plant and use different types of fetilizers NPK combination. one high in nitrogen one high in phosphorus and one high in potassium
That would be neat. I can try
Just awesome
Thanks for watching!
I am so envious! what a beauty!
it's all trick photography. you are only 4' 5" tall. and the pothos is really an ordinary pothos. you tried to pull a fast one on us. 🤣
lmaooooo, I am only 5'9 tho, I have short ceilings in my basement which can make me appear taller
massive! so cool to see! Great video!
Hi techplant,
How do you let your cuttings get used to a lower humidity after you get them out of a propagation box
i can try and make a video but i just rip em out and hope for the best what dies dies and what lives lives. Ive been really brutal with anthurium seedlings this way lately. Im hoping this brutalism allows me to breed plants that can handle a lot less humidity. But if I were to do it properly. I would crack the bin open, and as days go buy open it more and more
I would love to get one of these, but as of right now I have 3 lemon trees standing at 5 feet tall that have almost out grown the house. Since I'm in zone 4 they would not survive our average winter temps of 19° nor the Date Palm (36") I started from seed. None of this justifies building a climate controlled green house. But it's always great to see other who give these plants a home. I was recently told to stop propagating what I can't keep. They're right.
Sell them😅
How did you grow your lemons. Like you I have to bring my tropical plants indoors in the winter. I tried the lemon/lime tree, however it was a fail. Help!
This is such a cool plant! I’m working on getting a golden pothos to mature I’m only a few months in and I’ve already achieved some leaves similar in size to the smaller leaves on your plant. Hopefully mine gets anywhere near the size of yours in the next year or so!
Great job as always.
Thank you!
Giant pothos supremacy!!
lol
Wow! The growth is amazing!
That's some awesome growth! When you first got it, I was definitely worried about it not being able to get big since they are tropical, but you have definitely done well with it! I would be worried about using wood though since it can rot away from all the moisture you're eventually going to want to put on the pole when it starts going more vertical. I can't wait to see what you put it on either way to see it really take off!
I am curious to see how the moss pole affects the growth of the much smaller aroids, like Philodendron Micans, whose leaves are smaller than those of a pothos.
Very cool
Please post another update video on this Pothos. We love watching this Pothos.
Is there any new leaf?
there is an update i posted about 2 weeks ago
@@TechplantChannel cooooooooollll
Let me see it
It would be crazy to watch a plant like this trail and vine instead of climb
if you let it trail it will revert back to the small pothos you see in garden centers.
Wow I didn’t even know that Giant pathos existed until I saw your video 😮!!!❤ 🪴
Me either! I love it
its just regular pothos that grew up a tree. I have another video that talks about this process. Many aroids can get MASSIVE if you grow them up something
@@TechplantChannel do you know if neon pothos will grow as big also? That would be really cool.
@@Pink7omy it will
That's it, I'm sold 😂
AWESOME!!!!!!
a new leaf is emurging that i think is even bigger!
OMG I didn’t even know this existed (not like I know all the plants out there). Now, where do I get one of these giant things? Although I am a bit scared of it. I am not sure 🤔 if I should get one. It almost reminds me of Jack and the Bean Stalk. I am not a tall person and I don’t believe indoor plants should be taller than I am , or as tall as my ceiling. However I am a bit curious, so I would try to find one.
Its actually just pothos. In theory if you keep a small one growing up wood and keep chopping and extending you could get big like this. But its easier to just buy a node from a huge kne in Florida try etsy
Nice 🌱
Thanks for visiting
No problem i love plants giant pothos. And monstera albo.
Simply beautiful and amazing ❤️
Man that is a big boy. What conditions are you growing it in? Artificial or sun light?
barrina grow lights
Very impressive!!
Thanks!
