    The genetic differences between this "wild type" and the more common pothos would be super cool to analyze.

    Mate, that's insane! You definitely need to grow this up a moss pole set up as done by Sydney Plant Guy. Basically, he has a plant grow up a 90cm wire mesh pole with spag moss inside, once at the top he ads a 180cm stake and another 90cm pole and grows the plant to the top of that. Once it reaches 180cm, he chops it in half, and plants the top portion back into the soil and ads a 'blank' 90cm moss pole on top again to continue the growth. If the plant's rooted into the pole well before the chop, it shouldn't miss a beat and just keeps sizing up. This way you keep it growing larger and larger inside a space that only needs to be a bit over 180cm in height. He has videos explaining the method on his RUclips channel.

      This is what I'm currently doing. Started with a tiny wet stick from a small pothos and in just 6 months she's grown 2ft up the pole nearly 3 and gone from 5cm leaves to nearly 15cm leaves. In spring I will give the top part a chop and start again hoping to get her up to 20-25cm leaves next summer.

      Never cut more than 1/3 of the plant or it can easily die. I know others who’ve done it on video and then regretted it. The turgor drops too low for a large cutting to re root.

  • @sabbirs2423

    My regular one is becoming large, the leaves are now around 6 inches, and ridiculously golden due to the amount of light they get - bright direct sunlight next to the window, as well as a grow light on top. Initially they were green with a little variegation here and there. You need to also try that, as that's when they'll get more variegated.

    I've often wondered is what's called giant Hawaiian pothos really a variety or just Golden pothos grown outside in a tropical environment and allowed to grow out?

    • @TechplantChannel
      @TechplantChannel  Год назад

      Im not an expert but, in my opinion that is all it is. They just give it a name to make it sound exotic. if you do basic research on pothos "Epipremnum aureum " you will see its native to the solomon islands which is near Australia and it was introduced to hawaii and many other places. All it is is golden pothos. you can get the same stuff from a tree in florida. Mine is just jade pothos which is why its plain green. I joke can call it Giant Floridian Pothos just to make it sound special on instagram and to mock the hawaiian pothos crowd.

    • @bartseller8601
      @bartseller8601 8 месяцев назад

      Well I have personally grown both they basic households golden pathos and a couple of cuttings that I got off of Etsy that were labeled as Hawaiian pothos and I will tell you first hand growing the two there is a huge difference. And I'm talking about under the same growing environment inside. The growth characteristics are just totally different Not only the shape of the leaves but the petials, everything in general just so much larger and the aerial roots that start to form on the Hawaiian pothos compared to the regular pothos wow huge difference. Again I've grown both under the same environment.@@TechplantChannel

    How do you let your cuttings get used to a lower humidity after you get them out of a propagation box

    • @TechplantChannel
      @TechplantChannel  2 года назад +10

      i can try and make a video but i just rip em out and hope for the best what dies dies and what lives lives. Ive been really brutal with anthurium seedlings this way lately. Im hoping this brutalism allows me to breed plants that can handle a lot less humidity. But if I were to do it properly. I would crack the bin open, and as days go buy open it more and more

    I would love to get one of these, but as of right now I have 3 lemon trees standing at 5 feet tall that have almost out grown the house. Since I'm in zone 4 they would not survive our average winter temps of 19° nor the Date Palm (36") I started from seed. None of this justifies building a climate controlled green house. But it's always great to see other who give these plants a home. I was recently told to stop propagating what I can't keep. They're right.

    That's some awesome growth! When you first got it, I was definitely worried about it not being able to get big since they are tropical, but you have definitely done well with it! I would be worried about using wood though since it can rot away from all the moisture you're eventually going to want to put on the pole when it starts going more vertical. I can't wait to see what you put it on either way to see it really take off!

    Honestly if you keep giving it a pile or log to grow up the leaves will get bigger and start to fenetrate. I've been working on a tiny 2" wet stick cutting I had that was probably only half a cm thick maby less. She is now 2ft tall and gone from small 5cm leaves to now pushing out 15cm leaves on a moss pole in just 6 months. I give the moss pole a good water every few days then once a week soak the moss pole with hydro nutrient so all the roots she's putting into the pole aswell as the soil is boosting her MASSIVLY. And mine was just a teeny free cutting from a normal pothos. When she reaches the top of the pole I'm going to snip the top off and then start again so each time she will keep getting bigger and should be pushing out leaves the size of yours hopefully within the next 18 to 24 months and is getting more and more golden variegation on her.
