@@CristinAF - You have just turned me into a budding Procreate artist. Especially now that I understand how to use those layers. I just couldn’t get my head round it. Don’t take this video down ever!!! 👍🙏🏼
Good explanation. What I did with the last example was to fill the heart layer and make the inserted photo a clipping mask. That left on the part of the image I wanted inside the heart.
Let’s say I have a picture of a wall with windows. I would like to make it appear that there is something outside the windows. What steps would I take using the layers? I appreciate you and your time.
I know I’m late but this was soooo helpful! Thank you thank you so much for this! I’m new to procreate and drawing in general but I’m so excited to learn.
This video was super helpful, I'm both a visual and doing learner so being able to see you use the real life visuals was super helpful, thank you so much
I have the 5 generation iPad mini. When I add a second layer to do the drag and drop fill on second layer. It fill the whole screen. All lines are connected. I got the procreate a few years ago, but only could use it for awhile before my old iPad was out of date. The procreate is up to date. I watch another guy. But you seem to explain it better.
Your fill threshold is too high. When you drop the color, don't lift your stylus and drag the stylus to the left until it's only filling the area you want.
Great lesson and using the plastic really helped. The project I’m working on involves merging two pieces…..a photo of a painted background and a photo of a pencil drawing to put on top. Can I do that?
I'm still confused. But what is the difference? It looks like you can do all the same things with the different layer options just in different ways. So how do you no which one to choose? For example when is it best to use each one? Clipping mask is a fancy eraser. Mask is like a cookie cutter and the other one is a cookie cutter too but on the same layer so you can't change it after? Is that right 😅
Thank you for watching and commenting! You are 100% correct! What I love about Procreate is that there are more than one way to do things and achieve the results you want. There is no right or wrong way for any of these if it’s meeting your needs of want you want to achieve. Procreate didn’t always have these features either so those of us who have been using it for years, know steps for getting the same result without the features. So, choose whichever one you’re most comfortable or confident with and play around with the features as you go. ❤
hello! I’m using the app but it still doesn’t seem to be working ): I have a low threshold, I made my photo a reference and I made sure my layers are correct. Is it because I’m doing it on a photo? It works fine on a blank background, but not when I try to edit photos. Thanks!
Hi! Does referencing only work with calligraphy-style brushes? I’m using a sketching pencil and every time I try to fill in my line, it fills up my whole space instead. Help 😭
You want to make sure the areas are closed up (not gaps in the lines) and try to adjust your threshold. To do that after you color drop, don’t pick your pencil up and slide it to the left. You may need to do that a couple times to determine how much space to fill.
@@CristinAF that was a bit confusing (only because I’m new to procreate and not because you didn’t explain it well) but it worked! Thank you so muchhhh!!!

@@CristinAF - You have just turned me into a budding Procreate artist. Especially now that I understand how to use those layers. I just couldn’t get my head round it. Don’t take this video down ever!!! 👍🙏🏼
@@rosequartz1208 you are so kind to say this ☺️ I’m truly happy it was helpful! Enjoy procreate!
How is your color in layers white? I would like to be able to see what is in layer. Yours is so clear. Thank you & Love your teaching!
Thanks! Are you meaning the background layer or the actual interface?
Good explanation. What I did with the last example was to fill the heart layer and make the inserted photo a clipping mask. That left on the part of the image I wanted inside the heart.
Let’s say I have a picture of a wall with windows. I would like to make it appear that there is something outside the windows. What steps would I take using the layers? I appreciate you and your time.
You can just draw the window backgrounds in a separate layer than the wall
Thank you so much for this tutorial! As someone who is a newbie to digital illustration, this helps me understand a lot!
Omg! Thank you so much! I’m such a visual learner that this finally made sense🤗
Omg this helped me SOOO much! Thank you for explaining it well & to the point 👏🏼
Thanks so much for watching and leaving such a lovely comment!
Thanks for it explaining it so well. It really all makes a lot of sense now
I know I’m late but this was soooo helpful! Thank you thank you so much for this! I’m new to procreate and drawing in general but I’m so excited to learn.
Thank you so much for the feedback! I’m happy to know it’s helpful!
This video was super helpful, I'm both a visual and doing learner so being able to see you use the real life visuals was super helpful, thank you so much
What kind of pencil you where doing
It is an Apple Pencil 2nd generation
Yes!! If your pencil drawing has a white background, tap the N in the layer and set the color blend to Multiply
@@CristinAF how do I import the photos to a layer?
@@jimrapp3550 go to wrench, Add, Import photo. It will add it to a new later above the current layer
@@CristinAF is there an undo feature. I keep putting lines or stuff on a layer and don’t know how to undo it
@@jimrapp3550 tap two fingers on the screen to undo
amazing video just got my first Ipad and now I can enjoy using procreate! you are AMAZING
This has helped me so much. Appreciate you sharing this.
Thanks for watching! I’m glad it was helpful!
I THINK THIS WILL BE MY GO-TO AS I NEED REMINDING ALONG THE WAY.
AWESOME!
Yaaaaaaay!! 🥰 Thanks so much for watching!
hello! I’m using the app but it still doesn’t seem to be working ): I have a low threshold, I made my photo a reference and I made sure my layers are correct. Is it because I’m doing it on a photo? It works fine on a blank background, but not when I try to edit photos. Thanks!
Which part are you trying to do?
Thankyou so much for making this video. Its really helpful. Thankyou again
This is a really good explained video!!
Yes, I don't have to pinch to merge anymore with my ogre fingers! That alone earned a sub! Cheers from co Galway Ireland.
This is a perfect explanation! much appreciated !
Im happy it helped! Thanks for watching! 🥰
Thank you for this, soooo helpful seeing the visuals!
Thank you so much! My mom just got me procreate yesterday and this helped so much!
So for example I’ve drawn a cartoon and I decide to put a orange circle behind it. I can’t get both to show up. Both layers seem to hide each other
Is one of them an imported image?
