In 1823, a group of prominent citizens formed the Bunker Hill Monument Association to construct a more permanent and significant monument to commemorate the famous battle. The existing monument was finally completed in 1842 and dedicated on June 17, 1843, in a major national ceremony.

How incredibly moving... From last week in Boston. "Mark O'Connor Camp Field Trip to Bunker Hill"
The music "Bunker Hill" is from the O'Connor Method Orchestra Book II.

It was an awesome day in the studio. I can't believe these musicians - Neil Miner on quintessential jazz accompaniment doublebass, just violin and bass on two of the tunes for Method Book IV (It Don't Mean a Thing and San Antonio Rose). It just does not get better than this gentleman. He plays with Jane Monheit and has for years. The best bass to accompany a jazz song that I have heard. Bill Schimmel on the fantastic "Brasil" accordion for Tico-Tico - first played with him with the Wynton Marsalis Jazz Band... he is so rich with the musical language it lures you right to South America. I just can't believe it! I was able to play my best today. I just can't tell you how much I am surrounded with beauty these days. Beautiful musicians and music, friends, teachers and students - this incredible American music for violin that is being taught now to tens of thousands of my first three books already! They are not going to believe Book IV. I have 8 pieces down on tape, and about... 14 to go! 22 pieces for Book IV.
Tomorrow I get four more down and then a break for a few days. Tomorrow the awesome Matt Munisteri of my Hot Swing ensemble is going to bring his L-5 Gibson and accompany me on Beaumont Rag and Minor Swing. Then Dan Nimmer, the extraordinary pianist with Wynton Marsalis' groups will take care of Take Five and I'll Fly Away with me. I mean, what does one say... except I will rest for the remaining hours of today and get ready.
From Book II - the mesmerizing and hauntingly beautiful Bunker Hill.

“Not only does O'Connor feel that we can create a cohesive and comprehensive American style of classical music, he would also like to see the development of an American school of string playing.”

"I was stuffing folders for the camp this morning (4th) and got this huge urge to turn on the radio. There's a national talk show that airs here called "On Point" that I listen to a lot from 10 AM to noon on weekdays. They were just finishing up a story on Bunker Hill and it segued into the Book II orchestra arrangement. Somebody editing the show must have found it out there on RUclips. "Hey John we're on the radio!" The music was gorgeous and it totally captured the tone of the story. What a thrill. Thanks Mark."

Mark O'Connor Camp Field Trip to Bunker Hill
One of the most emotional moments in string camp memory. The little girl at the end running towards the camera embodies the freedom of our spirit and the wonder and curiosity that children are blessed with!

Have an wonderful holiday today...
My memory from this day was that it was pouring down rain on the bus ride to Bunker Hill... and just as we go there, it had slowed down enough so we could get out and walk around/eat lunch. I then remember a young student saying "we should play "Beautiful Skies."" We did... all of us... and then... the sun came out... in time for us to play Bunker Hill... BTW.. the cadenza Mark played was amazing (it was at least 10 minutes long but only the tail end of it is heard on this vid).
I love your post, you have such great music to share. Most of us just complain when we see stuff we don't like. You took the time, to give serious thought as to how it could be made better and produced a low cost way for others to learn from.
I'll just be happy if I can learn and apply a small portion! Thanks Mark
i was in this video! im at the upper left side blonde hair and bangs!!
Thank you very much,Mark!!! My admiration and respect!!!
