Argh! The frustration as it cut out before that gorgeous riff into Romeo and Juliet! Those two together are what it might sound like approaching the gates of Heaven. We can but dream.
I think it's a bouzouki, a larger sibling of the mandolin and mandola. I normally think of it as a traditional Greek instrument, but Donal Lunny is credited with playing the bouzouki on several of the songs in Mark Knopfler's Golden Heart ("Darling Pretty", "A Night in Summer Long Ago", "Done With Bonaparte") and I'm pretty sure that's him.
Wayne Cook, I am watching A Night in London again right now and I owe you a correction and an apology. That is not Donal Lunny, that's Richard Bennett, who played different kinds of guitar on different tracks of Golden Heart. The instrument he is playing still looks like a bouzouki or mandola to me, but it may actually be a tiple. (See here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiple) Richard Bennett is credited as playing the tiple on " Je Suis Désolé".
@@MarvaGrossman Donal Lunny appears in this show but is easily noticeable as he plays a left handed bouzouki with a flat back as opposed to the traditional rounded back of the Greek instrument. Richard Bennett appears to be playing the same sort of version which is also 8 string.
Glad I breath the same air on this planet where Mark Knopfler breath at the same time, that's an honor.
50 years ago you would not have been able to convince anyone that a famous guitarist/ rock musician could compose something like this .
A master piece from mark knopfler.
Love this version, also the longer version of 6 minutes.

Andrew Caddell you have the full song?
Amazing how the keyboard synth version is better than the real instruments. Sometimes it works that way.
This reminds me of Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni. Anyone?

Ahmet hakan gitar işine başlamış. Saygılar Mark abime
For my simply the best that's where tina Turner got the idea for her song when Mark gave her private dancer

Mark. k. 😚❤🙅🙅🙏
se parece a la marcha del principe de dinamarca ( trump voluntari Dmayor)
What is that eight string instrument???? It sounds like a cross between a banjo and a fado guitar!

Thank you for your imformed and kind reply, Marva! I remember reading about a bouzouki recently, but no pictures were included...