Honestly if you keep giving it a pile or log to grow up the leaves will get bigger and start to fenetrate. I've been working on a tiny 2" wet stick cutting I had that was probably only half a cm thick maby less. She is now 2ft tall and gone from small 5cm leaves to now pushing out 15cm leaves on a moss pole in just 6 months. I give the moss pole a good water every few days then once a week soak the moss pole with hydro nutrient so all the roots she's putting into the pole aswell as the soil is boosting her MASSIVLY. And mine was just a teeny free cutting from a normal pothos. When she reaches the top of the pole I'm going to snip the top off and then start again so each time she will keep getting bigger and should be pushing out leaves the size of yours hopefully within the next 18 to 24 months and is getting more and more golden variegation on her.
Awesome to hear, Ill get it on wood soon
Waiting to see your reaction when it starts to get splits hahah
Siiick!!!
Just wow
Hello. May I please ask exactly what species this particular pothos is? I have always wanted to add it to my collection but do not know where to go to obtain some. Do you know an places where a person could get a few starts at least of this species?
Etsy
What are you going to do when that thing is 20ft long and those leaves are the size of a mini cooper
Wow, I didn’t realize that they can get that huge.
Update on the giant pothos, update on the giant pothos, update on the giant pothos, update on the giant pothos, update on the giant pothos . Wish me luck!
lmaoo
Where are the Nodes on it?
How can you propagate more cuttings out of it??
basically everywhere a leaf is, at the base is the node so there are many on this plant
@@TechplantChannel wowwww!
Amzing man.. you doing such a kikass job
Carry On my friend!
Pothos that big scares me for some reason XD
What happened to the other node you cut from the original?
i killed it on accident
Question….. does large size of your cutting from a mature plant always indicate you will get large leaves immediately with correct growing conditions?
I had the second half that only put out smallish ones. IF you set it up right it should enlarge quickly tho
Any info on what causes fenestrations on these? I've got a much smaller golden pothos that's putting out holy leaves even though they're much smaller in size.
They need to be climbing something, proper fertilizing and lots of light! But I've only seen really big leaves with fenestration, even bigger than the ones in the video
I got myself a couple of big pothos "sticks"/logs but only the top cutting has been giving big leaves. The other ones are barely bigger than a 'normal' pothos. Am I doing something wrong? lol
I got myself 6 at one point and they all rotted :/
Awesome!!❤
Where can I find one of those moss poles?
I make them! I will offer them for sale eventually
Actually having them grow up a moss Pole does make the leaves big
yeah it helps tremendously
Can we get an update on the terraplanter?
Id love to get one too awwwhhh
Time lapse would be great here
I don't know why anyone finds this surprising or incredible. if you go to places like Thailand where this grows readily outside, it gets bigger than this. With the right conditions everything will get big, especially something as vigorous as epipremnum lol
Lots of people have never seen tropical places or even know its possible with pothos. But yeah this is tiny compared to what it can reach
Does giant pothos have defenestrations?
eventually it will
I don't think its a porthos. Looks much more like a philodendron to me. Being a philodendron would explain the large initial leaves which I wouldn't expect from a porthos. The leaf shape also doesn't look like porthos to me.
Its pothos. Once it matures it gets huge. The initial vine was like 30x thr size of a regular one. Lots of aroids get like this if you give them something to climb. This vine was cut from a 30 foot vine growing up a tree in florida
Its not even my plant and i cant wait for the day it has a leaf with phenistration (holes)
Hiw much light does that pothos get?
Barrina grow lights about 18inches above 15 hours a day
These guys are bomb prove
giant pothos is always bomb
😳😯👏👏👍👍
pretty cool right!
so, is that like, different species than the ones we grow at home, or can my photos theoretically be made to grow that large, and what would I need to do for that to happen?
I wanna know too!
How do I get this plant?
maybe etsy or friends in florida
1 yr too slow, mine grown 2 big leaves per month 😊
plot twist: he has really tiny hands >
Ship me one :(
thats my only one sadly
It’s so big that it doesn’t even look like a pothos.
I know right!
I'm fairly sure it isn't a porthos
Goodness ive seen a pathos this big 😂i would loveeeee to get one❤
Gotta get some friends in Florida
What happened to the 2nd node that you cut off?
